I stopped in for a late night meal, I didn't quite know what to expect. Local Kitchens is reminiscent of a small college dorm cafeteria/dining hall, with an open floor plan, iPads to order and kitchen staff behind a visible industrial kitchen. There's no staff to greet you, and guests are welcomed by the self ordering desk. Ordering was simple and well organized through the tablets and basically fool proof for all ages. I ordered two quesabirria tacos from Nopalito. To my surprise, the tacos were very tasty. Plenty of hot melted cheese covering a well marinated, slow cooked beef, all encased in a greasy yet still crunchy corn tortilla. Only bad part: The mild salsa had no flavor at all. No spice, no seasoning or salt, just wet? Nonetheless, I will be returning again for these delicious tacos. read more

We have been so excited to try Local Kitchens, so we jumped at the chance while we were visiting in Davis! We didn't know exactly what to expect, but I think we thought there would be multiple storefronts inside the building.. so it was interesting that it is actually all local kitchen employees cooking the food for the local Businesses. With that said, the staff was very friendly. You do order off of the tablets, but it was very user friendly! As far as the food.. Nash and proper: we ordered the sammich with medium spice and added fries. The sammich was DELICIOUS. tasted just like when we had it from the Nash and Proper food truck! I will say although the fries were really good, the portion was a little skimpy for an additional $3! We ordered the ranch and the spicy sauce (we forgot the name) and they were both really good with the fries and sandwich! Sushirrito: delicious! We got the salmon poke roll with a side of the wasabi aioli. I feel like for $9, it was a really fair price. No complaints here! Humphry Slocombe: we got the matchadoodle pint. I will say $9 is a little steep for one pint of ice cream, but I get the small business costs are a bit more! With that said, this ice cream is SO FREAKING GOOD! Would absolutely recommend! Altogether, we really liked the concept. All the food was really good. The space itself was a little small, but they do have outdoor seating which helps it out! Ate there this evening. Bought the Sammich (crispy chicken sandwich) because the last time I had it there months ago it was amazing. This time it was soo tough it was almost impossible to eat. I bought one for my friend and hers was exactly the same. WAY overcooked to the point she couldn't even finish hers. So disappointed! Was super impressed with the efficiency, ease, clarity of ordering here, especially considering the location just opened a few days ago. I ordered in person at the kiosk, although I'll most likely order ahead of time online next time because that's the only way you can apply promo codes (and it seems like they have a lot of different promo codes running currently!) The status displays were really helpful and you can also get updates by text if you choose to wait outside. The inside area is really spacious, but there's also some shaded outdoor seating in the area which is nice! I opted for the Garden of Eat'n chicken caesar wrap, and it tasted pretty much as I expected. I think this would be a really good place to come with a group of friends since there's so many different food options in just one stop... no more debating for 20 min over where to go for lunch :') Edited to add: currently they're giving free t-shirts and hand sanitizer if you leave a review on Google and the design is actually really cool, love that it's customized for Davis!! read more

Went here tonight with my kid so we could sample some food. My friend swears by Nopalito in SF so I thought I would give it a try. Now I know this is like a small fast food cafeteria but I had slightly higher hopes, the chicken bowl completely lacked any flavor and made me incredibly ill after eating it so that's a bummer. My kid got a burger and she said it was good. Overall for the price of the food it's not worth it, also not worth the tummy ache. read more

Inconsistent? I had a sushiritto (Geisha's Kiss) several weeks ago and thought it was great! I raved about it! But I got it again today and it was...edible? It definitely did not taste the same. The ratio seemed off somehow...and also the quality of the fish was strange. It was the exact same default order. I did not try the soy sauce packet last time, but I did this time. The taste was also very odd so I ended up throwing that away and using the soy sauce I had at home. My husband got the sammich for the first time and he loved it. Ordering was super easy and there's a board you can look at to know when your order was up. The staff were all really nice and friendly. But definite marks for the inconsistency of the sushiritto. I wonder if they changed the recipe and if they did....I hope they change it back. read more

A friend invited me here for lunch (before I knew what "local" kitchen was), and I was pretty appalled at what I found. I ordered a "lettuce wrap" burger from "The Melt." I received a barely cooked beef patty, a slice of cheese, a tiny bit of sauce, and a handful of loose salad lettuce pieces. My burger was so bad that the girl at the counter apologized before I'd even seen it, and later I contacted customer service for a refund. You order on an iPad. They collect your phone number, email, and full name. You cannot pay cash. There are mandatory "fees" with no explanation what they are for. Prices are high. This is a ghost kitchen: a concept created by big corporations to trick delivery app users into thinking they are ordering from a local restaurant. When you order, you seemingly are able to order from multiple different restaurants at once; this is a lie. They are all prepared in the same kitchen. Ghost kitchens create issues for health inspectors regarding things like allergens, as having multiple menus open the kitchen up to more risks of cross contamination, and are difficult to regulate. Ghost kitchens like "Local" Kitchen directly damage our economy of local small businesses by taking up multiple spots on delivery apps. read more

This place is good! It is conveniently placed in this mini plaza area and they have a lot of good options to choose from, and a wide variety. I ordered this plate that had hummus, pita bread, tumeric rice with chicken, and some salsa. It was good, nothing exceptionally yummy, but good and filling and tasted pretty healthy! The food varies from visit to visit. Sometimes it's the best you've ever had, or sometimes it's severely over cooked. It's disappointingly inconsistent. Here's some more concrete examples - The melt burger - can be medium rare and melt in your mouth, or can be a charcoal disk. It's 50/50 Fries from the melt- half the time are drowned in salt Proper fries- the amount of food you get varies wildly, from only filling a quarter of the box to filling the entire thing. That being said, it's also always a dice roll when ordering anything from Nash and Proper, as the chicken is almost never the same spiciness or the spice level that you ordered. All in all local kitchens suffers from some serious quality control issues, no doubt potentially disappointing any turning away many first time customers. read more

I liked the concept of this place, but it seemed like everything that I wanted to try they were out of. I ended up getting a chicken sandwich and a sandwich from the sandwich spot. Both were just ok. My 4 star rating is more for the fact that the restaurant is a good concept. I like the different menu option all in one place for families that don't want the same thing. Super duper cool addition to Davis. What's even cooler is that they open until midnight every night so this place will be making big bucks once college starts up again this Fall . This is a place with 1 kitchen that has about 5 restaurant menus combined into 1. You and preorder food online or come in here to order at the kiosk. It's like a fast food place. There's a sushi burrito menu, a Mediterranean menu, a salad menu, the Melt (next time will try because their burgers look ahhmazing), a NASH and PROPER (all their chicken sold out for tonight lol), and an ice cream menu (Humphreys- which I'm sure you've seen the brand before sold at stores). Very awesome place and it looks like locals kitchen started in the Bay. There are tables inside to eat at and of course tables outside as well. Will definitely come back to try other stuff. Make easy for yourself and basically order on the app or ahead pickup. You can order online or in-store in person on the touchscreen kiosk. Your food is prepared fresh usually 10 minutes or less. If I could leave a lower review I would. I ordered at the restaurant not knowing it was a ghost kitchen but was okay with the 40 minute wait for a single burger and fries. A lady walks in after me ordered two burgers and two orders of fries and got her food within 10 minutes when my order wait time is still at 35 minutes. It doesn't look like much when you walk in, but the business is overall very clean and nice. You can order on iPads which I prefer in my opinion. I had a hard time choosing what to get, everything looked amazing. Finally I chose the tri tip sandwich. I paid extra to have avocado and tomato added but there was not any on my sandwich. I would reccomend adding extra sauce because it was hard to taste it. The avocado was fresh enough but could have been better. The steak was somewhat tough and over cooked. I would order the sandwich again though it could be better. Next time I'd like to try the hot chicken. Prices are somewhat steep. read more

Side of Mx rice - undercooked with no flavor. Boba Guys HK style milk tea - tough boba that either sat too long or was also undercooked. Such a unique concept - bringing different, smaller restaurants together under one roof, kind of like a small food court except you can place everything under one order. I like having one place with so many different options. We've tried the lumpia, falafel salad, sushirito, and chicken nuggets and fries. The food was delicious! I especially liked the chicken lumpia and the falafel bowl. Can't wait to try more dishes. The restaurant itself is in a convenient location with lots of parking, and very kid-friendly too. Service was fast and staff were friendly, and even handed out some It's-It's ice cream on the house which was such a treat on a hot day. Highly recommend! read more

I understand that this might be growing pains but I was excited to try Nash and Proper again as we had a wonderful experience with their dedicated food truck, but this definitely missed the mark. We ended up taking a few bites and tossing it. I don't like to waste food nor money so likely won't be back soon. The quality is not up to par and the ice cream option is a bit laughable. Local Kitchens Mill Valley officially opened today! It's a welcome addition to the local lunch options. In fact, there are 8 restaurant options in one place. Mexican, Asian, vegan, deli sandwiches, desserts, etc! Eat in, or to go. I had the Wise Sons club sandwich with crispy pastrami. However, great, high quality ingredients can be downplayed by average bread. I would have given 5 stars, if that wasn't the case. Next time I'll see if there's a choice of bread. I picked off the batter so that i could bite into the chicken. Unfortunately both of our sandwiches were pink inside and not cooked through. Luckily we were able to get a refund and the employee was understanding. I also got the strawberry matcha boba drink and it was ok but not worth over $7 in my opinion. I love that you can eat different things from different cuisines here! I would love to see a couple more places move in here, especially with more vegetarian options. I really like Nash and proper they are my favorite of the places that are here. If you like spicy order it clucken hot, I got medium plus and it was barely spicy. I also like the Mac and cheese from the melt and the sweet potato fries from Oren's hummus. I was excited about Oren's because there really isn't a place to get good quality falafel in Davis, but unfortunately when I tried it is was very dry. I tried Israeli yellow falafels and they had such great flavor but I think they were fried for too long and they were completely hard and dry. read more
