I have been a patron of Loard's for many years and it is one of the "original" ice cream shops in Livermore that had been around for as long as I can remember! After dinner a few nights ago we decided to stop by this Loard's (we usually go to the one on second street but this was closer) and just by walking in the door I was stunned. The interior was messy and dirty and very barren of any decorations, the man behind the counter was not very hospitable, and it appeared that every request we made was a burden. I would certainly recommend that anyone who wants ice cream go to Loard's on second street or another ice cream store

A San Leandro native, I grew up on Loard's Ice Cream and during a recent trip to Downtown Livermore a few friends and I decided to get some an "ice cream nightcap" if you will while my friends were having a night out in Downtown Livermore. While there were many different flavor offerings to choose from, I ended up choosing the peppermint. It was good and refreshing, but not sure why but my ice cream melted super fast :( while my friends' stayed consistent longer. Customer service wasn't bad. The workers were very friendly and welcome to give any suggestions as needed. Overall? Not necessarily wow'd by this location but still find Loard's to be a delightful treat to end or start any day or night. There's a variety of flavors to choose from so there's likely to be something for you here as well.

Let me start saying that this review is specifically for this location, cause I haven't visit other ones yet... Ambience: very Spartan, looks like it is still under construction, and definitely not very clean (Windows, ice cream display cases -clear top part and lower part badly stained, floor, chairs and tables). Unfortunately I got my pants badly stained since I seated on a dirty chair (I didn't pay attention before sitting!!!) where someone else had spilled ice cream and obviously nobody took care of clean it before next customer (in this case me) used that chair. And this brings me to the service : not really good, one employee only, in a busy and hot afternoon can't really take care of customers in a proper way and keep the place clean at the same time. To be honest she wasn't the most customer oriented person either :)))) she looked annoyed by our questions (first time we were having Loard's ice cream) , but I totally accept that everybody can have a "nope" day. Talking about the ice cream, to me it was definitely too sweet and not enough flavorful, I mean you expect that a dark chocolate really tastes like what it suppose to be, in my opinion was pretty bland. Even banana hadn't a well defined taste... On top of that, I found the product a bit too pricey for what I really got. May be I have simply walked into the wrong location, so, I plan to give them another try in the future.

Friendly service from the cashiers, cute ambiance, and best of all, THEY HAVE SORBET!! I went to the one in Castro Valley and although that one has a way cuter theme of decor going on, this Loard's has Sorbet! You don't find many ice cream shops that offer sorbet. Even though I was stuffed from lunch, I couldn't pass up the opportunity of getting a scoop of Strawberry Sorbet. Now, normally I would've gotten the Single scoop cup but being so full, I was lucky they offered Kids scoops! The selection of flavors here are very unique as well and my friends who did try the regular ice cream they had agreed this place was as good as other have said it was.

Environment It's a small little ice cream with an old school vibe. It has these vintage pictures on the wall. I can imagine it would be a great spot to bring kids in the summer from the extreme heat! Food I ordered pecan praline on a waffle cone. Honestly, there wasn't anything special about the ice cream where I would want to come back. I would rather go to Cream down the street because I think the value is more worth it there. Service The staff was very friendly. I was shocked by all the negative reviews with the service. The guy offered me his opinion on the best flavors, and let me take my time.

Loard's is a nice ice cream parlor on first street in downtown livermore and I love it! The staff is extremely friendly! The ice cream there is super delicious and they just opened this one up (They have another location at 2nd street as well be sure to check it out!) From what I understand this one is much more of a foot traffic location where its more "on the go." Basically if you are looking for a more dine in location you are better off going to the location on 2nd street! The ice cream there is delicious and I love the peanut crunch it is by far my favorite topping!

Here's my puppy Remy checking out her dog treat! She pretty much swallowed both of them after the curious sniff!

I finally got my son to try Loard's. He loved it! So glad to be able to share my favorite spot for ice cream in this town.

I've had this place bookmarked for forever and was super excited when I realized I'd be in the area and could finally check it out. You can either order via walk-in or drive through. I opted to do the drive through as I didn't see any available street parking right in front of the ice cream shop. Luckily the drive through line was very short when I came by Tuesday evening around 6 pm. The first confusing thing for me was how to get into the drive through line, as I was coming from the wrong direction. There were no signs for this. Eventually I pulled up and asked one of the workers, and she said the drive through line entrance is on Neal St, coming from the First St direction. The second confusing thing was that there wasn't much of a menu for the drive through. There's just one small sign with a list of their everyday flavors and another one with some new flavors listed, but that was it. It was a spontaneous decision to come here, but had I known, I would've done more research on available flavors. No prices were listed either. After coming, I looked on their IG page and saw a bunch more flavors featured that would've been fun to try. Oh well. I ended up going the most basic route with a small vanilla soft serve. It was ready for me when I pulled up to the inside. The vanilla soft serve was delicious! I'm used to "lighter" soft serves from the fast food chains, but the ice cream here is creamier and more dense, which I absolutely loved. It felt like it had more substance to it. Plus you can't beat the price! It was only $3.50 for a small, which was already very large.

The staff was welcoming every time I opened the door. They were kind enough to tell me which seasonal drinks I could adjust to oat milk, and the rest you can adjust the sweetness and add toppings for an extra charge. I tried their Snoopy Chocolate Hazelnut Matcha Latte with oat milk, less sweetness, and less ice. There was a strong Nutella flavor with good consistency, but the matcha wasn't strong enough for me when I didn't mix it. I even got myself a Snoopy matcha plush keychain as my birthday gift for $18, which is pricey but durable enough to hang on your bag. I like shops that make their own high-quality, premium ice cream with interesting flavors as a bonus. The oddly named Salt and Straw seemed to fit the bill - that's all we needed to check it out! It turns out they are in the Shops at Bishop Ranch, quite a nice location. There was a decent line (always a good sign) and lots of people outside eating their ice cream. It's purely a to-go location, no seating. I was impressed by their organization, having three different people serving orders. They replicate their ice cream assortment behind the front counter for all servers can serve customers - this was a first for us. They are more efficient than my local bank! A cool little thing is they use metal spoons for their samples and there's a discard hole in the front counter wall to dispose of the used spoons. The samples definitely taste better with a metal spoon versus the normal plastic things. I had the Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - props for the creative name! My wife had the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. We strolled outside and found a table to try these guys out. Oh my. From the first bites we were sold.
