    Tree before cutting
    Sarah C.

Really really happy with our whole morning here. It does cost a bit more than other Christmas tree farms in the area, but you are paying for the experience and that's why it gets 5 stars - the experience was great. Also, it's a flat fee for any tree, so with that in mind, if you want a really big tree, maybe it's actually a pretty good price. So, what this awesome experience? There are a variety of trees of many different shapes and sizes and varieties and they are spread out all over, so it's an adventure to go out and find one that works for you. If you find one that you love far from the entrance - no worries, the tractor will come pick you up. They also have wreath making. You do have to buy the base to the wreath but then they have the clamper things for you to use and lots of different kinds of boughs and pine cones. Also very clear directions and staff to help you do it. Pro tip - bring your won berries to add - they didn't really have any of those. And then there are tons of swings - some that go very high out over a drop - fun stuff for kids. And hay bale piles to climb. And a picnic area. And a hammock area. And a bonfire with marshmallows and sticks for roasting. Apparently they used to have an epic pipe slide, but it burned down in the CZU fire and they are still in the process of rebuilding it. Anyways, we had no problem at all spending 2.5 hours here with our 3 year old and another 3 year old friend. Could have stayed longer, but it was nap time. It would be super fun for older kids too - more fun. On COVID - in general I was really happy. There was hand sanitizer everywhere. And disinfecting wipes at the porta potties. It's a huge space so clearly easy to social distance. Mask were required and compliance was high. There was one employee I kept seeing who often had his gator mask pulled down - which was discouraging because it makes me think that maybe they haven't created the culture around the importance of masks which I would really hope for. So yeah, that's there spot to improve - better culture around masks in their employees. Oh yeah, and I LOVE the tree we found! And although it's hard work, it's actually pretty fun to cut it down!

    Found the one!

Love the years of memories we have been able To make here. The kids and I adore the community, the SWINGS!!!!! The beautiful trees, and wreath making, marshmallows to roast too! They are so wonderful and even they were adversely impacted by the czu fires they are open!!!

I journeyed to Rancho Siempre Verde today for the first time! I love the laid-back feel of the place. The owner, Jake, was there to greet people and explain the 'tree getting' process. He was very friendly, informative, and had a good sense of humor. He gave me a map of the grounds that laid out where each type of tree is. He assured me that if I needed any help to just wave down one of their crew and they'd help me out. I got a saw and headed off to find a tree! I love the fact that the tree will grow back if you leave some branches at the bottom. So you don't kill the tree...yay! I found a lovely cedar and, leaving a good amount of the bottom to give it a good head start at growing back, I began to saw. Well, I got about 70% of the way through before I pooped out. I walked back to the parking lot area and let a crew member know I needed help. I was told that normally they drive around on the tractors to assist but it was slower today being a weekday so I had to go to them. Jake came down, grabbed a chain saw, and gave me a tractor ride out to my mostly cut tree. In just a couple of minutes he had it cut and loaded onto the tractor. When we got back to the parking lot area he put it through this device that magically nets the tree (see pic) which makes it so much easier to manage getting in on/off the car, into the stand, and into the house. One of his crew did a great job at strapping it to the top of my car, and I drove up highway 17 without it blowing off. ;) I really enjoyed the whole process, and now we have a beauty of a tree to enjoy for the holiday season. It's like having a little bit of the forest in our home. Thank you, Jake and crew! One thing I noticed is that the tree looks much bigger in the house than it did on the farm, so keep that in mind when you're picking a tree. It's a good thing we have high ceilings! Tip --If you're planning on cutting your own tree, I recommend bringing a pair of gardening gloves with you.

Note: This place is cash and check only. Ok, now that's out of the way let me tell you about this place.... IT'S AMAZING! Marshamallows, multiple huge swings, LOTS OF DOGS and the most of all... the drive to go to this place - ocean view along the highway 1 coast.. worth the drive from San Jose :) Our friend had this place in mind to go cut a small tree to bring to her parents' place. It is family owned tree farm with friendly and helpful staff. It was both of our significant others' first time to cut a tree and the man with the hat had given us the "orientation" on how things work here. He gave us a map and told us each locations and what they are plus a saw to use for cutting the tree. I didn't pay attention much since I was so busy playing with dogs that was coming to us. Our friend has a Jack Russell Terrier mix who wanted to play with the big dogs. It was super cute. We walked around the farm to find the "perfect" small tree and we found it towards the front-ish area of the farm. Cutting the tree was kind of challenging since it was more on the smaller side so our significant others took turn cutting the stump. Once we were done cutting the tree, we walked back to the front desk for some assistance to get it netted. We were asked if we needed help carrying the tree to our car but we didn't need to since it was manageable to carry and we parked pretty near. We didn't know that it was cash or check only so the lady handling the payments gave us an option to send the check so it worked out in the end. We walked around more to explore the area and we see kids and their parents making wreaths out of the tree they've cut too. Looked pretty fun. Lots of family dogs running around and wanting to play fetch with you too.... with fallen pine cones lol. We found a place to cut Christmas tree in the future. I love that you can bring your dog(s), roast marshmallows and breathe fresh air! I highly recommend coming here :)

We've been going here (from San Jose) for a few years in a row and each year we try to go earlier and end up staying later. We usually go the day after Thanksgiving. I guess every place can run out of trees the closer to Christmas you wait but we have such a good time hanging out and picking out the right one it's more about the experience and memories than the piece of wood that sits in our living room for a few weeks. Do bring food and drinks to snack on while you're there. Also - we brought both our dogs this year and they all got along fine with all the others running around off leash. Marsh-mellows are provided but you might want a pocket knife to whittle down a good stick - there's a huge bonfire and plenty of wood to keep the fun going. I agree with Kurt K - the view from the top of the hill is magnificent. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/S6m17TwTRTStBzeojBHYCmasXc0A1zUWc19Y0lOcPiQ?feat=directlink

While in school, I learned a lot about farm-fresh food and what that exactly meant. Apparently once…read moreyou've tasted produce straight from the vine, you'll never go back. But as a kid, I never really had the opportunity to visit a farm or even grow my own fruits and vegetables. Living in constant suburbia meant frequent trips to Ralph's or Safeway. That all changed last Sunday when I picked my very own strawberries with my girlfriend at Swanton Berry Farm. After hearing my boss boast about picking 12 pounds (!!!) of the juiciest and most delicious strawberries, I knew I had to go. And what better person to take then my girlfriend who was a HUGE fan of strawberries. So Swanton Berry Farm is a local supplier of fresh and organic fruits along the beautiful coasts of Northern California. They have two locations for Berry picking: Coastways Ranch is next to Ano Nuevo State Park (which you should go to!) and The Farm Stand is a bit further south right outside Davenport. The main difference between the two is that the latter is only open for picking on weekdays (although you can purchase stuff everyday) whereas Coastways is accessible during the weekends from 10am-5pm. Really sweet deal since you can pretty much pick during any day of the week! We ended up visiting Coastways Ranch since it was a Sunday. Getting here was actually kind of a doozy for us. Though the drive was very scenic, it took a little over an hour from the South Bay Area. And that's because the only "quick" way to the coast was south on Highway 17 and back north up Highway 1. GPS came in handy, and there were fortunately signs directing where to go. If y'all get lost, just note that the ranch is around 10 miles north of Davenport. Besides the drive, hardest part was making into the parking lot because it's about a half mile of unpaved dirt. Have to drive slow otherwise you'll go into a ditch! Now if all this sounds too stressful, hear me out; it was SO WORTH THE JOURNEY. Once we got out of the car, we were greeted by ROWS UPON ROWS of strawberries - far as my tiny eyes could see. Immediately after we got our sturdy box from the stand, we washed our hands (there's a station) and immediately started picking as many as we could. Because we came right in the middle of the season (around summer), the strawberries were SO AMAZING. They came in all kinds of sizes. Some were a bit riper than others, so there was plenty of variety to choose from. We were allowed to sample however much we wanted before paying as long as we didn't waste anything. And by golly I filled my tummy and our box like no tomorrow because these were HANDS DOWN BAR NONE the BEST strawberries I've ever had in my life. The size, sweet taste, and color - these characteristics were so different and much more authentic compared to what you'd find in the store. For example, these strawberries were much smaller since they weren't pumped with growth hormones. True to what I'd learned in school, I'll probably never look at store bought strawberries again. After an hour of picking, we pretty much filled our entire box. It came out to be about 4 freaking pounds so use that as a measuring stick. I highly recommend only getting as much as you can eat in like a week since these suckers go bad FAST (or just freeze). Cost was $5 a pound ($4.5 if you get over 10 pounds) so we paid around $19. The guy at the stand actually gave me more money back in change, and I thought that was VERY generous of him! Farmers are a godsend I tell y'all. Truth be told, I never really cared about strawberries until my experience at Swanton Berry Farm. Sure, I thought they were really nice fruits but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them. Now, however, I am SO DOWN to drive over an hour to pick strawberries because Coastways Ranch and Swanton Berry Farm were definitely worth an "Omg, I'd travel 2 hours for this" rating. Have fun and prosper,

BAD experience. Not…read morebecause the strawberries are small and not sweet (Kinda expected that because it's not strawberry season) BUT because they are DISHONEST. Got 8 strawberries only because the strawberries weren't that sweet, went to pay, got charged HALF A POUND ($5/lb, 0.5lb for $2.5). Found it really weird that 8 small strawberries costs $2.5. Went home and weighed it, found that the 8 strawberries weighs only 0.172 pound!!!!! (See pic - adjusted for the tare weight) So that means they OVERCHARGED me!

"Rest and relaxation"? "Root beer and rum"? Maybe we will never know. Let's get the easy stuff out of the way:: Ambience: you wouldn't even know the places there if you don't have a map leading you there or a referral from a local unfortunately. Not sure why they don't have a sign out. Service is a little irrelevant since there is simply a person behind the counter checking you out. Now onto the product: there really is only one offering that is hard to pass these guys by for if you're in Pascadero area: R&R offer a cup of peanut for $4 that is magically delicious and snackable. did President Jimmy Carter have peanuts this delicious from his peanut farm? I submit that he did not? Pro tip: Do not have them around if you feel an oncoming snack attack. You'll possibly consume the entire cup o' vegan legumes which brings me to an interesting factoid: did you know that a peanut is neither a pea nor a nut? It is indeed a legume. The peanut is more like one of those hideous lentils then delicious pea or a delicious nut. Why!? This seems so unnecessary. I wouldn't be surprised to find That President Jimmy Carter President Obama somehow Secretly teamed up to rename and re-categorize what is clearly a nut into a legume. This is much the way the President Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of Mara Lago or whatever it was. A little personal story about R&R: it was the case that when I moved away from the central coast I found myself trying to replicate these tastey legumes By cooking peanuts in the oven at my new home which is 6300 feet above sea level. Many calculations must be made to adjust For cooking at that altitude versus at sea I think I have come close To replicating them but still no dice. I cannot get quite the coverage of salty goodness to adhere to the Redskins the way they have. This is my main struggle in life right now I have been trying to replicate this spicy peanut extravaganza and not really getting very close. Still worth it to just buy it here.

So on our way back home we went here and it was pretty cool. I didn't realize how close Morgan Hill was to the Cupertino/San Jose area (~30 miles or less). It was a great experience. The entrance to the parking lot is very clear but it's only one way so if you see parking just park there. I saw cars park on the highway road because it was full. First you check in to pay admission for adults ( kids under 4 feet are free) then they hand you the bucket and your on your way. It was a bit muddy because of the rain the past few days so make sure to wear shoes you don't care about. We were a bit lost as to where we were allowed to pull but we found our footing and it was a fun hour experience. You can eat the cherries as you pick. They don't care. There's a lot of cherries at the bottom of the tree as well as on top for the kids to pick. But because of the weather and rain I saw more baby cherries or cherries that weren't ready to ripe yet. Maybe next weekend it will be better. When you check out, they weigh it and bag it in a plastic bag for you. Morgan Hill downtown is very close to here so you could go there for lunch or walk around to complete your Morgan Hill experience but you'll probably have to make a UTURN to get there.
