So tasty w a great sauce to go with it with fried shallots makes it a salad game changer . I also just recently tried the asparagus in a soy garlic sauce . The asparagus was cooked perfectly, still had a bit of crunch, would definitely get again. Also tried the loaded tots not on regular menu but offered during happy hour- these were topped with an egg and had spicy mayo drizzled with pork belly on top! Yum! This place was hands-down. The best restaurant I have found in the area. The atmosphere was very quaint and quiet. The servers were very attentive. The drinks were fun. The warm saki was good. Hands-down, the best thing on the menu is the pork belly. Anything with the pork belly in it is a winner. I also really liked their sushi options. They had a lot on the menu that were very, very good. We ended up having the Ube cheesecake because it came highly recommended from the weight staff. In my mind, I had already assumed this would be a try-hard modernized Asian restaurant, "fusion" serving as an indication that they are untraditional and probably Americanized. After perusing the menu, though, it looks like it was a fun fusion of multiple Asian dishes, Japanese, Korean and Filipino included. I excitedly ordered the Mango Lemonade and Adobo Fried Rice. It was delicious!! As a Filipino, this is a dish my parents would cook at least once a month when I was growing up. MORA's version was a cozy meal that gave me a taste of home. Well done! At the end of the meal, our waiter asked us if we've ever tried Ube before. I said it had been years since I've had Ube ice cream and my friend hadn't even heard of it before. He then came back with 2 bowls of Ube ice cream for us to try, on the house. I wish I could remember the waiter's name, because he really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience, even before the free ice cream! Our favorite local sushi spot! My husband and I first checked out Mora about a year ago upon moving into the area and have been coming back ever since. The quality has always been the same and that is a necessity when going out for sushi! This time around we went towards the end of happy hour and ordered a few things off that menu: spicy shrimp & salmon roll, along with the lumpia & $8 wine pours. Even the more basic rolls are very fresh and flavorful. The lumpia was incredibly crispy while also light and flaky- I'm pretty sure we finished them in under two minutes. We stayed past happy hour & ended up ordering the fire roll as well. SO yummy, definitely recommend from their signature roll menu. It's a smaller place which makes the atmosphere feel special and intimate. So glad to have found this little gem and will be back every time the sushi craving hits!! read more

These were 2 outstanding items followed by mediocrity when the rolls arrived. The cocktail list looks fun, but the drink I wanted (Jazmin) they were out of. They were also out of the grilled eggplant, which we substituted the king mushrooms for. The restaurant is nicely decorated inside and provided an intimate and pleasant atmosphere. I've been a loyal customer of Mora Asian Fusion for years, but my recent visit was incredibly disappointing. The edamame was cold, and the Crispy 8 Shrimp Roll was mostly rice with very little shrimp (half of a pinky nail) The service was also subpar. When my wife and I expressed our dissatisfaction with the food, the server seemed uninterested and simply stated they would inform the owner. Despite our concerns, the owners never came to our table to address the issue. Instead, we overheard them snickering as we left the restaurant. To top it off, I was given the wrong change when I paid for our meal. If you value your hard earned money, I would highly suggest you spend it elsewhere. I've now gone to More twice, and both times the food was phenomenal! The first time my husband and I went on a Saturday night before Valentine's Day and the wait was not too long with considering we didn't make a reservation. The waitress, Briana, was awesome! She answered all of our questions about dishes and made good suggestions as well. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night, but would also be good for a friends night out as well. The only thing I was disappointed in with the Ube cake. It was beautiful, but lacked the flavor the rest of the evening brought. The second time I went back with a friend for lunch, and the food was excellent again! We will definitely be visiting again to try more items off of the menu. read more

We had a party of 3, and a reservation, but we were sat at a table that was really meant for 2 people....one of our party sat on a stool, and it was difficult to have more than a couple plates on the table. The food was good, fish was fresh & tasty. Edamame says it's "truffle" but not a drop of any truffle flavor on them; but they were hot & perfectly salted Service was just okay and the reason for only giving them 3 stars..... we were dying for dessert & the server never even asked if we wanted anything, so we went elsewhere. Dang it! The one time I forget to check in on Yelp and there's a deal. 4th time here. Great every time. The best things we like are the honey walnut shrimp (best I've ever had anywhere), kale & Brussels sprouts salad (INCREDIBLE and lovely large portion for two), Korean wings, and Lil Piggy roll. Skip the orange chicken skewers; tastes like real orange but a bit overdone and small portion for the price. Pancit noodles are very good but the extra $3 for two bits of pork belly not worth it; the sausage in it is plenty and nicer. Cocktails are very good if pricey. Excellent service. Sitting outside was nice but benches aren't super comfy and maybe fans or candles to keep the flies away from the yummy food would be good. They have recently changed the menu to be more efficient I'm told, but they have removed popular items from the menu that were great dishes, not if it is or management/executive cook. However i ordered the California roll which only comes with 5 very small rolls. I had hair in my miso soup and I definitely wouldn't suggest ordering the Adobe fried rice. The fried rice tasted horrible it was not cooked enough or very over cooked. It had no taste. This has been the worse experience. I would be going somewhere else to order sushi. read more

I will preface my review by saying, the food was passable. We ordered a few small plates, and several sushi rolls. All of the dishes came out at different times. We were still being served small plates when the entrees were arriving. The waiter spilled a bowl of edamame on one of our party and threw down a bit of napkins and asked us to clean it up. The orders were mixed up and when we confronted management about the experience they did nothing. The owner comped no food but the bowl of edamame that was spilled. Totally disappointed! This restaurant is in a great location. I assume this is considered downtown of Plainfield. Great area for shopping, sitting outside at any one of their local restaurants and people watching. I picked this place because I saw some great reviews. When we arrived they had 2 tables of customers sitting outside, no one at the bar when you walk in and one table in the restaurant area. Perfect! Not too busy for 7pm and we should get in and out. Looked like a host, bartender and two additional servers working. The bartender ended up being our server. Took about 10 min for him to greet us. No soda (they were out of Pepsi products). We ordered a beer and I a glass of wine. We then ordered two salads and our meals. I ordered a sushi roll and my husband ordered some Sashimi. 10 min later we got his Sashimi? Which was his main course. Salads trailed 15 min after he got his meal? We ate the salads, after 20 more min. I asked our server (bartender) who was clearly too busy to help us, if he actually put my roll in. He said, "I think so, pretty sure I did, should be out soon." It's now 40 min and 3 people sat at the bar, and 3 more tables in the restaurant. He was clearly two busy to help us. No roll ever came, we finally realized we were not gonna get service and got up to request our ticket from Host. Bartender apologizes about the order and hands me a bill for $98???? I look at it and he charged me for a bottle of wine. Had to get that fixed. My husband takes me to Chipotle so I can get something for dinner. Which was clearly not what I wanted for dinner. I went to this place for the first time tonight and look at how dark the tuna was on the outside because it wasn't at the right temperature/fresh. This wasn't the only thing wrong with my tuna roll. My tuna roll did not include Cucumber, that gives it that crunch. Only avocado so it was a mush of a roll. I wish I had more stars to give!! Finally made it out to this little gem of a restaurant. I noticed it a few months ago and was not sure about the Asian fusion style, so I always passed it up. I was craving something different last night and at 7 pm I called them to ask if they still had reservations available for the night. They gave me an 8 pm which was perfect! Walked in to a small bar area and was greeted by a server walking by with food and then by the host, think his name was Jordan. Jordan was very welcoming and told me my table was ready. We walked to the back and I was pleasantly surprised with the look of the place. Modern, hip and background music was perfect. The dinner menu and the drink menu has a lot to offer. Many delicious sounding choices. We ordered the Adobo pork belly, salmon, tiger shrimp, green beans, seaweed salad and a sushi roll called the Hammer. When I say everything was delicious, I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious!!! Every dish was full of flavor and so fresh!! The seating was kind of tight and I did not want to be rude and start with the pictures, and honestly I just wanted to dig in. My favorite dish was the salmon, cooked perfectly, very simple but so delicious! The green beans with the sausage were also amazing. If I could I would go back for dinner tonight. They have many other dishes I have to check out. Service was just ok. Our server was not around much and I sat with an ebony water glass for a while but the food was so good that I can over look that. If you live near by, this place is a must!! LOCKED UP Do you know this beautiful restaurant use to be the jail? If prison looked and tasted this delicious, then everyone would be trying to get in. It's really easy to find a crowd here because the food at Mora is really good. This location is about to celebrate their fourth year in business. I've eaten at the other two locations: Bolingbrook and Oak Park. The food is always fantastic. This was my first time dining at this location. I started out my meal with a great craft cocktail. I'm not sure of the name but it was a smoked mezcal cocktail. The bartender used a smoking gun to actually infuse the smoke into the drink. The cocktail was beautiful as the smoke billowed out of the glass. I think everyone was a little jealous of my unique cocktail. For my meal I went with the Pancit noodles. I've had this dish many times before at other restaurants and this is the best I've ever had it prepared. The dish comes with lap cheong sausage, shrimp, carrots, napa cabbage, bok choy & canton egg noodles. I also decided to add a crispy pork belly on top. All I can say it was the best decision I made all week. The pork was crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. There's two ways of getting Pork belly. The wrong way and the right way. The Chef here at Mora cook's it to perfection. The meat will literally melt in your mouth. All of the flavors of the dish were fantastic and the shrimp was incredibly fresh. I'd order this dish again and again. I'm totally hooked. Right before we ordered we smelled an incredible entree as the waiter walked by. We asked what it was and we were told it was the crunchy brussels & kale salad. The salad is made with with crispy Brussel sprouts, kale, carrots, cabbage, jalapeños, onions, chiles, fried shallot & sweet chili sauce. Trust me when I say that these aren't your Mom's boiled bland Brussel sprouts. These are going to knock your socks off. Our table also ordered the salmon miso carpaccio made with salmon, miso lemon sauce, ginger and micro greens. I didn't order this dish but it looked beautiful. The plate was also visually appealing and looked like art. We all eat with our eyes and from the looks of the dish this is a real winner. I wish I could have ordered more food off of the menu but then I would have needed a nap. Next time I come back here, I'm going to get the honey shrimp and the lumpia. The honey shrimp has tempura shrimp tossed in a creamy honey aioli with candied walnuts, over slaw. It's a delicious dish. The Lumpia is a traditional filipino egg roll that is stuffed w/ ground pork, carrots & garlic served with lettuce and a sweet chili dipping sauce on side. It's the perfect dish to share. I have had these two dishes at their other two locations, so I highly recommend them. So if you haven't been to Mora, then what are you waiting for. This place delivers quality ingredients. Every dish and cocktail is crafted with love and that's the first step when making incredible food. HISTORY BONUS: I wanted to learn a little more about the history of this building. I first learned that the original town of Plainfield had a couple of major fires in the 1880's and 1890's which seriously changed the building codes to using brick in all future buildings. I also found a form that was submitted to the 'National Register of Historic Places' Registration Form submitted on August 2, 2013 to the National Park Service. 24108 ( 609) Lockport Street - Contributing Architect/Builder: Date: c.1899, rearc.1912 Architectural Style: Commercial Italianate Historic Name: Plainfield Jail and Fire Department Current Name/Use: Vacant Originally the site of the Plainfield Village Hall and Jail, the current building was constructed about 1899 to serve as a new jail with room for some fire equipment. A new Village Hall and Fire Department was constructed across the street (demolished). It is the only extant historic Plainfield government building. It is a one story brick building with an Italianate-inspired pressed metal cornice. The cornice has ornamented end brackets with courses of dentils and corbels in between. The original opening has been infilled with a modem storefront, but retains its original steel beam with rosettes. An original double hung window with a flat brick arch completes the fa9ade treatment. Both side elevations are exposed and built of Chicago common brick and are without fenestration. About 1912, a rear addition was added to expand the jail. The Plainfield Police Department was formally established in 1940 and was housed in the building until 1977. I love when we can take a building and give it new life. Americans love wrecking buildings and building newer buildings. I hate that. I love the history and knowing the fact that this building may have started as a jail in 1899 and now in 2020 its an incredible Asian Restaurant. When asked to clear the tables they felt in convenienced and we interrupted their social time. The bus boy could only serve water and clean tables. When we did have him come and clear a plate he dumped some of the stuff on the table and he was like put that on the plate so I can take it. The food runner that gave us new plates put both plates in front of my husband- how do you not place the plates in front of each person. This is basic service etiquette- restaurant 101. We wanted to try someplace new as many of our favorite places are not open on Monday, but my husband wanted to take me out on my actual birthday... we should have tried anywhere else but here. When we arrived, there were a few people seated outside but we asked for a table inside. They had one table available - because there were 6 tables filled with dirty dishes. This was around 7pm. my first thought was that people mush have just left. We were seated and pulled out our phones to scan the QR code to see the menu. We decided on a few rolls, some edamame and two of their signature drinks. We sat there with our decision made for at least 15 minutes - without being greeted by our server or any member of the staff. Finally at around 7:15/7:20 we placed our full order and were given two glasses of water. Oh, and all those dirty tables- still dirty. We sat drinking our water waiting for our drinks to come. We saw others in the restaurant being served drinks but ours had yet to come nor did we see our server to ask if they had forgot. We were served our edamame with only one bowl- everywhere else they give you a second bowl to discard the pods. But still no drinks and empty glasses of water. 7:45 - a full 45 minutes after we were seated - we finally received our drinks. They were very tasty... until there was a small gnat or fly in my husbands drink. Immediately we lost our appetites. I felt bad about cancelling and getting the check so we figured that hopefully this will be redeemed with the quality of the food. We received our rolls- the Summer Roll and Kiss of Fire rolls were very good. A little out of the ordinary but good. The roll I was looking forward to the most was the Little Piggy - but I was severely disappointed. There was no bacon jam, chili flakes or sauce. It looks like they forgot to put the "toppings" on the roll completely. But we couldn't even tell anyone - we just wanted to leave at this point. Hands down this was one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences of my life. Perhaps Friday the 13th was to blame... Myself and a girlfriend were there celebrating our birthdays. Started out great. We were 10 minutes early to our Opentable reservation and the host "apologized for the delay" when he had to clear a table. We were early! Not their fault! We quickly ordered a bottle of wine after sitting. When it was brought over, the server simply placed it on the table and walked away. The bottle was already opened and it appeared to be missing some wine. So much so, that it caught the attention of the tables on both sides of us. We were encouraged to question it...and did. Another server said "they all look that way, I'll bring over another bottle to prove it." Well, five minutes later he returned, confidently confirmed it was right, but showed no example. Well, one table next to us decided they wanted to order the same bottle. It was good, after all, and they only have about 10 bottles of wine on the menu to choose from. I don't know what I was hoping for. A quarter empty bottle or a full one...but sure enough there's came out unopened and completely full. So, we questioned again and the confident server (who the surrounding tables had nicknamed "three quarters") was all flustered, took away BOTH bottles of wine, then came back blaming the bartender. He eventually brought back the bottles, and they poured us a glass from the house bottle to make up for it. Our server also stated she would comp the ($40) bottle of wine. Meanwhile, we received the gyoza and 3 rolls we ordered, but not without a hitch. One roll was listed as 8 pieces on the menu and came out as 5. After finally flagging down our server, our food was taken away, and brought back...and confidently confirmed that the menu was wrong, 5 pieces is correct "because of the way it's cut" (isn't all sushi cut the same??). So. We were lied to about our wine, had to pour our own glasses, and our sushi (or the menu...) was wrong. On top of that, we never got water refills, had to flag down a server when we needed one, AND the restaurant cancelled our Opentable reservation so we never got the points. I SHOULD give 1 star. This is absolutely no way for customers to be treated. But, the food was excellent. I don't know if I would return for fear of another similar experience. read more
