I've recently tried a few rolled ice cream spots and Icicles was definitely my least favorite of the bunch. Most rolled ice cream portions are too large, that's not really the issue. It was that the flavor of their coffee option was almost sickly sweet. It tasted inexpensive and had an almost chemical air to it. This is a busy location so having a single tablet wasn't ideal and they would probably benefit from a large monitor that lists which order is ready, versus saying the name. All that being said, I didn't eat more than a couple bites so I probably won't try another Icicles location in the future. read more

This Icicles location is in downtown Pleasanton. Parking is mainly street parking, so it may be hit or miss. Not much service, as ordering is through the tablet off to the side of the front counter. Small little shop with a decent amount of seating. This is my first time at this particular location, but I have been to multiple of their other ones though. I opted their jasmine cream tea with boba and Matcha Berry / Oreo Blast rolled ice creams. The drink tasted like I was drinking some type of glue / paste mixed with water - 3 sips and I had to toss it because it did not taste edible. The matcha rolled ice cream was decent, but the strawberry was a bit overpowering over the matcha. I did not personally try the Oreo one. Employees are not that friendly or welcoming either. Their structure seemed a bit unorganized because they were working on my order and I only received 1 rolled ice cream and they were finishing off my 2nd one, so I waited there after receiving the first one, but then they started to work on someone else's order first before coming back to my 2nd rolled ice cream after. By that time, both rolled ice creams were starting to melt. Hard to flag an employee down also, as they avoid eye contact and ignore you. This place was HOPPING, even late at night. There were SOOO many people inside and lined up. It's definitely liked and popular for a reason. There were many places to stand or sit. You can easily watch them work and even talk with them while they mix things in and roll the ice cream up. It's surprising how many of them they can fit in a cup. We arrived on a Saturday night. There was one customer ahead of us when we arrived and nobody sitting inside (no chairs). The employees gave the impression that it is a kiosk-only establishment. Ordering took a long time since it was our first time ordering and we ordered 5 rolled ice creams. The ice cream was tasty. The service was not. 1. Turn off the explicit rap music. Lots of children present. I'm sure the people dining at Strizzi's didn't appreciate it either. Why would you blast explicit music in a family restaurant??? 2. Employees were bumping into each other and didn't seem to have any organization. One guy dropped a blender full of mango. He spent a ridiculous amount of time complaining about it and trying to figure out how to clean it up, kept disappearing in the back where he was muttering obscenities loud enough for all to hear. At one point he grabbed a mop but the mop didn't make it to the front. Meanwhile, the other staff members were sidestepping the mess, definitely a safety issue. In total it probably took him 20 minutes to clean the spill up...assuming he got it done shortly after we left. At one point 3 of the employees walked to the back and nobody was working on orders. One order was started and just left on the ice tray. 3. I watch almost 30 minutes of this chaos...because one of our orders was forgotten. Trying to get anyone's attention is challenging because they don't actually look at the customers. The one exception was Arha. Arha was helpful and did a great job rolling the ice cream and double checking on the toppings. Based on this visit, the owner has some training and cleaning up to do. Icicles has been around for a while now, so I've been able to see the difference in the pre-pandemic vs. COVID-safe experience. While it's a bit of a bummer to pay the same price (which I think is pretty high) without the fun of seeing it made, the actual quality of the rolled ice cream hasn't taken a hit. I came with my siblings the other day - there's a socially distanced line at the store and a big menu board behind the counter. Pick what you want from a simple number based order system with a limited number of toppings (hint: max it out, with sprinkles included), and wait outside for your name to be called. I never write reviews unless they're good, but I am truly baffled by the terrible service and sub-par product received at our icicles visit this evening. We've eaten here before at their old location, and had a fantastic experience, but not this time. The staff was completely disorganized and frazzled, putting DoorDash orders ahead of customers waiting at the store. A couple employees were training and it was clear their trainers were not very constructive/supportive as we saw them get frustrated and snarky towards the trainees multiple times. The guy overseeing the new employee making one of our ice creams saw him totally mess up where 3/7 rolls were just shreds of ice cream and encouraged him to just stuff it in the bowl-- I paid $15 for that ice cream. Asked for a lid on the way out and they looked at me, ignored me, until I asked louder and they were forced to acknowledge me. There were several other frustrated/unsatisfied customers voicing their concerns to the employees that just did not show interest in remedying the situation or addressing their concerns. Due to COVID, you unfortunately do not get to have the experience of watching them physically roll the ice cream, but it's an interesting thing to witness during regular times. I ordered the "All Fudged Up" and you're allowed to order up to five toppings. My issue is how skimpy this location is with their toppings!! They could not cut the strawberries into the smallest microscopic pieces. Along with other toppings, everything was cut so tiny you really didn't even notice or taste the toppings were there, unfortunately. It's almost $10 for the tub of rolled ice cream and honestly you're paying for the novelty of it all. If they weren't so skimpy with the toppings, I would feel it was more justified to pay the prices here. The ice cream itself is okay, but it really didn't make the trip, price, and time spent waiting for it worth it. I heard other locations of ICICLES are better in terms of toppings, so I would maybe try those locations instead! read more

There's a decent amount of seating and it makes for a good dessert after you've had dinner on the Pleasanton Main Street. Since they make each one custom, there can be a bit of a wait, but the staff is efficient. Although Icicles offers novelty, I'm more of a sucker for the kind of ice cream and froyo that has the really soft, almost melted kind of texture. That and I felt like the flavors I've tried haven't been as flavorful here. For the steep price, I'd much rather get a cup of creamy froyo where I add my own toppings and get multiple flavors, but that's just my personal preference. Delivery order review: Ordering ice cream on a hot day could go terribly wrong. I honestly was 50/50 whether our order would arrive a melty mess but despite being 15 min from Icicles our order of 4 arrived fresh, well packaged and not melted at all! Each order was packed in a container in a separate and sealed paper bag with a spoons napkin. The boba topping was in its own cup which was genius since it was still warm and would have melted the ice cream. Along with the impressive delivery packing, the ice cream itself was delicious! We had two orders of the Fruit Roll Up (tart and perfect for our non dairy eaters) and an order of Wake Me Up and Nutella N Chill (very tasty but not overly rich). The $12 per cup price tag on Door Dash was a little higher than expected but one cup was more than enough for some of us adults to share. Some of the employees here are definitely not friendly. It seems as if you're supposed to treat THEM as if THEY are the customers and you the employee. I went in and asked for my to-go order. The lady at the to-go line told me "it's not ready yet" after I gave her my name. I checked 10 minutes later, and she said "in 5 minutes." Many other people were getting their orders with no problem, even after they arrived after me. I wondered if she understood me, so I asked again for my order about 20 minues after it was supposed to have been ready. She asked someone else who brought it out from the freezer right away. I asked if it had been ready the whole time, and the other lady said "yes." As any customer would, I was upset and asked if the lady who kept telling me it wasn't ready spoke English since she clearly didn't understand me. That's all! That simple sentence. For that simple little phrase, the head employee (an older man) there reported me to Doordash. To be honest, HE is the one that escalated the matter by acting as if I was attacking his own daughter. I guess Doordash doesn't believe in getting two sides of the story. Very poor customer service. It seems like I'm not the only reviewer who's complained about the poor customer service.
