My wife said this is the best Mexican food she's had since we moved from California to Washington 1 year ago!

I always have such a hard time choosing as there are 2 Mexican restaurants in this area very close to each other. I admit I often go back and forth between the two, but what stands out about this one is the friendly service and the salsa bar. Personally I could live on chips and a good salsa bar alone, but the food I get is always pretty good as well. It seems like salsa bars are mostly a thing of the past these days so do check this out while you can. Plenty of parking out front, but they are closed Mondays. We often come for lunch and the service is pretty fast. They understand our need to order, eat, pay and be back at the office before too much time has passed. They are always willing to accommodate special requests and often have food specials and a regular lunch menu. I've brought a handful of people here and everyone has been happy with their meals. I usually opt for a veggie burrito or fajitas. I'm sure I'll be back again sometime soon. read more

Stopped by this place in desperate need of food after a hike, and this was a super pleasant discovery! The restaurant is a bit old and chippy but gives a super homey vibe, and the people who worked there were so friendly and sweet as well. The food feels pretty authentic and is a pretty good size for the price. Also got free tortilla chips and unlimited dips at the sauce bar. read more

I put in a "to go" order, went and picked it up, returned home and opened the package, was pleasantly surprised to find a bag of fresh made tortilla chips in there. And the food for the price was worth the time and effort, or so I thought. Unfortunately the order was wrong and the ground beef is horrendously bad. The relleno was good, very good. The taquitos were good, not very good but good. The taco and the enchilada were bad. I ordered them with shredded beef and found that they both had ground beef when I got home with my order, it was not worth turning around, driving back and waiting another 20 minutes watching other people eat while I waited for the order to be done correctly. I will try the business one more time because the people were very nice and I imagine if the order had of been correct that the meal would have been pleasant instead of irritating and not worth what i paid. If it happens again I will never even consider them again. read more

We decided to check this place out while we were in town and I have to tell you, these guys really need to get their act together. The service was ridiculously slow and although many apologies were made, the slow service was not justified. When someone tells you they are refilling your soda, then they walk by you 4-5 times over the next 5 minutes without taking or bringing you a new glass, it's clear they aren't managing their area well. Other than us, there was a large party of about 12, but there were two employees running the restaurant and if two people can't serve 14, I'm concerned. It was our first time and not only did we wait for water, we waited for chips and when the chips came with bean dip, we waited for salsa, and it never came. Then we noticed people heading to a small salsa bar. They could and should have pointed that out. Truth be told, we did notice it on our entry, but I assumed, they had a house salsa, that they would put on the table, then the salsa bar would be a variety of alternatives based on your taste. That said, I guess all salsa is at the bar and served in tiny cups far too small to even dip into. I had the Carne Asada. I will say, this was the most tender carne asada ever, you could damn near cut it with your fork. It was a short on flavor, but some heavy shakes of salt brought it back to life. A photo online showed the steak with green onion. Traditionally it can come with green onion, but more than not, it comes with a fried pepper. I also must have misread the menu, because I was shocked when there was no guacamole. This is the first time I've ever had Carne Asada without guacamole. The portion of the steak was decent, but they skimped on the rice and beans. It also came with no green onion, just sliced white onion, which did taste great. I asked for a friend pepper and our server said no problem. We went our entire meal without having our drinks filled and their was no excuse for that, and the fried pepper that I requested, I kid you not was brought with the check. The meal was over, it must have been 15 if not 20 minutes and it wasn't even hot, so I assume it was friend and then sat for 15 minutes while we were being ignored. I don't know how long this place has been here, but it doesn't have a lot of reviews and even though reviews are high, I'll say this. The food did have 5 star potential, but portions were small, nothing was served hot and items didn't have anywhere near the level of seasoning one would expect from an ethnic restaurant. We'd love to return for a better experience, but there is no reasonable explanation for why service was so bad. If two people can't handle 3 tables, they shouldn't be serving. I asked Google how many tables does a server cover, and the answer was 5-6 for casual and 3-4 for fine. This was not fine dining, so what was the malfunction here? Passing through Everett, maybe 3-4 times a year. Stopping here, maybe once, so the likelihood is it will be a while before we return. Hopefully this place considers my feedback, because not all reviews are positive and watered down Mexican is a good way to see your popularity drop and since we were here at dinner and only a dozen other people were dining, that's not a good sign. Azteca has to be the worst Mexican food without the name Bell in their title, and I'd expect at least 2 dozen people there at dinner time. Bigger portions, better service and reasonable prices is how word of mouth promotes your place. I encourage you to consider that. read more

My wife and I have been here a handful of times, all of them 5/5. Good location, easy parking, great food, friendly staff. In or out: We typically eat in, this time we ordered take out and the food was just as good. Food: I ordered the "three enchiladas", one of each; beef, cheese and chicken. It was quality food and each was filled well. Also ordered: Pollo con queso, wife rates 5/5 but wishes there was a vegetable with it. Staff: Exceptional, we've had the same waitress every time. Amazing! Hands down best Mexican! Only place we go for Mexican. Seriously, at least once a week. The food is Baja style, everything is so fresh and unique! Their salsa bar is amazing, the green and red barracha is to die for. Literally the best pico de gallo and guacamole! I love the grilled chicken tostada, so fresh and amazing flavor. Very impressed with this small local spot, about 12 tables but not over crowded. I've passed by many times and never noticed it with a bigger mex restaurant a block away. The Carne Asada special was some of the best I have had. So much flavor and not over cooked. They have a fresh salsa bar and bean dip for the chips. Tasty margaritas that are not over priced. Food was delicious. I order steak tacos with rice and beans. The tacos have the right amount of flavor and texture. And the sides were just delightful, especially the beans with a topping of cheese. Oh and the salsa bar was amazing, I love the fact about my family doesn't have to order a million salsas separately.Every chip my family had a chip with the salsa they would say the salsa tasted great with the chip. The service was excellent. My family had our waitress be a lovely lady who was always nice and friendly. And every time my sister had her glass of lemonade emptied, the waitress would always come back so she could take the glass to refill it. Wonderful food and service every time we go! The appetizers are sized well for sharing as are the entrees. Personally I haven't drank at the bar much but my friends and family don't have complaints. Recently I was enjoying dinner when the restaurant experienced a power outage, as well as 9 other blocks in the surrounding area. This could've been disastrous but the staff was well prepared and handled the situation with grace. Support this wonderful community and eat good grub! read more

Hands down the best Carne Asada entree we've had. I hate when the meat is cooked out, and nearly crisp like jerky. I had requested a medium cook, and it was so delicious. Super friendly staff, delicious salsa bar and quick food service (but not too quick!). Our group of 5 really enjoyed our food (quesidillas, chicken fajitas, beef enchiladas and carne asada), waters and beverages refilled regularly. Wasn't really sure what to expect due to the location, but we were pleasantly surprised. I found out they are a sister restaurant of Papas over in Lake Steven's - which we love that place too! First the good: Had the Pork Quesadilla which is always what I order to compare Mexican restaurants. Pork was tender & very flavorful. First time I've had it fried...which I really liked. I could pick it up like a 'sandwich'. Chips were fresh & warm. The not so good: Chips served with bland refried beans. Salsa was so-so. Avocado was probably the smallest dollop I've had with Quesadillas. The really bad: Bathroom smells AWFUL. But the kicker was I saw the sign for 'Taco Tuesday' which lured me in. Lots of places have Taco Tuesdays...usually a discounted price. However....it's only served in the bar which doesn't open until 2pm!! Since there are so many rave reviews I might come back for the Carne Asada. Drink menu looks inviting. Will definitely pee before going! read more

And they have a salsa bar where you can get your own variety of really good flavors of salsa. We ordered a grande burrito to share between us. It was so good and definitely big! Mom and pop Mexican. They aim to please. Hot fast fresh food, very tasty. Not my favorite Mexican joint but it is very good. Service was excellent! These guys have some very different menu options than the standard family Mexican restaurant. Their carne asada is delicious and I tried their La burritos and they were wonderful. I know Everett has a plethora of Mexican restaurants but this place is ahead of the curve. I continue to hit all of them and will come back here for more! read more

Very unassuming hole in the wall with friendly staff and great food. California burrito is really good and a crowd favorite for us, but the Mexico city tacos are some of the best tacos I've had at a sit down style Mexican restaurant, a taco trio of chicken al pastor, and steak on homemade tortillas. For me, mexican food, and really most Latin cuisine, is pork over everything else but that chicken taco was the best one, really flavorful and cooked perfect. Whatever dish you get opt for the pinto beans instead of the refried. They are served mixed with Pico de Gallo and are killer. Really fresh tasting and not a lot of places serve it like that. We met some friends here for Taco Tuesday. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Visa and MasterCard are accepted forms of payment. Indoors is dated and was essentially empty the whole time we dined here. Odd for a Mexican restaurant. Happy Hour is offered Monday-Friday from 2pm-5pm. When I tried to order off of the Happy Hour menu, I was told that I couldn't since it was Taco Tuesday. If that is the case, the Happy Hour menu needs to be updated to reflect that Tuesday's are excluded. Irritating. We sat in the bar area, the only area that had patrons. There was a distinct language barrier with our server. The first basket of chips were stale. The second basket not much better. The chips were served with a bowl of runny beans. There is a "salsa bar" in the dining area that offers four different salsa options. Bowls, rather than condiment cups should be stocked in the salsa bar to avoid having to fill several cups and/or get up repeatedly. I wasn't a fan of any salsa's that were offered. My wife ordered a couple pints of Pacífico for $4.50. I ordered a couple pints of Dos Equis for $4. Neither one of our beers were very cold. We each ordered a couple crunchy beef tacos for $1 each. The tacos were scantily filled with ground beef, an abundance of shredded lettuce and shredded cheese. So very disappointing. I also tried a beef soft taco for $1.50 which wasn't much better than the crunchy taco. Senor California will not be on my radar the next time I am craving Taco Tuesday or Mexican food in general. This is easily the best Mexican restaurant in Everett and north Snohomish County. The food is wonderful. Better taste, and the presentation is 100% better than the one that was rated best by the local paper. If you want pedestrian food, go to that place, if you want excellent quality come here instead.
