The service was fantastic 1 our waitress was incredibly attentive and kind the entire time. We tried a little bit of everything, but you get free edamame when you sit. We ordered crab rangoon, curry, California roll, monster roll, orange chicken, chicken pad Thai, and mango cloud boba tea and every single dish was a 10/10. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, the entrees were perfectly seasoned, and the presentation was stunning. Also, the lychee martini was delicious, easily one of the best I've had in a long time! First timer! Koi Asian Bistro did not disappoint! You can smell the flavorful food aroma as soon as you hit the door! We were seated asap! And the service was amazingly fast! We ordered the Pad see you noodles with white rice along with the orange chicken and a side of chicken fried rice. Even Fresh edamame for the complimentary. I live in Indianapolis, but we were in Kankakee visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright home, which was absolutely fantastic. We decided to dine at Koi, and I'm so glad we did. The food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the sushi quality was impressive. The salmon appetizer our waitress recommended was outstanding. Got to be one of the best restaurants in Bourbonnais for Asian, or actually anything. If looking for modern sushi around here, this is certainly the correct place. Koi has a ton of rolls to choose from, as well as other stuff like hibachi and whatever. Has pretty good prices for the portions, to be honest. The restaurant also is one of the classiest places in town, but it's affordable for the most part though. A lot of the appeal is the sushi, but that's just one part of the menu of course. It also has some pretty good and strong drinks. They had a few specials going on when we came in. Among these was the Jaeger Mojito, which got my attention just wanting to see how this liquor goes okay in a mojito, and surprise it was actually good. It's $12 for a pretty big glass, so it was a good price. Also there was Red Bull. This had a little bottle of Jaegar you could pour in to make a float of it on top. As for the rolls, these were the main reasons we came. It's about $6.25 for rolls. After looking at the vegetarian choices, we got a couple. These were the A.A.C. and the Peanut Avocado Rolls. Pretty big rolls and these were packed with fillings. The peanuts aren't one of the usual ingredients in rolls, but these added a crunch and went pretty well to be honest. Could for sure come here again. It's looking like a classy place, but it's actually pretty casual for the most part it seems. Thai basil wasn't hot enough asked for chili oil to spice it up also missing some galangal, lemongrass so it was missing some of that fresh flavor. Large portions though. Satay had no tumeric and I make better peanut sauce. Great ambiance. Soup and salad were great. Sushi nori wasn't toasted so it was a little soft with no snap. Critical bc I love my Thai. I am gluten free and dairy free and my mom is allergic to eggs. My mom got the Miso soup and the Avocado roll. I got the rainbow roll which is a California roll wrapped in avocado and sashimi. They got us little cups of gluten free soy sauce to go with our sushi. Our waitress was knowledgeable about gluten free and checked with the kitchen to make sure that everything was ok for us to eat. My dad and sister both got fried rice but im not sure if that can be made gluten free or not. Not safe for gf - Staff uneducated. and not good in general. Ordered two rolls that had no gluten ingredients listed, but had the waitress check as I wasn't confident in the spicy Mayo. She checked and told me all was ok per the "celiac host". The rolls were delivered and had tempura crunch in them. Thankfully, I ate it before my celiac daughter. I was Sick all the way home. Notified the waitress and said we were leaving. she sent out another staff member who promised to make my daughter a gf roll and they did. Then they charged me for EVERYTHING. All three rolls were on my bill! All that was offered was a free dessert. My non-gf daughter and spouse didn't eat their orange chicken or general tsos chicken- said it was gross. Nice little place in a strip mall right off of Convent Drive in Bourbonnais. Classic Asian dishes, but done extremely well. My kids (30 and 26), love the sushi and sashimi. I love the hibachi plate which I'm guessing is supposed to be for two, but I eat it alone (yum yum). It is always fantastic, freshly prepared, and very filling. I'm told that the sushi here is good, but I'm not a fan of sushi, so I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. It was nothing special, more or less what you could expect from any similar restaurant. Soooo I've always loved this restaurant however a few days ago I ordered the calamari. The first thing I noticed was that all the pieces were exactly the same size. Like exactly the same. Odd right because octopus legs are not uniform in shape? So we ate some and it did NOT taste like real calamari AT ALL. We broke a piece apart and inside the breading is a solid square tube inside of a sausage like casing. We called the restaurant and was told it was real calamari and that they prepare it fresh. I said it appears to be synthetic. The person on the phone told me to order something else next time. At minimum I expected an apology. But with such rudeness THERE WILL BE NO NEXT TIME. read more
