Back to Owner & her daughter, another Beauty! I'm beginning again. Hi. I met angels today! Yes I did! They Are Real. Yup! Between the Kindness of the Owner & her daughter, I'm returning from heavenly right now. She told me, she would try to get a food delivery to me & voila! She took some thoughtfulness, kindness & generosity from her heart & soon, my doorbell rings. Yup. I met her daughter next. I didn't know! I called her mom, "My angel!" While returning from Hunter Mountain we tried pizzas in La Florentina. We were surprised by the Margherita pizza. It was super flavorful with the right thickness in the crust. We loved the cherry tomatoes on the top, the only thing that we would have liked was the fresh mozzarella, but that's just a personal preference. 5/5 on the pizza. read more

I have been a long time patron of La Florentina, located in Kingston NY. I have tried a variety of dishes, all of them without exception have been good to excellent. A number of years ago, the original owners sold this establishment, the quality of the food went from excellent to good. On my recent visit I decided to order chicken parmesian, and a bowl of lentil soup. My partner ordered the vegetable lasagna, both were generous servings. Much to my disappointment, the tomato sauce covering both the chicken and vegetable lasagna had little flavoring and had that canned tomato sauce flavor. The cheese covering the chicken parm. was inferior in taste as well as the veg. Lasagna. The only item that I would highly recommend is the lentil soup, that was delicious along with the amazing hot pizzetta (puffy) bread that came with the meal. In regard to service, I would give it a fair rating, our waitress neglected to serve the hot bread which we had to get up and walk over to the service counter ourselves before it got cold. The waitress never offered an apology for her forgetfullness. I can say with regret that I will not be eating there again nor would I recommend anyone to eat there. G.T. read more

A year ago I came here with Wifey, my son, and my sister-in-law and had a very good meal. I had Fettuccini Alfredo, Wifey had a ham and spinach calzone, and we got two wood fired pizzas - the Metalazuna and a Margherita. Pleasant meal, great service, and we left full and having had a nice experience. Last night we went back and had a much different experience. This time we ordered two Margherita pies, one metalazuna, and one gluten free puttanesca. We did get there a bit late, but with plenty of time before closing. We were seated in the back room and given menus...and we waited...and waited...and waited for the server to come take our drink order. By the time she came back we were ready to order our food and our drinks. We put in our orders and when she brought our appetizers (focaccia and bruschetta) she still hadn't brought our drinks. By the time our pizza came there were still two people without drinks and when we pointed it out she walked away in a huff. The Margherita pizzas were very good, but the other two were underdone and soggy in the middle. I KNOW this place makes good pizza and it's one of the few places my niece can get a decent gluten free crust, but this visit was NOT good. Hands down the best moderately priced pizza and pasta place in the Kingston area and possibly the entire Hudson Valley. I'm a pizzaiola and have very fussy taste. This place gets me excited every time. Interesting, traditional Italian choices. The decor, wine selection and service are mediocre but they are not the reasons to come here. The aroma from the wood fired oven (in the middle of the dining room!) is amazing. It is like a warm hug from your favorite relative the second you walk in the door. Go on a crisp fall evening and get the Mauceri pizza with mushroom sauce if you're adventurous, the Panzerotti if you are a meat lover. Maybe bring your own bottle of red. Their pesto is out of this world, with subtle lemon zest and very high quality olive oil. You'll spend more at Savona's and get a great meal, but this diamond in the rough will wow you every time. Never had a mediocre pizza here and the HV is full of mediocre pizza. I see from the reviews they had a rough patch a year or so ago, but this is definitely over. Imagine ordering a pizza for pick up being quoted 25 mins. Get there in about 20 mins pay and told my food will be out soon an hour goes by still no pizza. I ask about it and question a refund after pushing the blame on another employee and not making it right I was refunded and left after an hour and a half with no pizza. We sat down and they brought us an incredible flat bread with the perfect amount of spices!! The della casa salad and it was perfect... you will love the salad and we shared it with three people and there was enough to go around. And she recommended this place that was a little off the beaten path from downtown Kingston. First of all, it's in a strip mall - which I was pleasantly surprised as I walked in how beautifully Italian it was decorated! Ordered a salad and the Margherita Pizza. No I am by no means a pizza connoisseur but my favorite pizza is a margarita and I have had many in my travels. This one is by far the very best I have ever had! Big chunks of delicious tomatoes, Mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, the perfect amount of spices and garlic, and the best crust I think I have ever had. We sit at a dirty booth because we have a 7yo and it's easier and I'm a waitress so don't mind. 2-waitresses are on the floor... 1-table leaves; so now there's only 5... waitress drops off menus and says "someone will be right with you"... We sit for over 10 minutes and no one acknowledges us. I work in a VERY busy restaurant... there were 2-servers on and 5-tables!! This should not have happened. We walked out. The calzone had loose crumbles of (house made!) sausage, Genoa salami, roasted peppers and ricotta. Extra info here: I'm not a fan of ricotta or most sausage. DIVINITY ON A PLATE. Seriously, there was not a drop of grease in that calzone, the crust/shell was delicious and crispy, the sausage was delicious. And the sauce.....my husband actually said "do you want me to look away when you drink that?" Yeah, it was good. He got cheesecake for dessert, which I had a bite of though I don't care for cheesecake (I was trying to determine if it was frozen) and it was good, he raved about it! I had a cannoli, which was pretty good size, shell was crispy, filling was cinnamoned. The filling was a little gritty for my liking but still delicious. I came here with my family twice while I was living in Upstate NewYork and This place is Hands down, the best casual Italian joint The Hudson Valley! They use a wood burning stove oven for their Pizza and wow! It gives such a unique taste and texture! For starters the bread that they serve is delicious! the atmosphere wasn't overly loud and it wasn't crowded either. I have tried three other pizzas but my favorite is the three mushroom pizza. Three Mushroom Pizza. It has fresh basil, home made mozzarella cheese, white mushrooms, Balsamic Portabella mushrooms and a Porcini mushroom sauce. I really enjoyed this Spinach Florentine Pizza. It was all fresh veg and fresh mozzarella, spinach, black cured olives, chunk tomatoes, fire roasted peppers, and large roasted shrimp. All this on a hand toss thin crust roasted in a wood stove. I enjoyed what I consider a homemade type of pizza cooked the old fashion way in a wood burning stone oven with all the freshest ingredients. I would go back here and eat again. After all the reviews we read we decided to drive from New Paltz to this place and we were very disappointed. I ordered a gluten free pizza which was probably frozen to begin with. The toppings were just tossed on it. There is an after taste lingering in my mouth. The regular pizza my companion had was just as bad. The wife & I chose the Vegetarian Appetizer Plate which came with what I at first thought was a party balloon but once it cooled realized it was bread for the various veggie assortments that did not fail to surprise. Having frequented California Pizza Kitchen I thought I knew what to expect, but alas, again I was not even in the ball park as this tasty mushroom melody was a home run, past the stands, into the parking lot. What a wonderful surprise this restaurant is. The hummus and fresh baked pita is a must. We had the pear salad and a marguerite pizza, both amazing. Ok, here's the deal on this place-the outside looks drab and old, but the inside and food are great! It's located in a strip mall and the awning is well-aged, so my husband and I having lived in the area for about 10 years have passed it up. We have become tired of the same old restaurants we have often frequented and have been trying out others in the area. Friday night being our regular pizza night, we agreed to give La Florentina a shot. Driving into parking lot at 6:30, it was packed, a good sign! We were promptly seated, dining area was very clean. And the woodfire oven center stage was a nice addition. We opted for the Caesar salad and the margarita pizza. The salad was dressed well-not my husband's favorite as it had a bit the traditional anchovy flavor, but in my opinion, I thought it was good. The pizza came out shortly thereafter, it was excellent. We both agreed that we would be back again, and soon. There are a couple of wood fire pizza places in the area, some that look great, but the pizza is overpriced and not good quality. Really did not have a good dining experience here. The waitress was nice, but didn't really listen to our dietary restrictions. The salad was watery , my lasagna only had cheese on top and just tasted bad, the pasta came out cold. This little restaurant has the best wood-fired Margarita pizza in the Hudson Valley. It's the best and freshest you'll get here in this area. Went here last night for dinner. Came prepared by a friend who recommended LF that the service can be a little slow, but the food was excellent. Service was very attentive but I guess a bit slow. Disgusting, avoid at all costs. We should have walked out when we had to send one of the PLASTIC water glasses back for having lipstick on it. The water tasted heavily of chlorine, perhaps a good thing given the low level of sanitation here. Pizza was at or below the incredibly low level of a supermarket freezer pizza -- seemed to be fried, not baked -- crust was greasy and unrisen -- nothing crisp about it. Ingredients of very low quality, without flavor. Weird industrial aftertaste. House wine was inky and watery, with no flavor. I can only imagine that this place earned its good reviews under a previous management -- the photos of pizza from 2017 and earlier look like serious pies from a chef who had at least some idea of how a Neapolitan pie is made. The present pizzas bear no resemblance to those photos, and surely none of the recent positive reviews are genuine. Ok so I have been back for a few things now and am updating. The pizzas and puffy bread are amazing. The calzone was generous in fillings , how're the ricotta was more runny than I like. The taste was very good and the bread shell of calzone was like the puffy bread in yum factor. The hummus was very high in tahini and a little thinner than commercial brands. If you like tahini you will like the hummus. It does taste fresh. read more
