Sometimes, the best meals are the ones you weren't expecting to have. My wife and I had hoped to check out a new all you can eat sushi place, but both it and the existing AYCE spot had lines out the door. After placing a call to Little Tokyo to confirm they too weren't filled to capacity, we headed there for our sushi fix, and it made me regret not having visited sooner. Little Tokyo boasts a pleasant, relaxing ambiance that made it a welcome refuge from the night's rather intense rain. The menu here is Japanese (sushi, sashimi, hibachi, etc.) albeit with some Korean and Chinese influences. The selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and quite a few of them sounded intriguing. Admittedly, the Italian (a California roll topped with white fish, tomato sauce, and cheese) was a bridge too far even for me. My wife and I came hungry and went with two apps (steamed dumplings and vegetable gyoza), four rolls, and two misos. The food was, across the board, quite good. Whereas some miso can blast you with salt, Little Tokyo's broth benefitted from an underlying richness. Our sushi was beautifully plated and tasted fresh. Of the rolls we tried, the Bulgoki (beef, crab, cucumber, and eel sauce) was my favorite. Prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food (rolls in the low-mid teens, most apps under $10), and severs are polite. The kitchen isn't lightning fast, but we didn't find the wait unreasonable. Based on ratings, I expected "good," and based on hunger levels and a desire to be out of the rain, I would have settled for "OK." Little Tokyo, however, ended up being surprisingly great. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE! All my love to this amazing amazing restaurant. It is kind of sort of hidden away behind a bunch of commercial buildings, and looks very inconspicuous from the outside. But as soon as you get it, you are transferred to an entirely different experience. Right from outside, where it says "VIP entrance" letting you know you are a VIP to entrance decor which almost feels like a Spa as in the pucture. After stepping in, you have a few private booths for large groups and on the other side there is very comfortable bar as well as table seating which is again somewhat private. Coming to the service, I was greeted by sweet hostess and taken to my table which was half booth style with comfy cushions. Given the menu, I was amazed with their lunch options. You could have everything without making a huge dent in your pocket. I ordered the chicken hibachi box which comes hibachi style chicken and veggies, fried rice, 4 calfornia rolls, gyoza (veggie or pork) and salad (I got the ginger dressing and loved it). After ordering you get tiny wonton wrapper bites with a dip to keep you busy. The food quantity will have you full and maybe even have some left over. Food is wonderful and so fresh. Dining in is pleasant but even when we order take out, the food and presentation are just as special. Expect to pay more but also knowing this is authentic and the best around. We had seaweed salad, miso and chicken soups, then fried rice dinner with steak and shrimp. This is a little known secret for great food and easy access. Love the tables and curtains between them. Offers privacy, especially for date night. We went there this past rainy Friday and the restaurant was very full. We were greeted at the door by I believe the owners wife. She's always very nice and sat us quickly after cleaning a table. I would've given this review 5 stars, but the service this evening was not up to their norm. It took easily 10 minutes before she came back to take our drink order. There were servers all over walking past but I don't believe they employ the buddy system for service, which is a must in any restaurant these days, especially if understaffed. It took a bit to get the drinks and for her to return for our order. Once she took our order the food came out quickly. I was so hungry that I dug in and forgot to take enough photos. The sushi presentation was excellent and it's so fresh and creative. My wife ordered the Yaki-Soba noodles with tofu and veggies. The taste of the noodles was fantastic and portion size was ample. We will be back for sure and I'll take more photos. If you want a great Japanese meal with less crowds like a communal Hibachi restaurant and great sushi, give this place a try for sure! read more

Little Tokyo is a great spot for lunch or dinner and feels tucked away in High Point. I have been dining there for a few years now and it is very consistently serves good food. They always bring complimentary small appetizers to each table while waiting for your food which is a pleasant surprise. I like to order different sushi rolls or one of their sushi bento boxes. The bento boxes offer a variety of sushi and sides. I have never had a bad experience and I would recommend giving them a try. read more

Little Tokyo has become one of the constant, SOLID places for Japanese food for me. Hardly ever does anything go wrong and the food is almost always on point. The inside itself is borderline gimmicky but the food makes up for it. Whatever you order, you get small plate snacks before your meal (ie edamame, crispy wonton strips, and a macaroni/corn/crab mixture). - nothing extravagant but enough to get you by while you wait. I typically get the hibachi bento box that can fill you up. It comes with your protein, rice, salad, 2 tempura vegetables, 2 tempura shrimp, 4 piece California roll, 2 fried gyoza, soup. (Roughly $22-28, depending on your protein choices). The soup is a a chicken broth and really had the full essence of chicken bones stewing. The white sauce itself is just right, not overly sweet and a good flavor. My partner usually chooses from the vast selection of sushi plates and/or a sushi bento box with a variety. Very fresh and no complaints of taste. Service is good for the most part, can get backed up on occasion but you can tell that only occurs with the tons of people coming for their food (which speaks good on their part). First time at this restaurant, suggested by a vendor taking me out for a lunch meeting. I didn't get what I ordered and after an extended wait I decided to just eat what was served. If you're not aware of this restaurant it's because it's sort of hidden. It's behind Truist Bank right off 68 (East Chester) just past The Pladium. A little more upscale from Panda Express, but not as nice as those restaurants that cook right in front of you. Extensive Sushi menu. Prices are decent. You can get a full meal under $20.00. I forgot to take photos. I had the Chicken and Shrimp, my date had Shrimp and scallops. We were both disappointed that the tails were still on the Shrimp mixed in with our vegetables. I placed a takeout order for a sushi roll and a dinner hibachi bento box. The order was ready quickly. The sushi (I tried a Hibachi Bento, and the bento came with a few pieces of California roll) was really good. The fish tasted fresh, and the ratio of fish to rice and other ingredients was good. It was pricier than other sushi places I've been to, but the quality made up for it. The hibachi was ok; it was tasty, but nothing special, and didn't feel like it was worth the price. The tempura vegetables were not my taste (but I also don't like most breaded-and-fried things). I would have preferred more hibachi vegetables in place of the tempura vegetables on the side. The soup and salad were just the typical thing you'd get anywhere--tasty but not remarkable. I will go back for the sushi, but if I want hibachi, I would go elsewhere. read more

They GrubHub delivery driver gave me so much attitude about do I have enough sauces do I have extra napkins silverware did they answer my question about ordering a gallon of tea instead of 2 cups and can I get a bowl of sticky rice on the side? I had neighbors coming in to complain about the water and a fence builder coming in trying to give me an estimate needing my help all of the same time and this redheaded kid whose name I will not mention was saying he could be of no help because the bags were sealed so he could not check that all of my sauces etc. were in the bags. Well I had more to say but it did not allow it I guess dude time. But one of these dishes came with something that was supposed to be cracked crunchy seafood roll is basically egg salad in rice. Our lunch here yesterday was quite pleasant, the food was excellent, and the service was at least that good. This is one of those places you have to be looking for to find, you are unlikely to just run across it. It is located in one of the new warrens of business buildings off Premier Drive, near Highway 68. The restaurant is small, nicely decorated - a good setting for an enjoyable meal. They have the usual Hibachi choices (including a Lunch Box Hibachi for $10.50), some very tasty appetizers, sushi and sashimi dishes (including a very nice Sashimi Meal for $12.95), and some soup and salads. We were quickly seated, menus placed, and drink orders secured. We decided on Spring Rolls ($5.50), Fried Rice Balls ($4.95), Lunch Box Hibachi with steak, the Sashimi Meal with a side of Sushi Rice, Green Tea ($1.95), and a 12 ounce bottle of Kirin ($3.50). We were started off with a small, complimentary dish of a delicious Crab Salad containing yellow corn and macaroni - a very nice beginning, and adding a little soy sauce brought out all the flavors. The appetizers were out quickly, and both were excellent - with the Spring Rolls being as good as I've found in this area - crispy outside, fresh tasting filling, and no greasiness. The Rice Balls were nice as well, and both serving were ample. The Lunch Hibachi comes with meat, veggies, salad, rice of choice, 2 pork goyza, and 4 pieces of California Roll. Everything was simply topnotch - the steak tender, cooked perfectly to order; the pork dumplings were out of sight tasty (will order as a separate next time); the veggies crisp and fresh tasting; the rice was perfect; and the Cali Roll was solid. Box is beautifully plated The Sashimi Meal was composed of 9 pieces (4 Salmon, 3 Tune, & 2 Snapper) of super sashimi - in fact, the Salmon was as good as I've tried lately, firm, not at all mushy. The Sushi Rice was excellent, sticky, with a hint of sweetness. This meal was also beautifully plated, with colorful flowers as a part of it. The service was simply superb, friendly and attentive, even as the place grew rather busy. Overall, considering value, quality, service and atmosphere, I'm not sure there is a better "quick service" Japanese restaurant in the Triad, and it challenges all of the upscale ones, as well. We need to try a few more dishes, especially more sushi. They also offer Shabu-Shabu at $25 per person, with a day's notice required - this can be an excellent, and different, meal. Being a true Japanese, I usually try not to go to a Japanese restaurant in "small town USA". That is simply because of my past negative experiences. But I did today and this time was no exception. I came here for dinner today and ordered Sushi Bento Box B (please see my photo) and it looked nice at a glance, but the fish was a little bit on the dry side and the texture was that of defrosted fish. The sashimi pieces were sliced small and thin, and my expensive a la carte Fatty Tuna Nigiri 2pcs were also dry and tasted like it was just defrosted. It was totally lacking fatty-ness. Only the sashimi salmon slices had good taste/texture. Well, at least I now know where to avoid in GSO. read more

Been going here for at least five years. Their bento boxes are definitely big enough for two people. I frequently order the chicken teriyaki bento to go, eat half for lunch one day, then have the other half the next day. The food is fresh, there are always some fun little appetizers like edamame and macaroni salad that come before your in-restaurant meal. I love that touch. This is our favorite sushi place in the triad. First the meal starts with little side dish appetizers that are always fresh and delicious. We always order the tuna tadaki and 100 times later are still in love with it! As for meals- order anything - it ask tastes good. My kids enjoy the hibachi style chicken and the beef Bulgogi. I ordered the Lunch Bento Box C and found it filling and delicious. Came with a variety of sushi, fried dumplings (ooppps, I lied, I did ha e something other than sushi), and a salad with ginger dressing, the dressing was incredible. I sat at the bar and have no complaints. I did notice the booths had this privacy drape over them that I have never seen anywhere else and told my wife I am taking her there to experience that. High Point, NC is not the melting pot of Asian cuisine but Little Tokyo takes Asian "con'fusion" to a whole new level! OK...stand back and try to follow. The restaurant is located on the bottom floor of what seems to pass for an office building. Upon entering the place, your Asian confusion starts. 1. The place is owned by a Korean guy 2. There are Chinese lanterns above the sushi area 3. They have Japanese pictures and stuff around 4. The figurines are from Korean heritage 5. The bamboo seating mats are Korean 6. The sushi/sashimi combo was not too Japanese - had hot sauce on it...what? 7. They served Korean BurGoGi here as a meal and with Chinese fried rice The list goes on. But why does all the confusion matter if the food was good? Well it wasn't great. The sushi wasn't all that well prepared and presented. The sashimi cut was uneven and showed little artistry. The only great thing was Sake was buy one and get one free! Not a repeat place for me but at least my countryman seems to be doing ok in the land of pulled pork and burgers. KanPai! read more
