Lollipops 07-25-26 Saw this online a wanted to give it a try. Really nice restaurant. Plenty of room for guests. Restaurant was clean and had a fun design! Lollipop curtains added to the fun. We were seated right away. The staff were friendly and polite. She explained the menu and how some dishes were made. We started off with the Honey Garlic Sauce lollipops. The batter was crispy and the meat was juicy and flavorful. Will definitely try different flavors! We also had: Shrimp Bowl served over a bed of red beans, Louisiana dirty rice and topped with our famous brown gravy and Shrimp. Also a side of Macaroni and Cheese. Very flavorful. Catfish Atchafalaya, Fried Catfish with crawfish Sauce served over Rice. Crispy and flaky catfish. Served hot and fresh. I also had a side of Fried Cabbage. All the food was made hot and fresh! Lollipops is the spot! Have you ever gone into a restaurant with manners and decorum, but the quality and flavor of the food was so exceptional that you quickly lost all of your sensibilities and devolved into a mindless animal hell bent on devouring everything? Well that's what happened to me at Lollipop's this evening, and I'm not even mad that I stained one of my favorite shirts while shoveling handfuls of these otherworldly morsels into my greedy pie hole. Their food was so spectacular that it straight up awoke something primal in me. From chicken "lollipops" covered in sweet honey garlic sauce that I would seriously consider bottling to later take home and chug in a dark corner where no one could judge my hedonism, to creamy Mac and Cheese with a tiny kick of spice that makes your taste buds swell in ecstasy, and perfectly seasoned shrimp bursting with flavor, these folks throw down in the kitchen like that is what God put them on this Earth to do. From bite number one I became a ravenous creature whose only objective was "Give me more!" Halfway through this gustatory adventure, I was able to focus on my surroundings long enough to see how my husband was enjoying his little slice of Heaven. That question was quickly answered when I noticed that he was so lost in the absolute bliss, that his beard was covered in some beautiful gift from God that we lovingly referred to as "Cajun queso". He got an open faced chicken poboy that was drenched in this mythic nectar, and he was clearly so overcome by his basic need to devour more, that his hands and mouth were wearing most of it. My son, normally quite verbose and animated in dinner socialization, was so hyper focused on his next bite that he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge either one of us until the finale of the meal. Next time you want to go somewhere and lose yourself in a gluttonous haze of decadence and flavor, do yourself a favor and make your way to Lollipops. Those was our first time visiting Lollipops and let me tell you it definitely will not be our last! From the moment you step inside, you are greated by friendly, welcoming people. They were so nice and friendly. They talked to us and asked us if we had Ben there before, talked to us about the menu, answer the million of questions we had, and didnt get mad or offended when we butchered a few of the pronunciations. We ordered the Sweet Honey Garlic 3 piece Lollipop, the Catfish Atchafalaya with Fried Cabbage, a side of Mac N Cheese, and the Shrimp Bowl. No matter what you order here...you won't be disappointed. The food came out super quick and was fresh and hot! The Lollipops were crispy, with a sweet and slightly spicy sorta Asian flair to them. SO Yummy! The Catfish Atchafalaya was a huge serving of 2 pieces of catfish and the sauce had crawfish in it you could actually see served over a bed of dirty rice. It was so freakin good. We had that with a side of fried cabbage that was cooked and flavored to perfection! We also got a side of Mac N Cheese, which most places isn't anything to write home about...BUT here...let me tell you...I dont usually go for the Mac nlN Cheese, but this stuff was amazing, like I kept going back for more...I just couldn't help myself. And last but certainly not least, we had the Shrimp Bowl. This was a bowl of heaven brought right to your table served from the Cajun gods themselves! Wow! Open faced shrimp poboy is dreamy and going to make you want to keep coming back for more! The shrimp, crawfish, and gravy cover the bread perfectly. I had been hearing a lot about Lollipops in Temple and I wanted to check it out. Well yesterday, I did.. *long sigh* I went in and placed an order to go. The guy behind the register said he was new so I cut him some slack on the order process. I wanted to try the places namesake, so I got the smallest order (3) of lemon pepper chicken lollipops. I was asked if i wanted to make it a combo. I said sure. So I added a side of dirty rice and a sweet tea. I saw that they had cobblers for dessert so I decided to add a blackberry cobbler. The "combo" plus the dessert came out to over $27. Price breakdown: 3 lollipops - $11.99 Added side of dirty rice - $2.99 Added sweet tea - $3.25 Dessert - $6.25 Total with taxes, fees and rounded up tip: $29.00 I feel like I waited longer than expected for my food to come out. I thought, "ok, they're new, cut them some more slack". The waiters did seem very attentive with the dine in customers. It is also decorated very cute inside. When they were wrapping up my order, the guy at the counter says "ma'am I'm sorry we don't have blackberry cobbler. Will peach do?" I said sure. Food review: The sauce on the lemon pepper lollipops was okay. Had a little kick. But I didn't think it was worth $12 for 3. they aren't that big. But had a nice crunch to them even with the sauce on them. The dirty rice. Immediate no. I took one bite and immediately knew something wasn't right. Rice was mushy and it lacked all sense of flavor. Like not even salt. Sweet tea was sweet tea. Little steep at $3.25 for one but we move on. Peach Cobbler. I found it was a little too sweet but that could be a personal preference. Good sized portion though. Overall, I hate to say it but I wouldn't recommend Lollipops. There wasn't a huge variety of items on the menu and I think the prices were too high. For example, the sides are priced at $6-$7 each if not in a combo. I wanted to support a local black owned business but I can't bring myself to go back. read more

Lollipops is the real deal for soul food in Temple! We've been twice in the last two weeks and both visits were excellent. The food has so much soul and flavor -- it's comforting, well-seasoned, and just smacks. My husband ordered the catfish both times. The second visit it tasted a little different, but it was still delicious. I got the LP Burger loaded with fried jalapeños that were perfectly spicy and crunchy. The dirty rice is wonderfully spicy -- I could honestly eat that every day. The homemade fries were a huge hit with our toddler! We tried the kids' chicken the first time, but it had a little kick, so last visit we switched to the grilled cheese (it could've used a bit more cheese). My pork chop bowl was fire -- all the flavors melted together like a home-cooked Southern meal. Both times we picked up, the staff was so kind and friendly. Walking inside, it really feels like you're in New Orleans -- the vibe is perfect. This is a local, family-owned spot and it shows in the quality and care. We'll definitely keep coming back. Me and my wife decided to try Lollipops a new black owned restaurant in downtown temple. First things first the service..... nothing less than AMAZING . We weren't only greeted at the door by the staff but we also received the best service we've gotten at a restaurant. Our server was attentive, nice , and offered recommendations on the menu. Along with the great service came a fantastic atmosphere with a great choice of music playing and an overall "smooth jazz" type scenery. It looks as if they even might have live music at times which is also a plus! Now, time for the meat and potatoes...... the food was great to say the least. I ordered the open faced shrimp poboy and cabbage with a sweet tea, while my wife ordered the LP jalepeno and shrimp poboy with dirty rice. The open faced came with shrimp that was fried to perfection and crawfish étouffée that had a perfect combination of flavor and spice, not to mention the portions were absolutely stacked! The cabbage was a fried cabbage that also tasted amazing , well seasoned and mildly spiced. All in all I'd give my order a 9.8/10 DEFINITELY WILL BE BACK AGAIN. My wife mentioned her shrimp and jalapeños were fried and seasoned to perfection with zero complaints with overload of shrimp and quality bread on both orders giving it a 10/10. We saw this new restaurant, and made the mistake of eating there. The food was WAY too spicy to eat. We even asked to be sure, and were lied to about it. I'm talking burn your tongue and ruin the rest of your meal spicy. My wife is Mexican, and eats about everything. NOT THIS FOOD! The food was WAY over-priced. For nearly $100, we should have enjoyed a full luxury dinner, with silver utensils, and desert and drinks included. I nearly fell off my chair when I looked at my bill. There is nothing I can think of that is worth what we paid. Our food was literally served in plastic containers like you would use for your pets, or use for a picnic. We were given plastic forks to eat with, and even had to ASK for a spoon! Same for the drinks. Insulting and unacceptable, especially for their outrageous prices. The "waiter" was a high-pressure salesman, not a waiter. We were pushed into getting things we didn't want, and were brought (and charged for!) things we didn't order. He brought out our desert, wrapped and ready to go, before we even ordered. That way, we couldn't say "No thanks. We have no room for desert." Then, as if to add insult to injury, our bill was wrong. Thankfully, I caught the waiter's error. He claimed to have corrected it, but it STILL SHOWS UP ON MY STATEMENT. So now I have to go through the process of disputing the claim. I don't know if others have had that same experience, but it looks to me like it may NOT have been an error after all. DO NOT EAT AT LOLLIPOPS!There are a dozen other restaurants in Temple where you can eat food that is not ridiculously overly-spicy, on real plates, using real utensils, for HALF the price. You won't be pushed and pressured into ordering things you don't want and can't eat anyways. You won't have things show up on your plate, and be charged for, that you didn't order. You won't have to protest erroneous charges with both the waiter and the credit card company. read more

We tried the catfish, just yum and lots of flavor combined with their homemade tartar sauce was perfect had the lollipop chicken in 3 different flavors with fried cabbage and maccaroni! I ordered the large 5-piece because I thought the small 3-piece wouldn't be enough food. I was wrong. The portions are large. I did get to try 2 flavors-the sweet honey garlic and the buffalo. Both were delicious but the honey garlic was the best! Definitely recommend this place! read more

The prices at this establishment isn't adding up I ordered a (3)-count lollipop for $11.99, red beans & rice for $6.25, and a Kool-Aid for $3.25 That should not total $29. On top of that, they tried to charge me an extra $4-$5 for a salad I never asked for. They didn't give me a proper run down how the menu works but If I'm correct why was my total almost $30 for only three items? I'm also aware about taxes even if that was the case it should not be almost $8 dollars in tax As for the food, the red beans & rice lacked flavor, and the only thing that was actually decent was the honey garlic sauce that goes on the chicken. The sauce alone is the reason for any stars at all. I will say the employees were nice so I hate to give them such low ratings but I rather just go get some wings, not worth the price for the amount that I was given. read more

My family ordered take out. We loved it. We had the opened face chicken po-boy with cheese sauce and the bourbon lollipops with fries. I loved the richness od the cheese sauce on the po-boy. The sandwich reminded me of living in New Orleans for the year I was there. The lollipops were very tasty. I think next time I will try the lemon pepper ones.
