Their food is very reasonably priced - Chicken tinga taco ($9 for 3 tacos) + Elote ($3 for 3 short mexican corn cobbs) + Burrito al pastor with sauteed peppers extra ($9.50) cost only $26 after 15% tip. My favorite was the al pastor burrito which was succulent and delicious with the red and green salsa. Corn was pretty addictive with that sweet Oxaca cheese as well. Chicken tinga was healthy-tasting and by that I mean it was decent but not amazing (haha). I liked how their online ordering menu had an option for me to skip napkins and plastic utensils and had a comment section where I could ask them to put the 2 salsas on the side. Was doing a yelping search in my area for something new to try. Stumbled upon this place. Their prices for Mexican food are not the cheapest but in fort lee, you can't really beat it. Walked here on Sunday and their tables were pretty much full. They got two outdoor seating and very limited seats inside. Small joint. I checked out their menu and photos and yelp and seems like their tacos are too Americanized in my opinion. Growing up in LA, I've had my fair share of good tacos and I'm very particular with the size of the corn tortilla and the onions and cilantro. I passed on their tacos and got a torta instead. Opted in for their special of the day which was the torta campechana. It had brisket and chorizo inside. Costs like $13. Also got an order of their empanada $4 and a horchata $3, way over priced. Took me like 10 min to walk back home and was excited to eat my lunch. My honest opinion, their hortchata doesn't tastes good. I was quite disappointed. Their empanadas was quite good, but for four bucks a pop was way over priced. Ok now comes down to my torta. When I opened it up, the bottom of my bread was a little soggy. So I guess it's best to eat it their when they freshly make it. It was quite good honestly. My first time trying a torta so I got nothing else to compare it to. The whole thing was kind of heavy so I was pretty full afterwards. Heard tons of great things about Los Compadres so on Ciñco I figured I'd check it out for myself. Smaller place but also have outside seating. Staff is very attentive and the food comes out really quickly. Great menu selection. Mix and match tacos. Veggie options. BYOB. Specials menu was great too. Here's what I got: Chips and guacamole- guac was a small serving but fresh. Could have been heavier on the lime but that's maybe just me. Chips were great, really crunchy. Tortilla soup- really nice with generous amount of avocado, tortilla strips (really held up) not spicy at all. Elote- always have a place in my heart. Very good 3 pieces of sweet corn very tasty w all the fixins Carnitas/shrimp/pastore tacos (gringo style)- Love that you can mix and match. Soft corn tortilla. My preference since they're easier to eat. But you can do hard shell too. El Pastore was def the show stopper. (My fiancé got 3 fish tacos)- he must have loved them Bc he inhaled them! And just when we thought we couldn't fit anymore, we got an order of churros (custard filled)- would have been PERFECT if they were warmed up. Come two to an order cut in half. Outside was crispy inside custard very nice. They also have tea or coffee. Flan, bread pudding, horchata, I mean there's a bunch of great things on the menu and I'm looking forward to trying them. So many flavors and very tasty. You have to try it to understand it. My boyfriend also made me order the corn "Elote Loko". I didn't understand why he wanted me to try corn, but now I understand. They came with verde and habanero salsa - the habanero (daker colored one) was extremely hot!! My husband really enjoyed that level of spice. Beans were alright but the corn salsa was awesome both visually and in flavor; it really mixed well the natural sweetness of corn with the little zing of the spices. Rice was fluffy, the pickled onions gave a nice tartness and the avocado sauce was creamy and mellow. Service - 4/5. Food came out quick and with a smile. Value - 4/5. Finally got the chance to try this place out the other night! There's only street parking so good luck. Fortunately, we were lucky and found a spot easily. So there's def good foot traffic and sounded like they were mainly regulars. One got a sample of chicken, another walked in and the cashier knew exactly what he wanted. As a newbie, kinda felt left out.lol. I ordered the tempeh bowl with the cilantro lime rice. And my mom got a burrito under their "specials menu." Forgot the name but it's the wet burrito with brisket. You get to choose the type of rice and beans. Both were SUPER delicious and filling!!! I was satisfied from beginning until end. Everything was packed with flavor and they didn't skimp out on the amount of meat they put in the burrito either. Tempeh was marinated well and was packed with flavor. Not only a great option for veggie lovers but also meat lovers as well! I liked how the tempeh is grilled to order. I like how they have vegetarian options here and sounds like they also have vegan options too! *two thumbs up* There are 3 small tables (with one side being a booth against the wall and then chairs on the other end). I got blackened fish tacos while a colleague followed my lead and grabbed a tortilla soup and a lunch special of Striped Bass. The fish was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The tortilla soup was a small meal of its own. In conjunction, the other specials (coconut shrimp bowl, Lengua tacos, and more) all looked like dishes I will have another day. Very fulfilling lunch after a hike in the Palisades! What better reward for a workout than tacos? This place puts so much flavor in every bite you take. Each ingredient is wonderfully seasoned and is fresh. I had the cubano tortas with a horchata drink. My friend had the Rojas taco and fish taco with a lemon cucumber drink. They gave us the drinks first and I was pleased with how good the drinks were. Horchata can be under seasoned sometimes... My tortas was excellent. What makes this torta so good is the chorizo they put in it. Chorizos I've had in the past weren't spicy enough and lacked flavor. This chorizo was definitely the best I've had. My friend barely talked to me so she was pleasantly surprised how good the tacos were. The pickles and ingredients put in our food were amazingly good by itself. I order from here a couple of times a month and like their food. The big problem comes from service and consistency. Two times now I've picked up an order that's missing an item. Both times it was the $14 shrimp tacos. I let it go the first time. Second time I checked the receipt which had it listed and made sure I paid for it. I called and politely asked for a refund of just those tacos. I was rudely told that he put the box in the bag and he can't do anything because it's my word against his. He's the owner. I go there multiple times a month. This is horrific customer service and just plain old robbery. He told me next time I should go through the bag when I pick it up. My new favorite taco spot in northern NJ! They offer tacos, burritos, tortas, and bowls and I love all of them. Everything is made to order and they use really fresh ingredients. My go-tos are the raja taco and the tinga bowl. The staff is some of the friendliest people. The space is small with four really small tables but there's a sandwich shop next door where there's plenty of seating and you are allowed to eat in there. Decided to check out this new taco spot cause when the taco cravings get the best of you, you go get your tacos! I tried the carne asada and raja tacos and I have to say, I preferred the raja taco... personally I love poblano peppers so my judgement might be a bit biased but I thought flavoring was great and it had avocado slices so that in itself was a winner for me. Service was also great! The only thing holding me back from going everyday would be the pricing of these tacos. Roughly ~$5-6 for a taco is too pricey for my fat tacobelly. However they do have taco tuesdays 4 for $12 or was it 3 for $12...? Either way save yourself a few bucks and come try some tacos then!
