Checked out this lively bar and grill in Chenoa. It certainly is one of the few happening places in this town. Brown Jug is where the locals get their drinking and eating on as well as watching games. Maybe it looks pretty ramshackle from the outside, but be assured it's also like that on the inside. The menu is mostly booze, but there's also burgers and various fried stuff. Basically it's one of the places in this town to gather. It's actually a lot nicer than many other places around here. That's not saying a lot. Of course it's possible to get some okay things to drink and eat. Pretty okay prices as far as things on the menu. It's got a lot of drink specials, and one was $3 for vodka so that was cool. Lots of fried and greasy food on the menu. It's about $6 for the Pretzel Bites. These might be the healthiest things to get here. Of course there's also burgers. There's also wings and meaty fried items. Even if it's nothing fancy it's a good place as far as around here. My son lives in the area and we always have to come here when we visit him. We love this bar. It reminds us of Cheers!! Always great bartenders and wonderful service. Prices are excellent and the food is always amazing. Keep in mind it is bar food but it is very good!! We recommend pretzel bites, jalapeño poppers, fried mushrooms and chicken wings!! So "Bob" is the guy at the grill.. He has things down... Tuesday's he does chicken, and everyday is different.. I plan on stopping by on Thursday, he has a different spin on onions ... but everything here is fresh, it may not be to your liking but it is fresh... hidden gem in plain sight. The Brown Jug located on the main strip in small town Chenoa IL - blink and you miss it (the town and the pub). Small menu choices but great prices and good food. Atmosphere is nice the bar (main part of what the Brown Jug is... Are bothe nice to look at and well built. The low tables a standard for cheaper end resturants. The Brown Jug also has an out seating area. Taco Wednesday (3 hard shell or 2 soft shell on $5.50) really a great deal and large portion. Not sure if there is a better day or time to go... The standard crowd (guessing) was very loud (like unnecessarily so) if we return it will need to be with nice weather and to sit outside. This is a non-descript exterior, but full of character inside. Full bar with typical bar fare. Food is good and reasonably priced. There is a patio in the back. Patrons around the bar were very loud. Waitress was friendly and very nice. Overall a nice bar if you're in the area. read more

Stopped here on the way back from ISU. It's a nondescript building right next to Casey's. Inside it has a small town bar feel and there were quite a few locals there for an event that was happening later. Brenda was our server - and the bartender too. We ordered burgers and chicken strips with fountain drinks (RC Cola). The burgers were really good. Lots of mushrooms on the mushroom Swiss burger. The chicken strips were hot and crunchy and perfect. Everything came with chips or crinkle cut fries. When the food arrived Brenda let us know it was going to get real busy in about a half hour - and if we need anything just yell real loud. I like Brenda. It's a good local place, off the beaten path with good food, good atmosphere and friendly service. I'd stop here again. read more

What a great little "hole in the wall" gem! My FAVORITE kind of find! It's next to the Casey's gas station, blink & you might miss it. Traveling back and forth to Chicago frequently, I cannot believe that I've unknowingly passed this place countless times. The outside may look a bit questionable, but the inside is clean with kitschy local decor (check out the old panoramic picture on the support beam) that makes you feel like you're hanging out with old friends. Every time I go here, I have a good time. Then again, every time I go anywhere I have a good time. It's located in convenient staggering distance from my cousin's house, which is nice. If only it would have been there when I lived there, although when I lived there I wasn't 21, so never mind. The last time I was here, was after Prairie Central's last wrestling match for state quarterfinals (or seminfinals, or something). Went in with the cousin Rob, his wife, and then met up with XG. That's probably why I had a good time. There's a limited selection of beer (hey, consider getting Triptych on tap, if that happens, i'll go up however often you need to change out kegs). So, when we were there last, they had a beer from Goose Island on tap, I don't remember which one it was, but it was a pale ale. It led to questions of "how can you drink that dark stuff?" and other similar things (the beer wasn't dark at all). I then went back and played the devil boxes and took them for about 300. So that was nice too. Then I sent a text to the staggering distance away cousin saying, go outside. She was rightly freaked out, because "BRYYYYCE what are you doing here?" when I knocked on her door; so we had a smoke and giggled for a while. Probably did 2 or 3 outside things laughing and catching up before I realized I had left 4 other people at the bar, and should get back to them. If you are big city people like me, this bar has the quaint home town feel (along with quaint home town prices). I had the same beer in CU for twice what I paid in Chenoa. It's the kind of place that they know everyone, and someone new is a surprise. In a town this size, that's what happens. When you explain you used to live a block that way (points north) they sort of figure out you are ok, even if you are weird looking. Then when you leave, they ask everyone in the bar "did you know him?" and your cousin is like "yeah, that's my cousin". If I ever go to Chenoa for anything other than the street dance, I wind up in here. It's an easy meet up space, located mere minutes away from everyone who lives in town. But then, everything is mere minutes away... even if you are walking. read more

We've eaten here several times. We stopped Monday night on the way home from a basketball game. Had a variety of food and it was all delicious. Wings, hot ham and cheese, grilled Chicken salad and chicken strips! Beer was cold, too! read more
