My family and I went here for a Thanksgiving Day(Canadian) long weekend trip and found this resto listed on Yelp so we went. So glad we found this place because of excellent service and amazing food. Free wifi is available here. We ordered 2 platters Three Amigos ($17.75) and Cinco De Mayo ($21.99) which was perfect for 4 of us. Server recommended this two items off the menu prior to ordering and she was helpful. When the food arrived it was fresh and delicious. Three Amigos were full of flavours as chicken and pork were cookedin different sauces. Cinco De Mayo came with chicken, beef, shrimps along with rice and refried beans. I forgot to say free tortilla chips were amazing as well. I can't pick our family favourite since everything was good. We were very full from big portion of food. Okay, listen up. I am from Arizona, and I have had some good Mexican food before. THIS is GOOOOOODDD Mexican food. This place was so delicious that I went back the next week for lunch! They have a great lunch menu with huge portions, and you get complimentary chips with pico! When I went around 11 both times, we had no wait. Not a bad place but not really a Mexican restaurant that I would consider a "go to" place for me. Like so many Mexican places the chips and salsa started out on a strong note which was good. For the main course I got a very large tostada which wasn't too bad. Where I'm from tostadas are usually a side dish and not the main course which is something I'm still getting used to but all in all it wasn't bad but something that I wouldn't fall over backwards for. The service was good the whole time... all staff very helpful and friendly so no complaints there at all. read more

There's not much happening along this stretch of Highway 99 to make you think there's a great meal lurking in one of these modest buildings. It's an endless medley of tilt-up retail and small office buildings, and there are some blocks that seem forgotten by time. There are bright spots, though, and this is without a doubt one of them. There's some parking, and there's a high roof over the dining room that makes you try to remember how long ago this place was something else, 'cause with that roof it must have been a Denny's or something for a while. You walk in and they've opened things up and lightened the colors as much as they can, though. Tons of hard plastic booths in fixed lines, and then a couple spots with some tables. If you reserved way ahead, maybe they could take a large party? The menu is extensive--it's one of those trifold, multi-colored, plastic-coated deals that usually signals you'll be eating many things that got to the kitchen two weeks ago (or more) in big bags. Potrillos isn't exactly the opposite of that; it's not like they cook every single dish entirely from scratch. But they make tons of things in-house and they avoid shortcuts, which is rare when the prices are this good. Hey, they're saving money on the menus and the dining room, and putting that back into the food. So if you're mainly out for the food (I am), then dig in. They probably have 20 different appetizers alone, many of which are so interesting that might decide to skip entrees and eat all small plates. That would easily work. There are dozens of entrees, along with some soups and salads. A couple entrees are over $20, the rest are under. I had one of the big combos, and I could barely finish half of it (and I am not a small man). It had chile colorado, verde, and relleno, all of which were perfectly cooked, and the colorado in particular was deeply seasoned and hugely flavorful. We also tried the spicy lime prawns, which are served as a ceviche--but there's a prawn ceviche on the menu, so don't mix them up. Huge beautiful flavors. They offer something called a cheese crisp, which is essentially a grilled cheese tortilla, swimming in dairy fat and super tasty. Common in the southwest, rare up here. Great as a bit mixed with other stuff on the table. The bean dip, guacamole, salsa, and pico all tasted fresh and house-made (or close to it), and the chips came out warm, with great flavor. Tasted fresh. We ordered (and ate) way too much. The service was on point throughout, jumping on the spot over and over from beginning to end. They were laughing at how stoked we were about all the stuff on the menu, and chatted with us about all the recipes and their whole approach. This place must get slammed many a night; catching them on a dark and dreary winter night was probably smart. I can't wait to turn more people onto the food here. read more

FANtastic! I love their pork chile verde! Deluxe asada burrito also a big hit. Portions are generous and flavors are exceptional. Chips are crisp and warm. Salsa and pico de gallo are really, really tasty. Just the right amount of heat. And the service... perfection! Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. Just moved here from the SF Bay Area, and I am so pleasantly surprised that the Mexican food here reminds me of the food from amazing taquerias back home. I had the chimichanga lunch special with shredded beef, which was superb. Also, LOVE the giant soda glasses/steins. The service was great, and my family thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Our family has been gong here for many years now. We have tried other Mexican restaurants but you cannot compare with Los Potrillos authentic taste and friendly service. We recently ordered for delivery on Superbowl Sunday and had exceptional service. We usually dine in but during the pandemic right now this seemed a safer option. Mariano was very helpful in helping put together our order and went out of his way to deliver our food when he was down employees. This place looks like a hole in the wall and most of the time, those places have the best food. I love this place. The portions are HUGE. They are quick to refill your chips and water. One of the better Mexican restaurants I had in a while. The service was great and the waitress was welcoming about our first time there. For the fajita Decent amount of meat / shrimp and veggies on each plate. It was cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend! The rice/bean plate that came with was actually not too oily. I don't remember what the other dishes was called but I recalled enjoyed this one burrito that had a green verde sauce on it and had pork inside. Also one dish had a pepper inside too. All were super good, and the flavors were there. The only thing I would complain about is the chips they gave. They were kinda stale and the salsa that came with it was not that great. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. I am Mexican American and get very judgy when it comes to three things : rice. Beans, and salsa. They ace each part. The rice had excellent flavor, perfectly balanced and good even the next day. Same with the beans The pico does not get better. This is the best pico de gallo around. They do have things on the menu for those who prefer a more Americanized taste, but the authentic flavor for those who want it. I ordered a deluxe vegetarian burrito and a margarita and was surprised that the burrito was as long as my forearm and as big as my calf muscle. Today was the last day of the season for crab fishing. And once again, we were "fishing failures" - So..."Los Potrillos" was Plan B for dinner. LOL! I ordered the Pollo Fundido - It was chicken stuffed in a tortilla, with cream cheese & American cheese melted on the top. I really liked this dish, it isn't your usual Mexican type dish - it pleasantly reminded me of something my mother makes called "Chicken Pillows" - I also generally like Spanish Rice, yet I only had a few bites of their rice, it was a little bland for my liking. My dish came with refried beans, and I secretly wished I had the option for black beans (I like those better). Our waitress was nice and attentive. The chips and salsa were pleasant, and the heat factor was spot on. My husband ordered two Daquiries and he said they were delicious. My kids shared the kid's chicken quesadilla - and they really liked it, and the rice. My husband ordered a chalupa (ever since he ordered that one at Las Tres Marias, in Monroe) - he's got a new staple. So, how come three stars? My husband said his food was "okay". I thought the rice was bland. I like black beans. And my dish didn't remind me of the usual Mexican flair. (perhaps I shouldn't have ordered that particular dish).
