    Salmon chowder
    Nicole R.

Excellent spot for lunch in Seward with views of the water from the patio! After kayaking in the rain, my friends and I really wanted some soup and our guide recommended this spot for lunch. The staff here were very friendly and told us they had the best chowder. I got a bowl and I would agree. It was salmon chowder with clams, potatoes, and veggies and bread on the side. It was hearty, creamy, and exactly what I wanted. It was packed when we got here but soon after ordering a table opened up.

We stopped in for a bite to eat and did we hit the jackpot! The homemade smoked salmon chowder was piping hot, loaded with smoked salmon, potatoes and veggies. Warmed our bellies on this cool day. Also ordered the Chubby Mermaid (tuna, Granny Smith apple, avocado and sprouts). Also delicious! Cool spot with delicious food.

This was my favorite restaurant in all of my AK visit (Seward, Anchorage, and Denali). The smoked salmon was amazing as were many of their other breakfast items. I would have come back to try their lunch options the next day if I had more time! AMAZING do not skip this place.

Wonderful place! Lovely staff offering up great food! Beautiful views from the dining area. Open for breakfast and lunch. We had the old faithful and the yogurt bowl. Both were amazing! The reindeer sausage is so good! We were here two days and went back the second day.

Stopped by for lunch. Wonderful pastries, sandwiches and coffee, along the waterfront.

They offer coffee, sandwiches, pastries, beer and wine.

Wow! What a find? So glad we decided to come here from lunch. Their paninis and sandwiches are very tasty. The staff is super nice and the food came out quick!

Had a delicious meal and what a beautiful little shop on Ressurection Bay! The Oakie is my fave sandwich, I've had it a couple of times, but I did pick up. This time I got to sit with my Dad and enjoy a cup of chowder, too! Some of the best chowder I've ever had. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and kind, timely, and doing every task without us even asking. I enjoyed it and will be back!!

This was really great! Hopped off the train and checked out the sealife center next door. Stopped by for lunch and service was nice and quick, we just chilled outside with the gorgeous view until we could eat! They gave me my latte in a cute mug and it came out before the food did. The panini was nice and crispy, and they even subbed out sundried tomatoes for regular at my request. Boy's sandwich was... piled with lettuce. He ended up with a side salad alongside the 'wich. 10/10 just for that view.

We loved Zudys! Located at the Water front park in Seward, it's housed in an historic railway station. Cute eaterie with a good assortment of sandwiches, soups, and salads. Sandwiches are definitely shareable! We didn't try the desserts but they had a good choice of cheesecakes and cakes. Order at the counter and they bring you the food at your table. For the amount of business they do, the food came out very quickly. They also have outdoor seating.

Zudy's Cafe is a delightful find in a hideaway town at the top of Resurrection Bay, off of the Gulf of Alaska. The pleasant and prompt service delivered appetizing fare in a rustic, down home type of cafe' that is very welcoming to outsiders and locals alike. Decorated with art for sale by local artists this gem is an unintentional gallery that also serves food. My party enjoyed; a Belgian Waffle, the Breakfast Platter featuring; Reindeer Sausages, eggs, sourdough bread and potatoes, and The Salmon and Eggs featuring; smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, on sourdough toast with sprouts and a chili sauce. All food was prepared quickly and expertly, served hot and bursting with flavor. Price-wise, Zudy's is on par with other Alaskan eateries, which is to say pricey compared to the lower 48. Be prepared to pay $20.00+ PP for breakfast meals. On a brisk Alaskan morning in Seward, AK, Zudy's Cafe receives my highest and hearty recommendation.

My daughter spotted a small seafood restaurant tucked into a corner, so we decided to give it a try. I completely forgot to take photos of the food, but I ordered the halibut--and honestly, it was probably the best halibut I've ever had. Everything we tried was delicious. I noticed a lot of people coming in specifically for the seafood chowder, so I'm guessing that must be amazing too. The employees were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and they even had outdoor seating.

We were hungry and we could choose all the well-known tourist eateries and pay big bucks, or we could go into Alaska Seafood Grill for a more quiet, family-friendly experience. Walking in at 12:40 PM, we saw that we needed to order at the counter and they would bring the food to our table. There were some open tables, so we did not have to wait to be seated. We reviewed the items on the chalkboard menu above the ordering counter. I don't eat seafood, but luckily they offered a BBQ Bacon Burger with fries. My wife ordered seafood chowder. We also ordered a side of onion rings and bought a brownie for later. I found the burger and fries to be very filling and tasty. My wife enjoyed her chowder. We both liked the onion rings, which were NOT greasy at all. The brownie was soft, chocolatey, and VERY good, just the way we like it. The inside of the restaurant is definitely not what you would call a high-end environment. But, it was clean, quiet, functional, bright, and, most importantly, had clean tables and chairs on which to sit. The staff were all very friendly and answered all our questions. There was a man, perhaps he was the manager?, who walked, dressed, and spoke like he would be more at home in Boston instead of Seward. This is NOT a complaint about him, just an observation. We spoke with him and he answered all our questions in a friendly manner. I don't know that we will ever visit Seward again, but if we do we would definitely return to Alaska Seafood Grill for lunch.

We were seated promptly and brought water and menus. The food is very high quality. My son had the Fire starter burger and I had the Alaskan Sami ( reindeer on Ciabatta roll). Topped off with their jalapeño coleslaw and side of fries. We split the crumble cake dessert ( this was so good it would be worth the drive down simply for it) My son uses a walker and requires ADA accommodations seven though this would normally receive a five star score from me, I score it a four because they have a chain and lock across the entry ramp requiring him to struggle with ducking under it.

There were 3 waitresses, no bartender, and the 3 younger ones that walked around who were supposed to be pouring waters, busing tables, etc. When the waitresses seemingly got tired of tables, they walked back and forth behind the bar without doing anything. It took us nearly an hour to receive our first round of drinks (only one was a mixed cocktail that required effort). Water came about 15 minutes after seating. At the peak, there were about 9 tables in action and three of them left. We had empty drinks nearly the entire time while the waitresses stood in the hall. For the food, the halibut fish and chips were really good and crispy. The halibut bites were awesome with a perfect touch of lemon and herbs. The cod fish and chips were really greasy. The reindeer meatloaf was dry but had a great flavor, so just add ketchup...

That food was mediocre, but at least we did not wait forever. Today it was pouring in Seward, and the one genuinely lovely part of the experience was the window seat. The rainy harbor view was beautiful, and we even saw baby otters while waiting for the food. Service was inconsistent from the start. We were never given table bread, even though every table around us got some, so not sure what happened there. We started with oysters, and they were just okay. Definitely not memorable, and nowhere close to Taylor Shellfish oysters on Chuckanut Drive. For mains, we ordered the halibut fish and chips and the halibut Andaman. Both were disappointing. The halibut was dry and chewy, which was surprising given how expensive it was. I love fish and usually enjoy sea bass and cod, but this did not work for me at all. The Andaman description mentioned fish with rice and vegetables, but it literally came with rice and basically two pieces of broccoli. For the price, that felt almost insulting. Two mains alone were close to $100. Dessert completely finished off whatever goodwill I still had. We ordered ice cream with hot fudge, but it looked like it had been sitting out too long before being served. The fudge was not even warm, and the ice cream was already half melted. Overall, Ray's Waterfront gets points for the harbor view and atmosphere, especially on a cold rainy July Sunday in Seward. But the food was underwhelming, the service felt uneven, and the pricing did not match the quality. Beautiful setting, disappointing meal.
