I was on a training trip for work and decided to give this a try. $19 for the buffet. It had a large variety of food. It was hot. I tried 3 different soups. I tried the egg drop soup, hot and sour soup and the wonton soup. All good. I loved the fried rice. Crab Rangoon was decent. The pepper steak was tender, while the green pepper and onion were still crispy. Ribs had a good flavor and also very tender. Buffet came with drink and dessert/ice cream. Hands down the best Chinese buffet I've had! My father in law suggested it for dinner and we were very happy he did. Hubby liked the wings. My husband and I can't get enough of this place. Some months we're here atleast once a week. The buffet is always delicious and fair priced. We have not gone to Great Wall since the pandemic. Decided to try last night. They have changed a lot of their procedures along with the taste of the food. All food is given styrofoam cups, plates, and bowls. Utensils are individually wrapped plasticware. I always go for the soups first. Hot and Sour soup lacked the taste and textures you expect. Two pieces of tofu and one mushroom along with the egg. No layers of flavor in the broth. Egg drop soup was fluorescent yellow. I did not try the wonton soup as the two wontons were dry sitting in a little broth. Next, I tried the veggies. Green beans were a little overcooked. Brocolli with the "beef" was very mushy. I eat here quite a lot and really enjoy it. There are plenty of gluten free options, or nearly gluten free (I can handle soy sauce). My favorites are the baked fish, cold shrimp, hot & sour soup, salad bar, fresh pineapple, and beef & broccoli. There are also rice noodles with veggies which are gluten free. This is a buffet restaurant with no frills ambiance and a very american food heavy offering. I skipped the buffet and ordered takeout instead. Pros: The staff was friendly, particularly the young woman to took my order and took the time to make quick small talk. The crab rangoon were very full of crab and tasty albeit salty. Cons: The sesame chicken special included chicken which was sprinkled with sesame seeds but had no taste of sesame oil or any other nuanced flavors. Instead, it tasted nearly identical to slightly spicy ketchup, which surprised the heck out of me. From other places, sesame chicken usually has a lightly sweet and spicy sauce that features a sesame, ginger, garlic, vinegar mix or something more complex rather than a heavy handed corn syrup or sugar and tomato taste. The fried rice was burned, not to the eyes but to the mouth. It tasted as if something had burnt onto the grill top and been incorporated into the rice. I also ordered sauteed broccoli. It was fine. I cannot recommend the food here apart from the crab rangoon. read more

Favorite Chinese buffet in the area. In my experience, buffet trumps take-out. They have a good selection of food, pretty typical of any other Chinese buffet. This greasy joint has the worst Chinese food I've ever had! Yellow fried rice? I ordered shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp and green onions, I got greasy yellow rice with 5 tiny pieces of shrimp and just a few pieces of chopped green onion! I ordered shrimp egg foo young from the Great Wall, well done, extra crispy, It was mushy and tasteless with very little shrimp and the gravy is inedible! I think it was mostly bean sprouts, you need eggs to hold the patties together! Cheap management that serves you the minimal amount of more pricey ingredients, like seafood and meat! The food was alright, but the service was terrible. As with the food, there was a fair amount to choose from and it was not too greasy or salty. Regarding the service, I had to obtain my own drinks because the waitress did not come to our table until about twenty minutes after we were seated. Another issue that I had was with how the tables in the restaurant were placed. Well this was my third time eating at their buffet and I can safely say I never got sick out of those three visits. That's a definite plus in my book. With that out the way, I will say that this place is a no frills, less than average, Chinese buffet where you can get a quick fix of cheap Chinese into your stomach. Doesn't sound glamorous but for less that $10 it gets the job done. On the menu is your standard orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, white rice, non-existent "crab" rangoon, pot stickers (really they are gyoza style), lo mein noodles, mai fun (white rice noodles), egg foo young, pre packaged eggroll, beef broccoli, etc. It has, pretty much, all of your salty carbs, sub-standard-meats-drenched-in-sodium-high-sauce and greasy fried foods at your disposal. The salad bar I didn't bother looking at. Their deserts are laughingly pathetic which I'm not gonna bother going into but I will say that their soft serve vanilla ice cream coupled with their fried donuts really hits the spot. The drinks are self served. Washroom for men were surprisingly clean, wow!! The waitresses were just simply there to collect your finished plates and other refuse. After that, they would walk around aimlessly like robots looking for something to do or they'd just stand around with their peers staring and gawking at the other customers eating the substandard slop. The place is conveniently and I do stress "conveniently" 5 minutes away from my job. But I would never drive the 45 minutes just to eat over there. I can think of a few places that's 45 minutes away from from home that's worth the drive and this place is definitely not one of them. The 45 minutes is my regular commute to work. In conclusion, food was ok but not great. If you have a big or small family, this is a great place to over dose your loved ones' stomachs with sodium spiked Chinese and msg, all for a cheap price. For me , in the Kankakee area , this place is the best. The one thing about this place is that all the Americanized Chinese classics are there , and they're done well. Also one of the more consistent in terms of freshness and abundance of the food. I can also attest to the cleanliness of the kitchen , and store rooms , as I used to service this restaurant as an exterminator. Notice I didn't mention the bathrooms...little rough. read more
