I accompanied my mother for a Christmas dinner her work was hosting here! It's a small restaurant but they have quite an appetizing selection! I've never had Peruvian food before, but having Los Balcones as my first introduction to Peruvian food was amazing! I had the Lomo Saltdo and the whole dish was amazing! The meat was juicy and combined well with the rice and veggies. My mom got the arroz con mariscos and it was also super yummy! I'll also mention that the ceviche was a great appetizer as well. It really just melts in your mouth! I also truly loved the vibe of the restaurant. The decor and dim lighting was really fun to be around. The service was also great! Here now for an early dinner as the hours list a 5 pm open time, but the space is locked up and doesn't seem anywhere near ready to open. This was the second visit. First visit was much better. This restaurant is a pop up, as I'm sure you're aware by the Yelp name. The service was amazing. The menu is influenced by Italy and Peru. They even have a secret bar in the back with late night tacos and delicious margaritas - I'm not kidding about the margaritas! SO good. So for the food, we ordered the salmon crudo, the lamb and the sea bass. The lamb was very tasty and presented in a fun way with bread, lettuce and sauce. You could make lettuce wraps or regular wraps! The salmon crudo melts in your mouth and it was probably the best thing. I wish we could eat an unlimited amount of this! Overall great food! A few years ago, I went to a pop up featuring Ricardo Zarate. Been a fan ever since. So, when a friend suggested we try his pop up at Los Balcones (Colobri), she didn't have to twist my arm very hard. First off - make reservations. Not a big place and the outdoor seating doesn't appear to be in use. There is a bar but not a lot of seating there either. Saw a handful of people try to walk in but left because no seating available and I guess they either didn't want to wait or they were turned away. It's Hollywood. Good luck with parking. There's a metered lot behind the restaurant but the lot is small. Otherwise, other nearby lots and there's always street parking. Check the meters and signs for restrictions. Service was pretty good. The team tended to my friend and I - including the hostess as well as someone from behind the bar. I don't remember their names however, they all worked together seamlessly. As for the food and drinks - see pics. Love the drinks. The food I liked a lot. For my taste, I would have liked a little more seasoning but don't get me wrong - the food wasn't bland. I guess another way to say it is that I wished each bite had more of a punch as opposed to jabs. Again, food was good but I wasn't blown away. Having said that - I'd go back with others to share in the experience with them. But I wouldn't go back just because. One last thing I want to add - service charge is automatically included in the bill. There's fine print on the menu stating that. I feel that should be more prominent so people aren't blindsided when the see the bill. read more

The drinks: espresso martini, pineapple margarita w/tequila and the special of the night which was the passion fruit drink were great! Over-priced, overhyped, way too much for way too little. Not the spot for true Peruvian enthusiasts. Many staple dishes cannot be found at the WeHo pop up. One app (see pic) with four pieces of fish, one beer, one glass of wine = $55 + tip. Fish was bland IMO. Beer was meh. I was brought a rosé when I ordered a glass of white. Service was nice but too many people standing around waiting for something to do and kinda felt like they were pushing us to order more when we just wanted a quick bite to hold us over. Love the decor and layout tho. That they bailed. Visually appealing and welcoming, although even there it felt just a little soulless. I was so excited but disappointed. I love a trendy, spendy meal like the next foodie, but I expect to get a wow-ing experience for that. Or at min something satisfying and service to die for. I think many West LA spots put way too much importance on fashion over function, and when you can find so many amazing grubs nearby, it's hard to justify a place to be seen over satisfying fare. read more

For me, the Colibri popup exemplifies the lower standard you can expect from post-pandemic dining. Margins are so tight nowadays, it doesn't matter that the chef was once the darling of the L.A. food scene. Major tradeoffs now seem unavoidable. Let me start with my only positive and important rave about Colibri: The food is quite good. It's not going to open your eyes or change your mind about what Peruvian cuisine can achieve. The chef broke that ground years ago with Mo Chica. But it is undeniably fresh, tasty, and competently prepared. What really weighs down the entire experience is just how amateur the front of the house is. Mistake after mistake after mistake. To boot, the kitchen completely screwed up the timing and sequence of plates. Once you make peace with the fact that this is never going to be a great restaurant, no matter how many kinks they work out, you can spend the rest of your meal letting go of all the well-deserved criticism and enjoy what time you have left. Colibri begs the question of what defines a popup: If it's a vehicle for aspiring new talent, I can live with a bumpy ride. If it's a way for experienced talent to introduce something new, the flaws are hard to forgive. p.s. Be aware that a pre-tax service fee will be added to your check. Ours was $30. This Peruvian restaurant is still great!! Legit Peruvian food, the pisco sours were delicious, and I was happy to see one of my favorite dishes back in the menu: the ají amarillo. The lúcuma ice cream is always hard to come by and they have it. Such a treat! I was born and raised Peruvian, I am always on the hunt for good Peruvian food. GEEZ I CAN'T believe I missed to take pictures lol but man was this place *chef's kiss* DELICIOUS! I love Peruvian food but this was my first time here and our server was amazing. I told him I wanted to try something new with drinks and he said he recommended I tried the chicha sour which is like their liquor that comes from grapes and I was not disappointed so I began to listen to him on his next recommendations. For appetizers I said I wanted something new and different and he sure heard that and said we try the beef heart (I KNOW I KNOW) but it was way better than it sounded and great source of iron lol. I went with my usually tallarines verse with shrimp and I would rate it a 7/10 I think for me it was just the pasta's texture. The environment with very nice, very relaxing and good for a first time date as well. Only thing I did not like was the restroom :( toilet didn't flush. Hi guys, I hate to say it but was really excited to try out this restaurant and was a bit in a rush to get to a premiere but showed up at 5pm. Restaurant was open with lights in back and back door open behind gate but we knocked the front door and called up until 5:25 and no one answered the door or the phone call so we couldn't enjoy the experience. We'd really love to come back but not sure if your online timing is updated. There was also another couple who showed around 5:15 and went next door to Zarape because they weren't open. I came here on a Tuesday night just as the restaurant was seemingly opening. Their credit card machine was down, and a guy (bartender?) was yelling at the cooks quite aggressively. Big yikes. Definitely not the best start to our experience. So why the 5 stars? the experience that followed. Our server politely told us that they were only taking cash and apologized for the inconvenience. I asked if the cooks could start an order while my table went to an ATM to procure cash, which he gleefully agreed to. We ordered two Lomo Saltado orders, a huancaina, and a ceviche. Upon returning, we waited a few minutes and our appetizers arrived. Papa a la Huancaina was delicious! Flavorful, tender, and gone as soon as it arrived. I am not normally a ceviche person, but this ceviche was incredible! Fish was only a bit fishy, and the accompanying corn elevated the dish significantly. These were both so good they were gone before I could snap photos of them. The same mistake did not occur with my Lomo, but that is not a knock on it in the slightest. Beef was SUPER flavorful and VERY tender, some of the most tender lomo saltado I've had in any restaurant in the area. Keeping the potatoes separate proved to be genius, as they remained crispy and were the perfect textural counterpart to the beef and rice. To top off the dinner, we ordered a flan, which was the finishing touch on an incredible dinner. Special shoutout to our server whose name has unfortunately been lost to time, but if I see him when I return I will certainly give him a shout, as he was AMAZING. SO many things to say. TLDR; food was incredible, but our server "Noah B" truly made the experience what it was. We (real Peruvians, yes, from Peru lol) tried the ceviche mixto, the beet saltado and the lomo saltado. I cannot explain to you how mind blown we were by the beet saltado. It tasted like beef, not beet??? I can't explain it. They were all delicious but the beet was just... shocking. Lomo was so tender and flavorful too! Big lomo critics and it passed our test. Churro balls were yummy but small (pause), big in flavor but maybe not big enough to share. Overpriced drinks? Maybe. Worth it? Definitely. Our server Noah, whom we should really refer to as a personal tour guide to flavor-town, gave the most amazing service ever. He convinced us to try the Hummingbird cocktail, his favorite drink, and now we get it. We too are now believers in the Bird. Exquisite. We aren't even big drinkers, but after his dazzling run down of the cocktail menu we could NOT resist. We went from planning to order 0-1 drink to 5 LOL. No regrets at all. The worst service I have had in 40 years of living in Los Ángeles. As an avid foodie who has been to almost 500 restaurants in all of the United States. The reason I am writing this is because they force a 20% tip and take advantage of that to give you poor service. When I asked for more water they brought me tap water. I don't recommend anyone eat here unless you want over priced Peruvian food and a stomache ache. If held at gun point I would recommend the lomo saltado. read more

During dinner, my stomach wasn't agreeing with the food and I ended up going to the bathroom twice before leaving the restaurant. After dinner, I found out that my 3 other friends also ended up feeling sick that night. Although there were only 4 of us, the bill included a mandatory 20% gratuity fee, which we were not informed of, so we unknowingly added more tip above that amount. We were the only ones in the restaurant for a good hour, but the service was still mediocre and slow, definitely NOT worth 20%. Plus, the bottom of the check had suggested tip amounts which included the 20% service charge in its calculation. I tried to contact the owner/manager several times but never received a response...GREEDY! Will NEVER come back!! read more
