We love crawfish and this place definitely gets a high rating from us. While exploring Belton I noticed this place on Google Maps, and confirmed their hours and location on their Facebook to make sure they were really there and open. We went here on a Sunday in late May (which is really getting to the end of crawfish season) for a late lunch when most other places had already closed for the day, we were the only ones there but saw a couple people get to go orders. They had a large covered area with picnic tables with buckets for the empty crawfish shells. We tried the "combo" (which came with 2 lbs crawfish, shrimp,corn, potatoes and sausage) to get a taste of their flavor. We did ask for no sausage in it and they said they would just sub corn or potatoes for it, but then didn't which was disappointing. However, the flavor and spice was perfect for us; lots of garlic! Lots of BIG ones too! We liked It enough that before we left Belton we went back and got 5 lbs of just crawfish to go to eat at home; unfortunately the 5 pounds we brought home were not as spicy and flavorful as the 1st batch we got; but we still really enjoyed it and it was a great value- the price per pound was less than anywhere else I've been in a while. My husband placed an order 2 days prior to pick up and he spoke to the guy informing him he need 30-35 lbs of crawfish for an event @12 on Saturday. We were aware his hours said opens at 12. The guy said he would be there at 9 to have the order ready 10 as agreed. We showed up there and the guy wasn't there. We waited 45 minutes and even called many times, but no answer. I find this service unacceptable. If you are a business and you agree on something with your customers please honor it. It makes it very hard to find things at last minute to fulfill my event when I made the order in enough time for it to be ready. I don't recommend this place for events or large orders read more

I really loved Rusty Shells when I first tried it, and I still rank it in my top 3 crawfish spots from Waco to Austin. Because of this, I did my birthday dinner there this year and my experience was a little disappointing, especially it being my birthday. I will say the food was still good, so we did our best not to let the vibe bring us down, but I did find that it bummed me out for a few days following the experience. First, our waitress seated a party of 8 women who were clearly celebrating something under a speaker that was so loud we would not have been able to hear each other talking. We asked to move and were met with attitude which continued throughout the remainder of the meal. My friend and I ordered dressed Dos Equis and she brought the bottles with no salt or lime...no problem, we asked to just bring us some glasses and the salt and lime separate. She brought us SHOT glasses, a tiny amount of lime and told us to use our table salt. Oddly, two other people ordered tequila shots and those were dressed with lime and salt. Also when one person asked about the Mac and cheese, it was not revealed that the $5 Mac and cheese is literally Kraft. She barely checked on us after our food came out (all separately by 5-10 minutes), but luckily there was another sweet waitress who helped us and even took our picture. I know they have since moved to a truck instead of the building they were in, but hopefully they don't let waitresses treat large parties this way in the future. read more

Stopped by tonight and ordered 5 lbs of crawfish "hot." Waited about 30 minutes even though it had been posted that the rush was over. I was sitting about 20 feet from the window and was told there was a buzzer malfunction. When the order finally came out the crawfish were cold, not even lukewarm. The crawfish were cooked firm and not overdone, but the seasoning was extremely light. When the bag opened there was no garlic aroma and the seasoning did not penetrate the meat. Even ordering the "hot" level, the heat was barely noticeable. Honest breakdown of what I experienced: Customer experience: 3/10 Aroma: 1-2 / 10 Salt level: 0 / 10 Garlic: 0 / 10 Heat (ordered hot): 2 / 10 Depth of flavor: 1 / 10 Seasoning penetration: 0 / 10 Cook quality: about 7 / 10 (firm texture) For $45 for 5 lbs ($9/lb), I expected stronger seasoning and more flavor penetration. I tried my luck with crab legs again and I can say it was better than my previous experience from a different establishment. I've been following this business for some time because I heard they had good crawfish but, I was never able to make it. This is a former food truck, turned actual restaurant within the past month or so. Family ran/owned. I have to say the service wasnt the best. After receiving my food, my waitress never checked on me again compared to the multiple times the other waitress checked on her tables. As for the food, I ordered the crab leg plate. This came with shrimp, potatoes, sausage, and corn. The crab legs were made perfectly! I love a good crab leg that just slides out of the shell. They use some sort of gravy sauce and give you a small cup of butter on the side. This is the first I've had such sauce on a seafood boil. The sauce isn't nasty, just different and couldve used a bit more of it to provide more flavor. The side of butter provided also didn't have any flavor. The dish however, was very filling. Currently, they dont have a liquor license so you are welcome to byob for the time being. There's also ample parking however, if you're using the GPS it'll likely send you down the wrong residential street. The restaurant is located off 35 so keep that in mind if you get lost while using the GPS. read more

I had high expectations for this place after hearing good things, but my experience was a letdown. We arrived at 7 PM on a Saturday, and although it wasn't busy (only about six occupied tables), it took 20 minutes for a server to greet us. From there, it was another 20 minutes to get our drinks and 15 more just to place our order. We ordered oysters, a lobster platter, a small catfish, and 4 pounds of crawfish. After waiting an hour for the raw oysters, I flagged down a server to check on them, only to be told they were still defrosting. At that point, we asked to cancel the oysters, assuming the rest of our food would come out soon. Unfortunately, we waited another hour for our main dishes, and when they finally arrived, the order was incorrect. The food was flavorful, but the lack of communication about wait times and the overall slow service were frustrating. To make matters worse, we were charged for the oysters we never received. While the food itself was good, the experience didn't justify a two-hour wait and inattentive service. We like to support small businesses, and we're very excited to give this place a try. Yeah, this is not the place. I'd honestly give this place zero stars if it were an option. The servers are rude and act like they don't want to be there. We were treated like an inconvenience when we asked for silverware. The tables and floor are dirty and there's so many flies. We didn't stay long enough to try the food because they don't bring you a utensil to crack the crab with. The server's response was, "we don't have any because people keep stealing them." How's that the customers problem? Her words were, "it's not my fault, I just work here!" Even if the food was good, it doesn't make up for bad customer service. Top notch food with a kick holy smokes love this place..! Shrimp was clean, sausage perfectly spiced, corn soft and the potatoes were perfectly salted and balanced. Made me crave a cold brew honestly. Service was fast for a boil that I bought and the lady was super friendly and kind. Couldn't have asked for better. The waitress that took our order, told us there was no crab nor lobster but as we were leaving people that had arrived after me and my family got crab. Only me out of three total wanted crab. So I sufficed for catfish, my catfish was dry and over cooked, compared to my moms which you could tell there was a difference between them, hers was good. As well as our waitress did not even ask if we wanted drinks just proceeded to take our orders and leave until we had to call her over for her service.
