I have this affinity for small family Mexican Restaurants. Los Jimadores fits that bill. Firstly, the waitress we had was very friendly and delightful. When I asked her for opinion for the Birria tacos vs. the Sonoran Tacos, she said I picked to the two favorite things not the menu and she couldn't decide. But I am getting ahead of myself. Firstly, the chips and salsa. They really set the mood for the meal, although not having them is something I can live with if the meal is extraordinary. Los Jimadores has chips and salsa - and they add a kicker. Mexican slaw. A vinegar based slaw with a spicy kick. This was one of the better ones I had. The salsa was good and chunky, but we agreed it was a little sweet. The chips are the flaky crispy kind. We also ordered the house margarita. I was prepared to be disappointed because their drink menu was filled with those sugary 'tropical' drinks that were more popular 15 years ago. Their tequila menu is a bit lacking. But the house margarita was good, not too sweet and had that familiar feeling. I decided on the Sonoran Tacos. They had strip steak, a roasted Anaheim Pepper and a grilled Mexican cheese. They also came with a very good, very spicy salsa. The roasted peppers and the salsa made this dish. My wife had the carnitas, because she has been on a carnitas kick as of late. They were moist and crispy on the outside with a good green chili on top. If I had to find fault, it would the salsa with the chips and the tequila selection. The salsa with the Sonoran Tacos was fabulous - but I get that there is probably a cost difference. And the menu is a bit long. But if I am in the area, I will be back. And I will order the Birria Tacos. They looked really good being brought to a table next to ours. read more

Friends took us to Los Jimadores this past Sunday and wasn't disappointed. Some people might call this place a hole in the wall, but if it is the food is still very good. If you're looking for something fancy this isn't it. A good meal is what you get here. The shrimp tacos were really good on homemade flour tortillas. My dining companions all took their meals home since it was so much food on the plate. The meals were packed with flavor. The margaritas were really good and if you have two make sure you have a driver that's not drinking. My final comment is regarding the service. Pamela (Pam) was our waitress. The second I walked in the door I knew this was the place to be! The restaurant was very busy for being so early in the evening. We were quickly greeted by a very friendly hostess, and we were seated promptly. Our waitress was very attentive, and she always had a smile on her face. Now, for the food part... The menu reads like a novel; it has absolutely everything imaginable. Fresh tortilla chips, salsa, and a Mexican slaw were placed on the table. We ordered house margaritas which were on point, and they were huge! The main courses were beyond plentiful and exploded with flavor. To start my fiancé and I wanted a beer but what we wanted they were out. The food was not appetizing at all, the rice looked like it was reheated, beans were dry and unsalted. The meat (shredded beef) was nothing but fat. I don't know what the hype is but this place is disgusting. I have been a customer of Los Jimadores for a few years and absolutely love the food and service. The limited store availability and dine in was a bummer due to COVID...but I was so happy to see them open for dine-in service a couple of weeks ago. My first visit went well...tables sectioned off for social distancing and all employees wearing masks. Also, all customers seemed to be following mask regulations by having some kind of face covering on until they were seated as well as when going to and from the bathroom. But, the second time I visited today...the rules seemed to have faded. Several groups/families were packed in the small entryway into the dining room without any masks. Parents taking their children to the restroom were without masks walking very close to the tables along the wall. A few people came to pick up take out orders...once again waiting at the door without masks. This is all next to the clearly placed "Must Wear A Mask" signage. The servers didn't seem to mind or feel the need to enforce the rules. I understand that enforcing mask rules can lead to conflict and potential issues...but we need to be following and enforcing these mandates to keep the community safe. It is a lesson learned for me that although I love dining out and enjoy the atmosphere of Los Jimadores...I might have to wait until there is a vaccine or the servers start taking the mandate seriously/refuse service to those that cannot wear a mask when entering. This isn't a knock against the service or quality of the food...I just think it is unsafe to dine in at this restaurant. Especially those that might be particularly at risk for COVID 19. read more

Craving some good Mexican food, we decided to try this as it had decent reviews. The service was great but the food was just meh. The beans were flavorless and a little cold. The salsa was predominantly cilantro flavored but that's it. I ordered the Carne a la tampiqueña and it was thoroughly underwhelming. The steak was basically a chewy flavorless thinly sliced cheap cut of meat. The rice was decent and the chicken flauta was tasty. The cheese enchilada was completely bland and undercooked. This restaurant was an awful Italian place back when I moved to Brighton in 2003. I think the bad taste left in my mouth from the Italian restaurant kept me from trying El Jimador when it moved into the space a few years later. The store has since evolved into Los Jimadores. The food: The chips are always served warm with cold salsa and another cabbage/jalepeno salsa that's pretty good. I've had the fajitas and Mexican Paella which are both very good, althought he fajitas are a bit light on the meat portion. The guacamole is served fresh. On the weekends, Los Jimadores makes fresh-made corn tortillas - they're delicious! I've not tried the desserts but they have a good selection at very reasonable prices. The service: The service is friendly, but a little slow sometimes. The price: Competive to lower than other Mexican places in the area. My verdict: Los Jimadores has taken the lead as the best sit-down Mexican restaurant in Brighton. read more

I met a friend here for lunch yesterday. The restaurant has a very large interior with typical Mexican restaurant decor. I was greeted and seated promptly. Chips, salsa and a relish were brought out right away. When my friend arrived, we each ordered a mojito. They were very bitter, even with the sugar around the rim. My friend ended up sending hers back and getting a margarita. I ordered the chicken molè off of the lunch menu ($7.50) with rice and beans. She ordered shrimp tacos off of the dinner menu ($15). The food was very good. I ended up asking for a box, because the portions were substantial. The waitress delivered our ticket. We sat for at least 20 minutes, trying to attract her attention after that, but she just passed by us. Even though it was approaching 2 pm, the restaurant had become very busy and she and the host seemed to be the only employees there. Finally, I got her to take our bill and card and we were able to leave. Good food. There is a parking lot, but it is small. Plenty of street parking. Good lunch specials. My monitors and entree set me back $15, exactly. Ordering from the main menu is slightly more expensive. Full bar. Good for groups. read more

This is great Mexican food in Brighton! Good prices on pretty authentic food. The seafood (mariscos) here are great. The salsas are incredible! Mole is decent for America. This is a well run traditional Mexican restaurant. On arrival you pass a lady making fresh tortillas for each patron in the restaurant. The restaurant has the feel of a joyous family run operation. Each table gets fresh tortilla chips, fresh tortillas, salsa, and two small bowls of amazing vegetable/pepper based option is to use with chips. The food service is amazingly fast and the portions are very large. You can tell that this is a well respected favorite location for the Latino population in the area.
