I was really hoping to like this place based on numerous recommendations. My biggest gripe is portion for price. NYC prices may be okay if the portions made sense. Asked for "well done" but still got more chewy than crunch/crisp. Had high hopes but it just fell short on all dishes we tried across the board. The Brian Parma pizza was on par with pizzas I've had in Italy (notice the light touch of lemon zest), the tartufo pasta was rich flavorful and generous, the grilled artichokes were grilled to perfection with olive oil, lemon juice and aoili. That being said, prices are steep, especially the grilled artichoke at 21$. We paid 100$ for on starter, one pizza, one pasta and a soft drink. STEEP. This is my go to place when I am up here every weekends. Even people I bring up here want to come back. Today unfortunately I was quite disappointed. My wife and I were the first customer in before it was fully seated and the last one to order food. We were left a water bottle on the table while everyone else was poured. Otherwise food was like usual WONDERFUL. we feel like there is no manager in the store. Hopefully next time we can have better experience. This place is such a great option for a cozy meal in Kingston! We stopped by for lunch in their covered and heated patio which is also pet friendly! Indoors there is a large pizza oven that makes the space feel so homey. Service was quick and we ordered a couple dishes to share: Stracciatella - Everyone says to get this and though it's delicious you need to know what you're getting into. It's the same dough as their pizza and super filling so I'd treat it as a mini pizza or side instead of an appetizer. Tiger Paw - Amazing and loaded with toppings. I love how fluffy their crust is without being too thick or thin. Not spicy at all and a perfect balance with the cheese and pepperoni. Carbonara - Super yummy combination with malfadine pasta that really carries the sauce well and the addition of mushrooms to make the pasta even more umami. Loved this twist on the dish. No clue why this place doesn't have better reviews. I just had dinner here with a friend and both of us were so happy with our experience. The service right off the bat 5/5, I asked our waitress to space out the meals because I'm picky about the timing and sequence my food comes out in. I made sure we started with the kale Cesar and Arancinis which were both AMAZING. then we were served the rigatoni which I was between ordering and the carbonara and the waitress immediately said "order the rigatoni it's a staff favorite right now" so we did. FANTASTIC the portion size was also just great, not too much, not too little. We ended with a margarita pizza which was perfectly cooked, not sure why some reviews say it's burnt or undercooked, ours definitely was not either. It had a very satisfying crunch actually throughout the whole pie. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. Once again, a nice evening. I run a local vacation rental and send my guests to my favorite places in Kingston. Lola is among them. The food is always good and the menu has evolved to include lots of options which is great. Service can be uneven at times but I know loads of places struggle with staffing since COVID. But the best food on the planet loses its appeal quickly if the staff are inattentive or not well trained and experienced. Especially at premium prices, and for pizza, Lola is on the high end. Standouts on the staff for us are Rachel on the floor and Vlad at the bar. Professional, pleasant and friendly, they always make me feel welcome and like they are glad to see us. Rachel is present and takes her work very seriously, and Vlad cranks out cocktails quickly even when the dining room and bar are full. I hope Lola can hang onto these two stars. Had dinner at Lola Pizza on Sunday evening to conclude our upstate vacation. While leaving NYC for pizza may not always be advisable, this place has a lot to offer. It is a massive space, spanning what felt like three separate storefronts. They have you enter through an enclosed outdoor patio, which I am sure is a popular spot in warmer months. The first dining area is small, and includes a wood fire oven. I assume this was the original location. We were led through a massive kitchen and into a second dining space, which looked like a former coffee shop. Tables were very spread out, but each one filled with guests. Fun records, played in the background, lots of disco. Crowd: Reservations recommended, we were lucky to grab a table even at an odd time on Sunday evening. Service: Lots of staff making the rounds. Perhaps they took a hit during the covid years when no one was ever happy or satisfied and that's why the reviews and rating don't reflect actual current experience. True rating is 4.1 or a one bite score of 8.2. I rounded it up because I feel they have an unjust lower score then they deserve. It's the wood fire thin crust style. You know, 18 bucks for a pie and a small person can demolish the whole thing and still be hungry. If you enjoy that style of pizza then you won't be disappointed and they have plenty of varieties and toppings to make the hippest hipster happy. I am consistently disappointed by Rice balls everywhere I go. This place figured it out. Definitely worth a try. If you don't like rice balls it might not change your mind but you won't hate it either. Inside is small so in winter months it can crowd up quickly especially on weekends. It's definitely a fun place to grab drinks at the bar and get an app. However, the drinks the night I went were pretty strong and not very enjoyable to drink IMO. We ordered the Lola colada and the strawberry cocktail. For food we ordered the stracciatella for an app and tiger paw and brat pack for pizzas. The app was just ok reminded me of a cooked pita. Cheese sauce with the stracciatella was like a rich creamy ricotta that tasted like sour cream (caution sensitive stomachs!). The pizza I wasn't really impressed with couldn't really taste the sauce and they both were really burnt - maybe its just me, but even if it's wood fired it should not be that burnt?!? The tiger paw did have some flavor due to the pepperoni and chili honey toppings but same deal with the sauce and crust. We ended up seeing our friends there and their pasta dishes looked amazing (cacio e Pepe & rigatoni alla norma). I may be back to try them, but not the pizza.
