We had no idea there was an actual J-Dub membership awaiting! We planned to buy a t-shirt or hat on our way out to commemorate our finding but then the real fun began! When my husband told the guy helping us (manager maybe, if not he should be!) the reason we came in, his eyes lit up and he asked with a confident nod "You a J-Dub?" ... and then honored him with THE one and only J-Dub family membership. Sadly, the owner wasn't in for a JD brotherly send off, but we'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Fellow J-Dubs unite and give this place some love. Even if you're not, it's still a fun place to visit. The hazel nut coffee is a must try!

There were several places to sit indoors and out after placing the order. The kids hade the garlic bites (fried balls of bread with garlic and cheese...looked like doughnut holes!) and a pizza. They can add pepperoni to a cheese pizza for the particular children in your life. My husband and I shared a Cobb salad, no croutons to make it gf (the lemon dill dressing was AMAZING! Actually, this whole salad was very good). We also intended to share the NY strip with chimichurri. However, we didn't read that it comes with bread and a side salad (great!) and roasted vegetables in romesco sauce (also great!). My husband is allergic to nuts and so he couldn't eat any. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

Rich with deep flavors, the right amount of creole seasoning and creaminess. I was told by the bartender that I should definitely try it. I was torn because I wanted to try so many things. The cocktails are all fantastic. The wine list is great. The servers are all very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a great spot that's not pretentious but would be fantastic for a dimly lit date spot, or even a casual date with a friend. They have a full bar, a unique menu, and indoor/outdoor seating. If I am back in Bend, this will be my first stop.
