Cabin Shrimp

Great food! Cash and check only. What a gem of a place! Service was on point. Get there at 5:15 and put your name on the waitlist. Sit in car. Wait for porch light to come on. Hope you got one of the 8 tables for the first round of service.

Take your meals to go and watch the sunset over the Chattahoochee River! If you can't get a seat, anyway. This is my favorite restaurant in the South, perhaps the world. The steak and seafood here are amazing. This is an old-school restaurant which is run with passion and in the owners' own style. You are welcomed onto The Log Cabin property as if you were visiting longtime neighbors; greeted by sweet dogs, saying hello to other guest, friendly staff, and a classic setting. They have limited days and hours, and the quality is very high as a result. This is the way that all small businesses should be. A friend grew up in the area and recommended The Log Cabin to me. I was returning to Fort Rucker from Tallahassee and decided to stop at The Log Cabin. The drive and the restaurant were perfect. I miss the Adirondack Mountains, and this restaurant has that country and outdoor atmosphere of the ADK's. Beware- the wait times are very long and they do not accept credit cards - but if you face a wait, a scenic overview of the river is just two minutes down the road. It's perfect.

This would be five stars even if it was in a bigger city. Excellent food. It is a total hole in the woods but do not judge this book by its cover. My ribeye was huge in more than one meal. My wife got A half order of fried shrimp and it was plenty for an adult. Really good batter on the shrimp. The shrimp are large as well. Not the teeny tiny ones you see so often in restaurants. When I go back I will definitely order a cheeseburger because it looked amazing. Come here and spend seven dollars on a cheeseburger meal or $32 on a ribeye and either way you will leave happy. It is small and quaint. We did not have much of a wait but I heard it can easily get over 30 or 45 minutes. Good service. My friend had the catfish dinner and he says it is second to none. The only suggestion I would have is that they put a little more salt (and maybe some pepper) on the steak. It was cooked perfect and had a good steak flavor, but the best steak houses I've been to usually add a little heavy on the salt prior to cooking to bring out more flavor.

The service here is a little weird and jarring at first. I hadn't gone more than 10 feet through…read morethe door when I was asked "What'll you have to drink?" You just have to know the procedure, but it wasn't only me, a Northerner whose brain hadn't yet fully recalibrated for the local accent. Locals were confused too. Procedure is this: tell them your drink preference (I had water), pick up a tray, put it on the counter, pick out a main, three sides, a dessert, slide it down to the register, pay, and take it to your table. At that point do you begin eating? No! Remove your items from the tray and they come by and pick it up. Now begin! You may be thinking "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld but I assure you it didn't feel that way. Just the quirky way they run the place. The waitress did warm up after I was there a while, came over to ask where I was from, etc. And to try to convince me to come back for breakfast! This is cafeteria style, with everything prepared ahead of time and kept warm on steam trays. So how do they keep that fried chicken so crunchy and delicious? Perhaps the best I've ever had, the batter so crunchy you could probably hear me eating from another room, assertively peppery, the large leg and thigh pieces perfectly cooked and juicy. (White meat also available.) My sides were lima beans, turnip greens, and yams. The highlight was the yams: super sweet but not in a bad way, balanced by good seasonings. The beans were fine, a bit salty. The only disappointment were the turnip greens, too finely chopped and overcooked. The portion sizes were decent. Also included is corn bread. Two choices: baked or fried. Never heard of fried so I tried that. Interesting but a little chewy and not so much corn flavor; next time I'd get the baked. Finishing this rather large lunch was a challenge for me but I managed, while taking in the local ambience. I saved the dessert for later. Dessert? Yes. I was also asked on ordering what I wanted for dessert. The only one that appealed was the red velvet cake (the others were a cobbler and bread pudding) so I got that. I assumed it was included but when I paid I saw it was not. $4; no big deal. It didn't look that good, a thin 1 inch slice tightly shrink wrapped on a paper plate. Looks were deceiving. The first time I actually liked red velvet cake, a light crumbly texture and cream cheese frosting that tasted of more than sugar. With the amount of frosting this tiny slice was quite filling and I'm glad it wasn't larger. All this for a little over $21. I think this was including tip but I'm not positive. Either way, great deal!

As someone who worked in hospitality for 10 years, I give the food and the service 10 stars. I watched as the other employees handle a high maintenance customer with kindness and respect, which shows how well they treat their customers. Can't wait to go back, thanks again, Jesse!

Got their version of BamBam Shrimp on a bed of greens.to start. Presentation was on a bed of chopped iceberg lettuce, no side plates were offered, and we used our single paper napkin to keep our silverware off the table and wipe our mouths. No linen napkins. I did surf n turf, medium well which most kitchens struggle with. No different here, cooked well all the way through. Baked potato was genuinely cool to the touch. Collard greens were excessively seasoned with vinegar. Not good at all. The presentation was shockingly bad, one side on my plate had a rim of black pepper, the other side had a rim of butter from the shrimp, that's my best guess. Shockingly bad. My wife ordered ribeye medium rare. The outer part was well done and the inside was very rare, cook temperature way too high. Baked potato cool to the touch again. From my seat the kitchen looked chaotic and undisciplined, no quality control at the pass at all, no floor manager present anywhere to be seen. Sometimes my view was blocked by employees clocking in to work. This table should be the last to be assigned period. Non culinary folks could find easy ways to improve this place, linen napkins, side plates, hot food, precision cooking etc. The lack of oversight for the food preparation and presentation of the food killed the experience for sure, no supervision or management of the kitchen and food.
