Every detail of this spot, from the carefully curated menu to the warm lighting at each table to the door being held open for us on our way out as they thanked us for coming, every detail is considered, intentional, and adds up to a beautiful night of dining you don't want to end. I'm pretty sure we got the best table in the house, tucked away in the corner by a window facing Hollywood boulevard. The seating felt both intimate and festive. Our server was attentive and gave us great recommendations. For appetizers, we tried the cheese bread, the pulpo (octopus), and some of the empanadas. Everything was so so good and I would easily get it all again. I can easily recommend both the spinach and cheese, and chicken empanadas, as we tried both of those. Though I'll be back to try the rest of the fillings. For mains, we all loved our dishes. The mahi-mahi (light and flavorful). The gnocchi (rich and savory). The salmon (hearty and delicious). The vegetable skillet (grilled to perfection). I was the one who got the mahi-mahi and will be getting it again. I don't usually like rice, but the rice with the mahi-mahi was good enough to eat on its own. Super flavorful and pillowy. But for me, the star of the show was the desserts. At many elevated dining restaurants, I find the desserts are an afterthought, but Ambue has a sizable dessert menu and everything looked so good, we opted to get four. They were truly some of the best desserts I've ever had. Gorgeous presentation and a joy to eat, I'm still thinking about them. The dulce de leche crepes are a must, the flan (which comes with a thick caramel and a cream to eat it with) is a must, the passion fruit mousse (tart and light) is a must, the brigaderos (rich chocolate truffles) are a must. I'm planning on coming back just for dessert and drinks. What's great about this spot is you could totally come in for a full nice meal with apps drinks a main and dessert, or you could stop in and have a couple of empanadas, or a dessert on its own. What a fantastic experience dining at Ambue, a hidden Brazilian-Argentinian delight nestled in East Hollywood. The decor is intimate and romantic, with pools of lights at each table as well as the bar. It is a case of "come for the cuisine and be enamored by the environment." Speaking of food, holy moly was our meal incredible! Even something as simple ad the Pão De Queijo (Golden Cheese Bread) was sublime and surprising. The bread had just enough fluffiness so the cheese didn't feel heavy, and the spicy sweet sauce was tantalizing. It's addicting, actually. I only wish there was more than 4 per order, especially at that price. More please! Next up was the Gnocchi con Estofado, the soft-chewy house-made potato gnocchi topped with flavor-packed slow-braised beef stew. It remind me a bit of ragu. More importantly, the Gnocchi was perfect and neither too soft or too hard. It's a tricky balancing act and I can't remember eating a better gnocchi! Finally, the big surprise of the night was Peras Al Malbec, the Malbec-poached pear slowly simmered in Argentine red wine with warm spices sprinkled and served with natural vanilla ice cream. From the moment we stepped inside, we got a very warm welcome from Emiliano who immediately went to grab Renato, one of the owners, when he learned we are from Brazil. My husband had the carpaccio and said that is one of the best he has had, and he has had a lot of it so I trust his word. I had the Chicken Pampa that was oh soooo good... moist flavorful chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes, like in real potato as it should be, not that crap you buy in any supermarket. They have rotating specials, and the first time I had an ahi tuna appetizer, delicious! The second time I concentrated on the appetizers, empanadas, burrata and prosciutto, fried calamari and Dubai chocolate cake with pistachio cream. Real talk: 4.38 review - but this place has momentum. This joint has been open a week or so. It caught my attention driving past in the early evening because the elegant touches to the atmosphere inside stands out in the neighborhood. The food is better than good. Flavors feel confident and considered. There is real pride and identity here, and it comes through in the details and the absurdly handsome waiter (save some for the rest of us bro). The beef empanadas (recommended by the Argentine Adonis) were exceptional: flaky crust, flavorful filling, and balance - your "not-anything-spicy" great aunt will still like them. The chimichurri was bright with the right garlic levels - and it had something I couldn't identify...chervil is my best guess. Subtle. Good. ... there were also three or four pieces of random greens and half of a cherry tomato as a garnish, but they had been lightly dressed and were delicious and I like that kind of thing because I'm a gentleman. The salgados were presented without a lot of glory on a small baking tray - but each filling was as good as the last, and the sweet, savory sauce served with them was excellent (I kept it to experiment with). I also had the Ambue Salad with chorizo added. The chorizo had a terrific grilled char to add to the paprika depth, the pickled red onions were subtle but flavorful, and the dressing was exactly right. Excellent dish. I'm picky about salt levels (I like too much of it) and the seasoning across the meal was very good. The flan was impressive too. Not gimmicky, just well made, with real control and execution. Portions were excellent. Two appetizers, a salad, and dessert felt substantial without being heavy, and the meal felt fair for the money. Haven't felt that way about a restaurant meal in a while. Jose, the owner, said hello and seems a very kind fella, which matched the feeling of the place: warm, proud, and authentic. The only limitation right now is beverages. At the moment it's just water and soda, but they've only been open a week. Beer and wine are in process, and it sounds like coffee service may be coming soon as well. We've visited a good number of Brazilian/Argentinian Restaurants in the Greater LA Area, and have generally found every one of them by opening Yelp and searching nearby for "Brazilian Restaurants". Ambue Restaurant showed up in one of these searches when we had just finished a day at Universal Studios and were looking for a place to have dinner. At this time, the place had 30+ perfect '5' Yelp Reviews so our expectations were high. We lucked out by finding street parking right in front, but it wasn't an easy thing to accomplish on a weeknight at 6 pm. So, parking can be a challenge. We were seated and attended to with "carinho" (kindness) throughout the evening, and even had the opportunity to speak with the owners in person, just like the website for Ambue indicates could very well happen during one's visit. We could see that the owners, a married couple, are passionately pursuing the dream of running their own restaurant, and work hard to provide a friendly dining experience with a lounge setting atmosphere. The plate we decided to try was the "Picanha Gaúcha", and here's where the experience dropped in terms of expectation vs reality. When judging food, I like to think of it as not only a visual process, but weighing one's reception had this been a blind taste test, where even the menu item's name is a mystery. The picanha of the Picanha Gaúcha simply did not hold up as something with an appearance or taste that could transport you to the other side of the world, to eat meat prepared in Southern Brazil or Northern Argentina. The rice tasted like a re-heated item from Trader Joe's. The beans and vinaigrette didn't stand out at all, both for their taste as well as for the portions. After tip, we spent over $100 on our dinner. The food wasn't necessarily poor; it was simply too plain and forgettable. I would rather spend more money and go to a high-end Brazilian Churrascaria/Restaurant Chain like Fogo de Chão or Bossa Nova, or return to one of the smaller restaurants from the LA Area that we love and visit over and over, like Pampas or Cafe Brazil. Here, you get that authentic taste, larger portions, and a comparable dining experience. We won't be returning to Ambue in the future, but recognize that the owners there are very kind and motivated, and it's a lovely little lounge dining experience if the food is not as big of a factor to your dining experience. read more

What an amazing hidden gem! I stopped by Ambue Restaurant in Hollywood during a World Cup soccer event, and even though the restaurant was completely packed, the service was incredibly fast and friendly. Renato took great care of me and made the experience even better. I ordered the octopus with potatoes, which was absolutely delicious, and he even brought me a complimentary beef empanada to try. It was fantastic and such a thoughtful touch.
