To keep the peace I took it and got out of the way as others were waiting to be hung up. If they took one out for someone to sample they may want to consider doing a sample plate and setting it out. I also lowered the star as their price is higher than expected. Buyer should be aware of this prior to coming in, however, don't let that stop you from dropping by. We stopped to see what kind of birthday cakes they had. This cute little store had lots of various items for sale, among them were neat aprons with sayings on them. Our wedding cake was so disappointing. We met with the baker and saw her work and tasted many different things. After showing her the design we were told it would be no problem. When I saw my cake and cupcakes at the venue I almost cried I was so embarrassed that guests had already seen them. The entire wedding theme was an eclipse and nobody could make out the terrible design on the cake or cupcakes. It really looked like she forgot our event and then asked someone else to quickly throw the design onto the cake. Edges were not sharp, icing was not smooth, it just looked like a home baked cake. They currently occupy 5,000 square feet in multiple storefronts on Colfax Avenue, but started in a tiny shop on South Gaylord in 2000, moved to Old South Pearl Street, and finally moved to one small storefront on Colfax where they have gradually gobbled up the adjacent spaces over the years. They clearly have a track record. Their custom cakes are gorgeous and are available for weddings, birthdays, and all occasions. Really wanted to like this place but found it coming up short in quite a few ways! :( Being in a bit of a rush (but doing all necessary research beforehand) I stopped in Mulberries to pick up a jumbo cupcake for a friend's birthday. Jumbo cupcakes are advertised as "Ready Now" on their website for 2.50$. Unfortunately, upon asking, jumbo cupcakes are "made to order only." I felt a little disheartened considering the photo of their website attached shows that they're ready whenever you've got time to stop in a pick one up. While this usually wouldn't be a huge issue for me, the young kids at the counter (maybe the owner's children? ) did not apologize nor try to compensate for the false advertising and my frustration. I walked around the store sort of hoping someone a little older with authority may ask to help but they did not. Since I could not get the jumbo cupcake, I then asked for a pretty frosted chocolate one with a pink flower. This would be the birthday cupcake! The children haphazardly put the cupcake in a box with scotch tape. When I asked " is this secure to drive with?"they assured me it should be fine. It was not and the tiny cupcake was flipped in it's box ruining the frosting. While the cupcakes tasted fine, they were nothing special and my experience here will not invite me to return. read more

My first time here at Mulberries on Saturday afternoon, February 28th 2009 and the first time attending the Yelp Cupcake Tour Round # 3. Mulberries was our last stop for the tour. Mulberries was a tiny shop. I purchased 6 mini cupcakes for our personal consumption. Hubs rated the cupcakes to be between 2.5 to 3 stars, same goes to me. The staff at Mulberries were OK. At least they did explain, the variety of cupcakes that were on display and available for purchase. These were what I did purchased: * 2 Lemon cupcakes * 2 Poppy seeds cupcakes * 1 Strawberry cupckes * 1 Red Velvet The cupcakes looks "cute to eat".. But oh well only time will tell how tasty the cupcake once you eat and taste it Hmmm, perhaps one day, if I could ever find a reason to order a cake from Mulberries, I hope the ratings would differ. I came here because my regular cake shop could not fulfill my order. I read great things about this shop and figured I could not go wrong. The cake was ready when they said and pickup was easy. The design I wanted was not exact, but I expected as much. Once I got the cake and cut into it, I could feel how dry it was.
