    Gorgeous views.

I had a really good day getting the tree with my family. But you need to be ready for an adventure with this place. You'll need to either do your research or go with someone who has gone before. No frills here. The road to arrive is very windy and at some points there is barely enough room for two cars to pass. We went the day after thanksgiving so it was understandably pretty busy. But once you get into the farm, there is plenty of property to spread out and find the tree of your dreams. The views are gorgeous. You get a hand saw at the entrance. You can pick any tree you see so long as you leave 2-4 branches below. The price is flat, no matter how big or small your tree is. But at $68 (additional $3 for netting) this is actually cheaper than almost any road side tree lot you'll find. Also the tree is fresh so I'm hoping it lasts longer than ones in a lot. Cons: 1) You have to tie the tree to your car to get it to the netting. So you're tying it twice. That was a hassle. 2) They do the netting for an extra fee ($3) but they don't do anything else. No help with tying. No twine. Nothing. So do your research ahead of time and come with your blanket and rope. 3) Even though they offer very little, the actual interaction with staff was sub par. We waited too long for the person to net our tree. And the woman collecting money was sitting with a tip jar. Even though they did nothing to get a tip I am always guilted by those jars. After paying with exact change, I asked for her to break a $5 bill so I could give a couple dollars. She said "I'd rather not." So I didn't give them a tip. I get that they're a "no frills place" but common courtesy isn't a frill. I'm 50/50 on coming back here. It was overall a good experience but i have a feeling we'd get a better experience somewhere else.

Had a nice experience with these folks. We were going to the Black Road tree farm but they don't take cash and I didn't have $80, so we looked for a close by spot and found these folks. Friendly service, good price, nice trees and really cool surroundings! They don't have all the apple cider and knickknacks but I appreciated the simplicity.

    22' Fresh Christmas Tree 2022!

Been coming here since 2009. Any size one price. $75 for 22 feet of fresh Christmas. Thanks Lone Star!

i bought a $22 groupon good for any size douglas fir. then i chopped down my tree. i later flipped it around backward.

i bought a groupon to this place: $22 for any size douglas fir (not including tax). i was very glad that i bought this groupon because lone star tree farm is actually a great place to buy a cut.it.yourself christmas tree. it's a relatively "no frills" kind of place. you just pull up, get a saw, drive down through the tree farm, park on the side of the road (don't block other cars), cut down your tree, tie it to your roof, pay, and drive off. it's really simple. granted, they don't have a santa claus here, no hot apple cider, no christmas craft fair... but i think they do sell honey on the side. they are "cash only..." but i think they also accept checks. they sell two kinds of trees here: douglas fir and white fir. i was a little scared that i would chop down the wrong kind, but i figured it out. the lady at the front was very helpful. it's fun to drive around the christmas tree farm since it's an unpaved dirt road. i suppose it's not a bad idea to bring your awd/4wd. my subaru forester had no problems.

They had over 4 picnic benches for families to picnic on, a small swing nearby, and a portable toilet near the main parking lot. Other parking lots were available if the main lot was full. They give you the saw upon check-in and you drop it off along with $80 for any tree size on your way out. My son enjoyed the candy cane he was given upon exit. I would go here again with my family. Advice: we went here upon opening Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. By 10:30am, the main parking lot was full and overflowing into other lots, but other lots had plenty of space. I recommend getting here early and having a picnic with your family.

The people at McKenzie Ranch treated us like family, directing us where we can park and how the whole process of cutting a tree works. Once we cut our own tree we brought it back down where we paid an extra $10 to have them shake it down and tie it up for us on our car. Trees cost around $60 but it is honestly a priceless experience, and it will last from thanksgiving until New Years if you water the tree consistently. One big thing is that when you come up here be sure to wear cloths u don't mind getting dirty/wet since it's usually pretty muddy around. I recommend some old jeans and hiking boots for some grip. Overall McKenzie Ranch gave me and my family not just the perfect Christmas tree but the best experience in cutting one down, be sure to swing on by for your own tree for the holiday season!

Was so excited to cut my own tree down this past Christmas! I researched a bunch of different tree…read morefarms in the Santa Cruz Mountains and it seemed that they all had a similar price range within $5-$10 of each other. I opted for Summit since I knew exactly where it was and that they'd have a pretty large selection. It was a set price of $80 per tree (2025), no matter if you got a 4 ft tree or 12 ft tree. They had a ton of trees to choose from, we parked shortly after the road turned and when we were leaving we realized just how how expansive the property was and how much more there was to explore. Just in the area we were in you could find trees of all sizes, small, tall, plump, and on the thinner side (this was the hardest to find). There's a small snack shack here but you can also bring your own food and tailgate before or after the hunt. We spent about 20 minutes saying this is the tree while then finding another one a few minutes later. They provided a saw and we brought our own measuring tape to make sure it would fit in our designated space. Once you get your tree you drive back to the front to pay, we ended up putting the tree inside my car, so I'm not sure if they'll help you secure it to the roof before you go, but you are responsible for doing it yourself as you make your journey back to the front. They sold stands at the front, I believe they were $20. When I got a real tree growing up, it was always from a lot so they would secure the stand and put the tree through a shaker for you. That wasn't the case here, so we did find a lot of small spiders after getting it home, and we also had our tree fall over after decorating it because we didn't get the straightest cut on the bottom and the trunk was a little oddly shaped for the stand.
