I've heard great things about this place since moving to the North Shore 5 years ago and I can't believe that it has taken me this long to make it there. We went here for breakfast over the weekend and it won't be our last trip. We met some family here and the place was packed. The tables are small four person tables and there were six of us and they wasted no time at getting comfortably seated. The dining area is small and it was very busy and crowded however, that didn't prevent us from having great service. We ordered and the food was delivered promptly and our waitress was very attentive which amazed me c how busy they were. I had a mixture of things that I put together kinda ala cart if you will. Two biscuits with sausage gravy, two eggs, sausage patties, and home fries. Let's just say that I wasn't expecting the amount of food that I received. The biscuits were huge and the gravy was perfect. The portions were more than what I expected. The place has a great vib and is decorated very neglectful with various things from Madi Gras to mermaid paintings and lots of signage. The parking is ample and easy to get in and out of. So if you're in the Mandeville area definitely stop by and give them a try. read more

just had a late breakfast at Liz's. i had 3 eggs over medium with breakfast potatoes with onion, bacon and english muffins. it was simple but perfectly prepared. the staff was awesome, as always. and i got to visit with my old friend Liz for a bit. i go there frequently and its always good. today it was exceptional. read more

Every visit to this area, we stop in here for brunch. The food is always fantastic and service is friendly and efficient. Liz came by the table to say hi to my mother in law and to meet us all. I started my meal with a spicy Bloody Mary and then had the Seafood Scramble with Spicy Hollandaise and a side of Cheesy Grits. The scramble had a good amount of eggs and seafood and the sauce had a nice level of seasoning. I would've loved to have the biscuit that came but I saved it for my son since he can eat gluten. That biscuit looked soft and fluffy. I loved my egg dish. My son had a Cheeseburger with Sweet Potato Fries and my brother in law had the Grilled Cheese and Crab Sandwich. They both looked great and apparently were delicious. The Shrimp and Grits and Debris Eggs Benedict were awesome too. We've been meaning to try breakfast/lunch at Liz's Where Y'at Diner in Mandeville for awhile, but just got around to it. Liz's exterior appears a little downtrodden and parking a bit limited, but inside is welcoming with a bright and shiny Louisiana ambiance. We had excellent service and Liz herself dropped by and welcomed us. We ordered a variety of specialties, with me enjoying an egg scrambler with all the trimmings, my wife having a sumptuous roast beef po'boy and my son having a burger and fries. All were very good and our iced tea glasses were never allowed to be empty. We were seated immediately, but business is brisk and you may need to be prepared to wait at peak times. Place was packed! Having lived on the same street for a year now, finally had a chance to walk here and try it. The food was poppin' and our server was friendly, as was the owner who came and said hello. I ordered the tacos and oh my delicious!! Tommy created his own plate, ala cart. A grilled chicken breast and side of fried green tomatoes. He said it was the absolute best meal ever. High praise from his picky self. There is a boil water advisory. No coffee, tea, water, or ice. I can't believe Liz would not have someone go to Rouses to buy jugs of water and bags of ice and put it in an ice chest. I asked my server why they didn't do this and she said I would have done that but I just work here. I asked for a bottled water and apparently no one thought to put any in the cooler. Had the BEST experience at Liz's Where Y'at Diner!! The atmosphere, food, and drinks are absolutely top tier. It truly feels like you just walked off the beach and straight into a laid-back island restaurant. The food? Unreal. So good I completely forgot to snap a pic of the shrimp and grits--they were THAT good. And the biscuit... wow. It tasted like something your great-grandmother would've had sitting on the table all day, warm and perfect. Coffee was spot on too (especially with a splash of Bailey's ), and the spuds were seriously mouthwatering. This place came highly recommended by a coworker. The diner is quaint, colorful, and easygoing. The service was welcoming and kind. We ordered a veggie scrambler with debris grits and a biscuit, a waffle, and the crabmeat grilled cheese with fries. The scrambler was just ok, grits and biscuit were awesome. The grilled cheese had good flavor and the bread was perfectly toasted and buttery. Overall, it was a little too rich for me. My first time at Liz's did not disappoint!! The hospitality is truly unmatched. Liz herself came over to our table to introduce herself, and our waitress was phenomenal. Everyone enjoyed their meals! I got the scrambler, which was cooked to perfection! It was a great portion too. The bananas foster pancakes are huge so most people can only stomach 1 or 2 pancakes (just a warning). I went here with my bf after going for a walk on the lakefront for breakfast. We were immediately greeted when we entered the restaurant and were told we could pick where we wanted to sit. We chose a table and were greeted by our waitress, Lauren. She asked if this was our first time going there and it was and she did a great job pointing out things that a newbie would benefit from knowing, ie portion sizes, menu accommodations, etc. We both went with tea my bf's sweetened, and mine unsweetened to drink. I got the veggie scramble and biscuits with debris, and my bf got a scramble and waffle. Both of us really enjoyed what we got. The veggie scramble was delicious and the veggies were very fresh. The gravy for the debris biscuits was very flavorful and the meat was delicious. Lauren was very attentive and checked on us often to see if we needed anything and also to see how everything tasted. Crabmeat Grilled Cheese. Sounds like a gimmick, right? I mean, you can't have meat on a grilled cheese sammich! Wrong. ;) First off, Liz herself greeted us at the door and helped us get seated. It was packed, as usual, but there were two spots at the bar just waiting for me and Petunia. Handing us to the amazing Fallon, Liz wished us a great meal and a wonderful day - we were happy to oblige! Fallon got us started with some drinks and we decided on the Crabmeat Grilled Cheese with sweet potato fries on the side. I say "we," but that's only because we were sharing the sandwich P brought me here to eat. :D The fries were good, could have been crispier for my taste (I'll remember to ask for it next time), but the sandwich was so super delicious I didn't miss it! The toast is perfectly crisped all around, but once you break through that shell, the creamy, crabby goodness fills your mouth with so much love. Creamy and cheesy, and full of wonderful crab flavor - I wanted to eat the whole thing, but I was really glad Petunia took half...we were so full we didn't even finish the fries. Had a feeling it would be busy at 11:30am on a Saturday but wanted to try it and stopped by, sure enough the parking lot was packed but we found a spot and went in and to our surprise we were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered Mimosas and looked over the menu and I wanted pancakes and Alé wanted Chicken and Waffles so order up we did. Food came fast and the ambiance was super fun. While waiting Liz came over and introduced herself to us (nice touch) the pancakes are huge, fluffy and so tasty. Stopped in at Liz's Where Y' At Diner for lunch with my wife, and we ended up going full breakfast mode. I got the Brees Eggs with cheese grits and she went with the egg croissant. Service was quick and everyone was really friendly and on top of things. Food came out fast and had great flavor. The cheese grits were actually pretty cheesy (which I love). We came during lunch on a Friday so we had no trouble getting a seat, but I've heard that the wait can be quite long on the weekends. Our waitress was also amazing! She conversed with us about the menu and we joked around quite a bit. She knew the menu really well and made some great recommendations! I ended up getting the Where Y'At Bennies Mix with the BBQ Shrimp and Big Easy Bennies. They were both different tastes with one being a grit cake and the other being a crab cake. You know I lived in the Hammond area for most of my life (15-32) and I never once came here as much as I came to Mandeville and Covington. We were back in Louisiana visiting and our friends said let us take you to our favorite breakfast spot. I was like ok. When we pulled up I said I remember passing by this place all the time but I never stopped. It's super funky outside and in, the food was surprisingly very delicious, Liz the owner came to our table, and overall we had a great breakfast. So let's start from the beginning. We pull in, the only complaint I can say is parking, but that has nothing to do with the establishment. We came on a Saturday morning around 9:30/10 ish. Place was packed, we had to wait outside for about 15 min for our table of 7. If you know Louisiana in August, the weather is dreadful, but I must say they were prepared. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and it's already a tight fit and there's no inside waiting area. So they added misters and fans out front in the most shaded area along with water and coffee. So that was very well thought out. We waited around 10-15 minutes, got sat. Our waitress was overall a good waitress, not super warm in personality, but not a bad waitress. The menu was amazing, lots to choose from and I'm not a normal breakfast lover so I loved the addition of more savory Louisiana dishes. We started with the napoleon fried green tomatoes. It was well cooked and good, but I wish I would've done the traditional . The sauce was very rich. My husband got the grits and grillades and I got the shrimp and grits with crabmeat added. He liked his, I tasted it, and it was good; but mine was amazing. Everything about my shrimp and grits hit the spot. Definitely made a happy plate. Not super traditional in my mind but super tasty. Each of our dishes came with a biscuit and we both saved that for last. You just think it's a biscuit, man we could've ate like twelve of these. They were perfectly fluffy and just delicious. The iced coffee I got was good, however I wish they had an espresso machine; but that's me being picky. The food came out hot and delicious with hearty portions, service was good and Liz coming around to the tables introducing herself and thanking us for coming in really showed how much she cared. This place was so cute. My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast on Sunday morning around 1030am. There was no wait we got seated as soon as we walked in. The ambiance is very fun & welcoming. We loved all the art & fun vibe of the diner & the staff. We both ordered the Deuces breakfast which came with two eggs, grits or spuds, and your choice of toast. Someone recommended that we eat here when visiting Covington. This place has a funky fun atmosphere with loud but enjoyable music. Our server was very friendly and pleasantly greeted us at our table. I ordered the Shrimp Po'boy sandwich - a 12" French loaf with fried green tomatoes, Louisiana style boiled shrimp, spring mix lettuce, drizzled with remoulade sauce and served with potato chips. I thought the bread-to-shrimp ratio was too much, the shrimp were tasteless, and the fried green tomato was not fully cooked. All I could taste was the remoulade sauce, which was good, but otherwise the flavors were disappointing and the sandwich was dry and ordinary! My wife had eggs, with chorizo sausage, and grits that were buttery and delicious! Since we are from MN, we got some good advice about visiting New Orleans during our stay. read more

I'm so glad we came. The service here is phenomenal - southshore Brennan's quality without the haughtiness.
