A hidden gem along I-55! Was driving to Springfield and found this great spot along the way. Well worth the visit. Ordered the lumpia, bbq pork with an extra skewer, and the Magu Magu drink (mango juice with fruit pieces inside). I've been to a few Filipino restaurants and I will say Lola's lumpia were the best I've had. Served with a lightly spicy dipping sauce, they were crispy, warm, and really good! The BBQ pork skewers were served over rice and were perfectly cooked. If you have a decent appetite, I definitely recommend ordering the extra skewer as I wouldn't have found two skewers to be enough. The pork was not chewy, came off the skewer with an easy tug, and left a little sauce on the rice. Served with a vinegary dipping sauce which gave the perfect blend of a sweet sauce and a little acidity. Tried a Magu Magu drink which was really good and washed down the food perfect. I'll be heading back through Pontiac on my way home and will stop by again to try more. And then when I make my periodic trips downstate, will be by again and again. Salamat! read more

So happy that Lola's is along the way home from EIU. Stopped by for late lunch. Everything we ordered were delicious. I had the lechon with rice. Made crisp and the archara and vinegar sauce made the meal complete. My husband had the adobo wings with rice. Looked really good too! My daughter ate up the longsilog really fast. My other daughter ordered the poke and fries. She was pleased. Our drinks were perfect. The calamansi was refreshing and the Thai tea hit the spot. They were friendly and the cost of the food was just right. The restaurant was clean and airy. More customers came in as we were finishing our meal. The place did not feel over-crowded. I went once for lunch and the chicken wings were fabulous. Perfectly deep fried and more importantly not over cooked. I also had lumpias and pork skewers. It was all pretty decent albeit on the salty side. Overall, I remembered how perfect the chicken wings were. I raved about the chicken wings to my friends at work and so they went with me for dinner on a different day. This turned out to be a very different experience than the previous time. We had two orders of chicken wings and they were completely dry. The meat was either over cooked or re-cooked but it was absolutely terrible. Two of us ordered ramen and we both felt it was far too salty. If they cut the salt by about 75%, that would be closer in the ballpark for my tastes. The spam is a good touch though. It tasted sweet compared to the saltiness of the broth. For dessert, I've tried the shaved ice and the tapioca bubble tea. The shaved ice dessert was too far too sweet for my liking but I'm going to guess that kids will like it. The Ube boba tea was reasonable. The tapioca pearls were not fully cooked however. read more

Well, I still haven't tried the Ramen but today I tried the Pork Belly Adobo Tacos and the Popcorn Chicken with K-Sauce. Great meal for sure. The Pork Belly Adobo Tacos are easily the best tacos in Pontiac. The Popcorn Chicken was delicious. K-Sauce was awesome but you get your choice so pick and enjoy. I could argue that with the K-Sauce, this is the best Chicken on Pontiac. Garlic Rice is the best Rice in Pontiac as well so you tell me...is this a good place to eat? I still want to try the ramen but so far so good. Friendly service seems to be a given at Lola's. This is a place that you need to try. read more

Filipino restaurant in small town America? That's almost unheard of in my world. Anyway, couldn't wait to give it a try, specially when the hubby was craving for halo-halo. Finally went and as I entered the restaurant, a whiff of something familiar greeted me--garlic fried rice! Memories of childhood of a home-cooked meal. Hubby ordered the pancit and BBQ (which came with rice), and I had the lumpia and the longsilog (the garlic rice did it for me). Ran out of bilo-bilo so had the halo-halo too. I would say for the price which is very affordable, the portion size was just right, but there's definitely no shortage on flavor! The homemade longanisa (sausage patty instead of links) didn't disappoint and the garlic fried rice was spot on! Nice achara on the side was perfect. We ate it with our bbq too! And what's not to like about lumpia and pancit? It's always a crowd favorite. Found out too late that you can order a combo for 2 lumpia. Needless.to say my hubby was happy with his choice. The halo-halo, he wasvsurprised that it was the right sweetness. No sugar needed. Generous amount of different yummy ingredients mixed with milky shaved ice was a great way to end our meal. Coming back to try the Korean chicken (banana ketchup) and ramen. Hubby planning on the jumbo hotdog, again reminiscent of his childhood! Adobo and palabok in the future? My favorite is the longsilog (garlic fried rice, egg and homemade patty of longanisa. The popcorn chicken with the home made dipping sauces are hard to pass up. I never thought I'd find food like this in Pontiac, IL, but Lola's is probably my new favorite spot! The classic, home-style Filipino food is so unique and different than anything else you'll find around here.. I have a friend who lives in the Philippines, and I sent her the menu and pics of my food and she said it looks just like what they have at home!! Delicious long silong particularly if you buy the chilimansi sauce. And the bbq pork is also great with the sauce. Though the sauce is chilis and the Filipino orangy citrus fruit calamansi, it is not hot, just flavorful. Great advice at the counter. And all containers and utensils are recyclable or composable. As a small business owner myself, I write my review in hopes that this businesses, would listen & make the necessary changes to continue too grow and have repeat customers. The food was very good but the service was horrible. When we first walked in we weren't greeted, it would be nice if someone said "hello welcome to Lola's" (strike 1), then I ordered a pork shish kebab and I was asked if I wanted garlic rice (it was implied that rice comes with it), I said sure, Little did I know that they would charge me $1.50 more (Strike 2, for not explaining this extra charge) , and then I was proceeded to be given regular white rice, & garlic rice. Lastly I ordered a cup of water, they charge me $.50 for the water, but this was not explained either (Strike 3). it was not until I got my food, and the receipt that I noticed these charges. I went up and spoke to a young lady, about the extra $1.50 for the garlic rice, and she seemed to not resolve the issue. Meanwhile the owner throughout this whole time, is on her cell phone surfing the Internet (strike 4), for the owner of a business to be on the phone constantly sends a bad signal of disinterest or "please don't bother me, I am busy," especially in a service industry. Finally, I spoke to the owner and asked about this extra charge for the rice, but was not offered to make it right/refund this amount, she said if I didn't want the rice she would throw it away (strike 5). Lastly, when I was eating my food and coming to the end, I found a hair in my rice (strike 6), by then I wasn't going to say anything, because the owner who was still on her phone, really didn't seem to care about her customers. Mind you I am bald, so this was not my hair. Sadly good food, does not make up for poor customer service. I did have suggestions on how to improve her business, regarding search engine results, but I decided not to share this information, as she seemed to be disinterested in me as a customer. I hope the needed changes are made, & that this business flourishes in the years to come. read more
