This place is a GEM, waiting for you to discover…read more After 10 days and nights of incredible meals on the Viking Venus. We decided that we wanted to have a nice lunch off of the ship. My wife and I both love Halibut and were looking to try some fresh caught, while our cruise ship was docked in Seward. We strolled up town a couple of blocks from the Alaskan Sea-life Center and saw that Gold Rush Bistro had some on their lunch menu and decided to stop in. Surprisingly there was no wait at 12:30 (lunch time) their smiling staff were happy to see us. We were greeted, seated and able to order very quickly. That being said, the place started to fill up pretty fast. As we waited, the lady that was sitting next to us when we sat down, had a god awful amount of perfume on, after a few minutes of choking, we politely as to be moved to another table and were happily accommodated, no hassle at all. I've had Halibut many times in the past, but none have been as delicious as the Garlic Halibut that they serve here. One word, OUTSTANDING!!! The decor inside was beautiful, with a homey wood vibe (see pics). Looking out the front window there was an amazing view of some of the surrounding Mountains. If you find yourself in Seward and are a little tired of the food on your cruise or just happen to be in town for another reason, I would highly recommend Gold Rush Bistro.

Unsurprisingly, though, when I checked back two years after I'd made a list of places I wanted to try on that trip, not everything on my original list was still there! Anyway, one of the places yelp told me had closed was called "Dockside Dogs", a little stall by the docks selling really inventive, high quality hot dogs out of a tent. So I made other plans - but the day of, those plans fell through (I'm really glad I got to try Firebrand's bbq the day previous - so fantastic I was extra looking forward to trying their breakfast burritos... until their smoker happened to need repairs the second day out of two we were in Seward and they closed unexpected!) So I figured I'd just walk downtown and see if there was anything I missed, and sure enough, as it turns out, Wild Spoon had *just* opened (when I was there, there were no yelp reviews yet!) - and "Dockside Dogs" was on their menu? Yep - the reason I mentioned Dockside Dogs specifically is: they got a proper cart, expanded their menu beyond only dogs, changed their name and moved downtown, but if you were looking for Dockside Dogs, here they are! I wasn't *super* hungry that day, so I just got one Seattle dog, for $10. Their dogs aren't enormous, so if you were particularly hungry, you'd probably want 2 - still, for Seward, that's quite reasonable, for dogs that, just to be clear, the couple other people in line with me were all raving about, and I totally see why. I'm also happy to say that, even though there were a couple people in front of me, and it *is* all being done out of a trailer, I had a sausage in my hand in just a few minutes. Anyway, it was a pretty fantastic sausage - meaty, juicy, smoky, plenty of perfectly-cooked onions - then, for $2 extra (the "basic" sausage is $8), a bunch of cream cheese. Was the cream cheese worth $2? Honestly, kinda yeah, cream cheese is a perfect sausage topping, and it went perfectly with the sausage and onions, it's a pretty perfect combo, and an extremely satisfying sandwich! I *would* want to try their other dogs if I were ever back in Seward, though, too. (I want to try the chowder, too! Too bad Seward is a jillion miles from California!) Only a couple minor complaints, mainly just due to the fact that they're a tiny operation right now - as far as cold drinks, they only have Izzes and bottled water, and they have literally one seat at one table. When I was there last month with no advance planning, that meant I took their one seat and drank an Izze, but if I were ever back in Seward, I'd come back here for sure, then get a drink somewhere else nearby, take them to a nearby park, Seward is covered in gorgeous parks to picnic a stone's throw away in all directions. (You can tell I miss being on vacation, probably.)

The servers were really nice and excellent at their jobs! But the best part was the food wow! The seafood chowder was amazing had big chunks of sockeye salmon. The gulf captains platter was very delicious soo fresh had broiled salmon which was juicy and very delicious, Halibut chunks that were fried like fish and chips were cooked crispy and the fish was still juicy. And fried prawns that were crispy and juicy inside bery tasty it came with 2 home made sauces a cocktail sauce that tastes like fresh horseradish was used in it and a standard tarter sauce. It came with two sides we tried baked potato loaded with cheese and bacon and rice with butter both were cooked fo perfection. The cornbread was ok compared to rest of food. I'd come back right here for lunch the next time I'm in Seward. The burger was well smashed, well seasoned, and well cooked. It had those little crispy cheese folds on the edges I love. Excuse the picture, we got a double and pulled one patty off to feed our 1.5 year old. It wasn't until the remaining half was pretty much gone I decided to write this review. It was pretty close to the picture the business has on its page, a full size smash burger! Both kids loved the food and Mom and Dad loved the bites they shared. Would recommend this place!

This is a bullet pointed list of the issues we had. * We had some miscommunication on the splitting of the checks, which is okay, but I believe she should have double checked, especially because we repeatedly made it clear that the rest of us were singles. This became an issue because she told us at the end that they can only split the check two ways. * All of the food was okay, except my friend's (K) burger being pink inside and the chowder leaving a bad taste in my other friend's (B) mouth afterward. * K ordered a plain burger with cheese and received a burger with everything on it, including mayo which she cannot stand. She mentioned this to our waitress who then said "can you just take the lettuce and stuff off?" We said no and got a new burger, because that was not what K ordered. * My Greek salad was also an issue. I have a nut allergy so I checked with her about the ingredients of the Greek Vinaigrette that they bring with it. She said it had an onion base but didn't know the rest so she asked the kitchen, who she says wouldn't give her an answer on ingredients. * She offered me ranch but I told her I don't like ranch so I'll just go without any dressing, I didn't mind that much. She then offered ranch yet again, which was weird, and also a no from me. * She ended up getting me some olive oil and vinegar, which was perfect. The olive oil did not taste like olive oil though so I double checked that and she said it was, it just tasted more like vegetable oil to me and B. * I overheard her talking to a table behind me (what looked to be a child and their grandma) about them not being able to find the bathroom. She said, "oh you couldn't find it? It's like right there. On your left." She was very rude about it which was surprising to me. I felt that the attitude was unwarranted. * We had the discussion about splitting checks and then waited a while to pay. We also noticed that the checks were split incorrectly even though she had probably quadruple checked who the 3 person group was herself. * It took a while so we just went to the front desk area, where after waiting for a long time we were directed to another desk area. The lady that was standing there, she was blonde and a bit older than our waitress (presumably the manager) then left and made herself busy despite staying there the whole time before,so we had to wait even longer. * J, who had the og 3 person group, went to pay with tap, which our waitress was aware of beforehand. She then informs us that tap doesn't work for checks over $100, and his was $184. B paid her check with her Cashapp card and tried to pay J's too because he couldn't. It took the money out of her Cashapp account but didn't go through. We went back to the first desk, and tried again. K was even getting ready to transfer money in case B's didn't work either. Then, she tells us that apparently she can split the payment into two that are under $100... which would have been wonderful to know before we were running around trying to figure out how to pay our bill. Also, would have been a convenient way to keep it as two checks but still split up payments between the singles. * I also overheard our waitress speaking rudely to her coworker (a girl with black hair and a ponytail who was working hostess) who had asked her a question. She said, "Just press it, it's the same," in, again, a rude tone. * B overheard the manager (? The blonde lady) being rude to our waitress. We would have been more understanding if it was an end of shift slump, but when we sat and asked if the chowder was available she said she had to check because she had just gotten there. We were all very disappointed with this service, especially considering the prices, and will not be going back.

Booked Ray's Waterfront for 5 pm and was surprised to still see people waiting 30 to 40 minutes…read more Yesterday the wait at 6 pm was 1 hour 15 minutes, so we skipped it and went to Tidewater Taphouse instead. That food was mediocre, but at least we did not wait forever. Today it was pouring in Seward, and the one genuinely lovely part of the experience was the window seat. The rainy harbor view was beautiful, and we even saw baby otters while waiting for the food. Service was inconsistent from the start. We were never given table bread, even though every table around us got some, so not sure what happened there. We started with oysters, and they were just okay. Definitely not memorable, and nowhere close to Taylor Shellfish oysters on Chuckanut Drive. For mains, we ordered the halibut fish and chips and the halibut Andaman. Both were disappointing. The halibut was dry and chewy, which was surprising given how expensive it was. I love fish and usually enjoy sea bass and cod, but this did not work for me at all. The Andaman description mentioned fish with rice and vegetables, but it literally came with rice and basically two pieces of broccoli. For the price, that felt almost insulting. Two mains alone were close to $100. Dessert completely finished off whatever goodwill I still had. We ordered ice cream with hot fudge, but it looked like it had been sitting out too long before being served. The fudge was not even warm, and the ice cream was already half melted. Overall, Ray's Waterfront gets points for the harbor view and atmosphere, especially on a cold rainy July Sunday in Seward. But the food was underwhelming, the service felt uneven, and the pricing did not match the quality. Beautiful setting, disappointing meal.
