La Florentina changed hands. Been a while since we ate there. Now, Food isn't as well prepared as under old owners. For example, the baked Ziti was a mountain of Zita and of cheese, all thrown into a big bowl. Gravy: Hard to detect a taste--garlic? Not evident. basilico? Barely. Baked Ziti was a stable in our Bx. Italian home. So, I may be too exacting. Em beh Pizza was also not well prepared. Here, the pie was drowning in garlic. Service: OK. Ambiance: Very Hot due to the HUGE oven in main dining room. I'm just glad Lucia ( Mia mama) wasn't with us- she would have wanted to instruct, and re-instruct the chef. give it another try? Forse, ma ci vorrà un po' di tempo. read more

It's been here a long time for a reason. Nice service, lovely wood fired pizza. A comfortable seating area with room to have conversations. All in all a good experience and good pizza in a small place you could easily drive by without noticing. read more

Great Service and Amazing food! The price is very reasonable and the portions are perfect.

La Florentina, knock me over with a feather! The Owner, a gorgeous lady & soul. I told her, I don't have a credit card today, I do have cash & I love your food I'm seeing. A very big craving for the dishes swept over me, like a tsunami! A delicious tsunami of love cooked into the food. Great ingredients! I can taste them all. Back to Owner & her daughter, another Beauty! I'm beginning again. Hi. I met angels today! Yes I did! They Are Real. Yup! Between the Kindness of the Owner & her daughter, I'm returning from heavenly right now. She told me, she would try to get a food delivery to me & voila! She took some thoughtfulness, kindness & generosity from her heart & soon, my doorbell rings. Yup. I met her daughter next. I didn't know! I called her mom, "My angel!" She smiled & said, "That's my mom." I said, "You're both incredibly lucky & blessed." She smiled again, dazzling & said, "I know I am." Now, here, please note. Yes, she brought me my food. I asked if the next time she was in my hood, if she'd mind dropping me off a menu. She smiled as she left. "No problem!" About 5 bites later, my doorbell rings again. It was Dazzling angel. She has a pizza box & Menu in her hands. She said, "I forgot to bring you our Bread. I'm sorry. Here's our Menu & there are new items on it." Really my speedy brain jumps ahead to? OMG! More deliciousness to chose from?! Holy moly. She handed both to me, I opened pizza box & think I passed out! Face in Bread. Yumm. "No, I'm good. You go on ahead. Thanks tho lol." No! I'm Not suggesting that you have my week, nor my "luck"! No. I'm not saying that La Florentina can, nor should, nor would be capable of doing all this, all the time or even once again. But, holy freakin, try the food here! WoW! Yumm I ordered way too much food, leftovers. Yay! Thank goodness! Chicken in Mushroom Sauce. I'm gonna try including pics, but. Yea, well..... we shall see. Perfect! It's light, while filling. The flavors, partially due to great Ingredient Sourcing, partially cause food is prepared with love & of course, because putting chicken, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms & spinach over penne-Genius! It's Delicious! Bread. Like Focaccia, but more better imo! Besides being as light as air & as delicious as a dream. Yea. It's ok lol. Freakin Delish! Eggplant Rollatini. Spelling? sorry. Eggplant, mine was stuffed with mozzarella cheese & had some chicken stuffed inside too. The red sauce, gravy, tomato sauce-all same thing btw, in American - Italian speak, Outstanding. Is there such a thing as Simple & Complex, concurrently? Now there is! I got so lost in the gravy, I forgot what I was eating! My mind drifted sideways, to Florence, Venice, Rome & other places I've lived in & visited, in Italy. The flavors in this, the taste, that's what did this to me! It tastes like Home, childhood & happiness-all smooshed together! I'm about to cry now. Get it together Jolie! Ok! sorry. Tiramisu-Yup. I said it! OMG! I've been fantasizing about 2 things for a while now. Ok, maybe 4 lol. Hush you plz lol. I ordered 2 pieces! "Of course you did Jolie!" Yup! 1 for now & the other for breakfast! Yup & try it for breakfast, see how good your willpower is sometime, before ya knock it please. Holy moly this is Good. Every flavor Balances. I'm not kidding! It's just perfect is all. Yup. Great Jolie! Now there won't be any left for you anymore. That's ok. I share. Now for easy, but probably my hard fail part. Bringing in the pics! In zero way do my photos here (I hope they come. My pics. Hello lol) represent the incredible foods here. Just a "try" on my part. Overall, I can't Believe it's taken me this long, to find La Florentina! What is wrong with me?! Holy hell Batman?! Thank You Ladies, for making my heart so full, I cried happy tears from all of your kindness-es. Thank you for the love you infuse into your foods! I couldn't stop eating & now I'm waddling around like I'm pregnant. Food baby. I genuinely couldn't stop my hand from putting another bite into my mouth & another. Meanwhile , I'm moaning at being Soo way full. I'm laughing & feeling kinda-out of body. I finally had to grab my right hand, with my left & hold it down! The food is that good! I'm not joking. I'm glad you're laughing! You Know! Now I'm laughing too. Thank You for that! When a restaurant's food, evokes not only childhood tastes & memories, (clearly this makes me biased) & tastes this amazing. Well, you follow your own star please. I'm staying right here thank you. Ladies, I'm stunned, delighted & so full of delightful goodness! If I say thank you, to you both, for the rest of my Life, 1,000 times a day, it will never be enough to me! Thank You Angels! From my heart this one. Hugs to you both. Honored here. With love & hugs. Jolie Lives read more

While returning from Hunter Mountain we tried pizzas in La Florentina. We were surprised by the Margherita pizza. It was super flavorful with the right thickness in the crust. We loved the cherry tomatoes on the top, the only thing that we would have liked was the fresh mozzarella, but that's just a personal preference. 5/5 on the pizza. read more

I have been a long time patron of La Florentina, located in Kingston NY. I have tried a variety of dishes, all of them without exception have been good to excellent. A number of years ago, the original owners sold this establishment, the quality of the food went from excellent to good. On my recent visit I decided to order chicken parmesian, and a bowl of lentil soup. My partner ordered the vegetable lasagna, both were generous servings. Much to my disappointment, the tomato sauce covering both the chicken and vegetable lasagna had little flavoring and had that canned tomato sauce flavor. The cheese covering the chicken parm. was inferior in taste as well as the veg. Lasagna. The only item that I would highly recommend is the lentil soup, that was delicious along with the amazing hot pizzetta (puffy) bread that came with the meal. In regard to service, I would give it a fair rating, our waitress neglected to serve the hot bread which we had to get up and walk over to the service counter ourselves before it got cold. The waitress never offered an apology for her forgetfullness. I can say with regret that I will not be eating there again nor would I recommend anyone to eat there. G.T. read more

La Florentina Restaurant - Mauceri Pizza & Margherita Pizza - Italian Near Me - Kingston, New York

A year ago I came here with Wifey, my son, and my sister-in-law and had a very good meal. I had Fettuccini Alfredo, Wifey had a ham and spinach calzone, and we got two wood fired pizzas - the Metalazuna and a Margherita. Pleasant meal, great service, and we left full and having had a nice experience. Last night we went back and had a much different experience. This time we ordered two Margherita pies, one metalazuna, and one gluten free puttanesca. We did get there a bit late, but with plenty of time before closing. We were seated in the back room and given menus...and we waited...and waited...and waited for the server to come take our drink order. By the time she came back we were ready to order our food and our drinks. We put in our orders and when she brought our appetizers (focaccia and bruschetta) she still hadn't brought our drinks. By the time our pizza came there were still two people without drinks and when we pointed it out she walked away in a huff. The Margherita pizzas were very good, but the other two were underdone and soggy in the middle. I KNOW this place makes good pizza and it's one of the few places my niece can get a decent gluten free crust, but this visit was NOT good. I'm sure we'll be here again...hopefully it's more like our first visit. read more

Hands down the best moderately priced pizza and pasta place in the Kingston area and possibly the entire Hudson Valley. I'm a pizzaiola and have very fussy taste. This place gets me excited every time. Interesting, traditional Italian choices. The decor, wine selection and service are mediocre but they are not the reasons to come here. The aroma from the wood fired oven (in the middle of the dining room!) is amazing. It is like a warm hug from your favorite relative the second you walk in the door. Go on a crisp fall evening and get the Mauceri pizza with mushroom sauce if you're adventurous, the Panzerotti if you are a meat lover. Maybe bring your own bottle of red. Their pesto is out of this world, with subtle lemon zest and very high quality olive oil. You'll spend more at Savona's and get a great meal, but this diamond in the rough will wow you every time. Never had a mediocre pizza here and the HV is full of mediocre pizza. I see from the reviews they had a rough patch a year or so ago, but this is definitely over. I wasn't eating in restaurants then, so I can't weigh in on that. We can forgive a rough patch during the pandemic! read more

Imagine ordering a pizza for pick up being quoted 25 mins. Get there in about 20 mins pay and told my food will be out soon an hour goes by still no pizza. I ask about it and question a refund after pushing the blame on another employee and not making it right I was refunded and left after an hour and a half with no pizza. I would highly avoid this place if you pick food up on you're way home from work. read more

We came into town and wanted Italian, the restaurant we were going to go to closed early so we checked out this place... It's understated, but the food is awesome. We sat down and they brought us an incredible flat bread with the perfect amount of spices!! The della casa salad and it was perfect... you will love the salad and we shared it with three people and there was enough to go around. The pasta and pizza were awesome as well and the wine prices are very very reasonable! I would recommend it to anyone looking for date night or a family dinner! read more

La Florentina Restaurant - a neon sign for a restaurant - Italian Near Me - Kingston, New York

Food is really fresh and delicious. Large portions and friendly service. I had shrimp and angel hair pasta with olive oil and feta and it was so tasty. My son had fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which he loved. The neopolotine calzone was huge. Minestrone soup was amazing. Don't be scared away by the exterior, it is in a strip mall and looks drab but Inside is clean and nice and you can smell the wood burning oven. read more

Decent not great Italian food. Good people and nice location but the food is just average. There are better options for good Italian.

We went back, as promised. And this time, as promised, I paid more attention to the rest of the menu. This time I kind of wish we had a giant group, because there was so much I wanted to try! Next time I'm getting a pasta dish, damnit! I really might put this place on my last meal list. Prepare yourself, I'm gonna rave. We decided to skip the appetizers, they looked like standard issue apps and we decided we'd chance dessert instead. We ordered a chicken Dijon pizza and a calzone. The pizza was phenomenal. Big as a dinner plate, large pieces of perfectly cooked chicken, roasted peppers, fresh spinach, whole roasted garlic cloves...the crust was thin, crispy on the bottom but still soft and chewy, held up ALL THOSE TOPPINGS and was mighty delicious itself. The calzone had loose crumbles of (house made!) sausage, Genoa salami, roasted peppers and ricotta. Extra info here: I'm not a fan of ricotta or most sausage. DIVINITY ON A PLATE. Seriously, there was not a drop of grease in that calzone, the crust/shell was delicious and crispy, the sausage was delicious. And the sauce.....my husband actually said "do you want me to look away when you drink that?" Yeah, it was good. He got cheesecake for dessert, which I had a bite of though I don't care for cheesecake (I was trying to determine if it was frozen) and it was good, he raved about it! I had a cannoli, which was pretty good size, shell was crispy, filling was cinnamoned. The filling was a little gritty for my liking but still delicious. Really, I don't think we could love this place more. He had a beer and our bill before tip was $40. We NEVER eat out for $40! It was glorious. read more

I'm just traveling through the area and was craving a real wood fired pizza. So I asked a lady in downtown historic in Kingston where I should eat. And she recommended this place that was a little off the beaten path from downtown Kingston. First of all, it's in a strip mall - which I was pleasantly surprised as I walked in how beautifully Italian it was decorated! Ordered a salad and the Margherita Pizza. No I am by no means a pizza connoisseur but my favorite pizza is a margarita and I have had many in my travels. This one is by far the very best I have ever had! Big chunks of delicious tomatoes, Mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, the perfect amount of spices and garlic, and the best crust I think I have ever had. I don't live anywhere near here, but I will make sure I travel through again to get this! read more

I got take out and was sorely disappointed The bruschetta was good. The chicken parm had no cheese very weird. And the house salad was just horrible. Big chunks of brown celery. Very distasteful dressing and tomatoes that weren't nearly ripe when it's tomato season. Very disappointed read more

I came here with my family twice while I was living in Upstate NewYork and This place is Hands down, the best casual Italian joint The Hudson Valley! They use a wood burning stove oven for their Pizza and wow! It gives such a unique taste and texture! Three Mushroom Pizza. It has fresh basil, home made mozzarella cheese, white mushrooms, Balsamic Portabella mushrooms and a Porcini mushroom sauce. Sunday night.. 7:30.. walk in.. not greeted until the guy making pizzas smiles and tells us to take any seat. 6-tables are currently seated.. 3-booths dirty. We sit at a dirty booth because we have a 7yo and it's easier and I'm a waitress so don't mind. 2-waitresses are on the floor... 1-table leaves; so now there's only 5... waitress drops off menus and says "someone will be right with you"... We sit for over 10 minutes and no one acknowledges us. I work in a VERY busy restaurant... there were 2-servers on and 5-tables!! This should not have happened. We walked out. I give more than the benefit of the doubt to servers... but this was just pathetic. read more

I really enjoyed this Spinach Florentine Pizza. It was all fresh veg and fresh mozzarella, spinach, black cured olives, chunk tomatoes, fire roasted peppers, and large roasted shrimp. All this on a hand toss thin crust roasted in a wood stove. I enjoyed what I consider a homemade type of pizza cooked the old fashion way in a wood burning stone oven with all the freshest ingredients. I would go back here and eat again. I did like the quaint atmosphere and they do serve wine. read more

Hands down the best and most interesting pizza in Kingston. And I've tried them all. The menu is elevated Italian/American cuisine and I do mean elevated. Look at the menu and you'll see many familiar dishes, but don't let that stop you from trying them. You'll find something about each one that makes you smile and crave it again. This place lives and breaths quality and is a hidden gem. The food is always excellent, the service very friendly, the ambiance lovely. And the smell and warmth of that wood fired oven is the bomb in the middle of winter. My regret is that I lived in the area for seven years before I tried it. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but since that first experience we've been back regularly and will continue to do so. read more

After all the reviews we read we decided to drive from New Paltz to this place and we were very disappointed. I ordered a gluten free pizza which was probably frozen to begin with. The toppings were just tossed on it. There is an after taste lingering in my mouth. The regular pizza my companion had was just as bad. We should have skipped it when we saw in the menu that a Margherita pizza had provolone on it. I wonder if the pizzas were fried rather than baked. Revolting pizzas. read more

I chose this restaurant off of Yelp while heading to upstate New York. The wife & I chose the Vegetarian Appetizer Plate which came with what I at first thought was a party balloon but once it cooled realized it was bread for the various veggie assortments that did not fail to surprise. Our main selection was the 3-Mushroom Pizza. Having frequented California Pizza Kitchen I thought I knew what to expect, but alas, again I was not even in the ball park as this tasty mushroom melody was a home run, past the stands, into the parking lot. On a scale of 1-10, it was a 13, order with caution it may ruin your Pizza expectations at other establishments for life!! See Photos. I'm sorry I am bound by law to give no greater than five stars, though more were deserved. read more

Two years after my first review and I'm still a big fan of La Florentina. I have expanded my food choices to include"La Florentina" calzone. The pizza still is consistently great. Ok, here's the deal on this place-the outside looks drab and old, but the inside and food are great! It's located in a strip mall and the awning is well-aged, so my husband and I having lived in the area for about 10 years have passed it up. We have become tired of the same old restaurants we have often frequented and have been trying out others in the area. Friday night being our regular pizza night, we agreed to give La Florentina a shot. Driving into parking lot at 6:30, it was packed, a good sign! We were promptly seated, dining area was very clean. And the woodfire oven center stage was a nice addition. We opted for the Caesar salad and the margarita pizza. The salad was dressed well-not my husband's favorite as it had a bit the traditional anchovy flavor, but in my opinion, I thought it was good. The pizza came out shortly thereafter, it was excellent. We both agreed that we would be back again, and soon. There are a couple of wood fire pizza places in the area, some that look great, but the pizza is overpriced and not good quality. This is a looks can be deceiving type of place, but as two people originally from downstate, we know good pizza, and you will not be disappointed. read more

I mostly come here for the pizza. I consider myself a pizza expert. I think I've eaten a half million slices in my day. This little restaurant has the best wood-fired Margarita pizza in the Hudson Valley. It's the best and freshest you'll get here in this area. Thin crisp crust, good sauce and quality cheese... none of that "pizza cheese" crapola. They have it down. They know how to crank out good pies consistently and very fast. Great family friendly atmosphere as well. Very reasonably priced. I love eating here. read more

Really did not have a good dining experience here. The waitress was nice, but didn't really listen to our dietary restrictions. Yes! Finally a good wood fire oven pizza in the area! Great taste, with a little too much salt in general. Ok so I have been back for a few things now and am updating. The pizzas and puffy bread are amazing. The calzone was generous in fillings , how're the ricotta was more runny than I like. Disgusting, avoid at all costs. We should have walked out when we had to send one of the PLASTIC water glasses back for having lipstick on it. The water tasted heavily of chlorine, perhaps a good thing given the low level of sanitation here. Pizza was at or below the incredibly low level of a supermarket freezer pizza -- seemed to be fried, not baked -- crust was greasy and unrisen -- nothing crisp about it. Ingredients of very low quality, without flavor. Weird industrial aftertaste. House wine was inky and watery, with no flavor. I can only imagine that this place earned its good reviews under a previous management -- the photos of pizza from 2017 and earlier look like serious pies from a chef who had at least some idea of how a Neapolitan pie is made. The present pizzas bear no resemblance to those photos, and surely none of the recent positive reviews are genuine. Take your business elsewhere -- your tastebuds and stomach will thank you! read more
