As someone who's eaten their fair share of sushi across NC (as well as some of the best in LA), I hate having to write this review. We were originally planning to hit up our usual AYCE spot in Greensboro but didn't want to deal with the wait, so we decided to try Kimono since it's closer to home. Big mistake. Let's start with the rolls - they're basically rice bombs with a hint of fish somewhere in there. If you're into eating mostly rice with your sushi, then jackpot! But if you're looking for that perfect rice-to-fish ratio and fresh, vibrant flavors that good sushi should have, keep driving. The quality is barely a step above what you'd grab from Harris Teeter's sushi counter, and I'm being generous here. The only saving grace was our server, who was attentive and friendly throughout the meal. But friendly service can't make up for mediocre food, especially when the bill hits $120 for three people. At that price point, you expect way better quality. Bottom line: Save your money and make the drive to a better spot. There are too many good sushi places in the Triad to settle for this. Your wallet (and taste buds) will thank you later. read more

recently visited Kimono for sushi and, unfortunately, was left quite disappointed. I ordered the Ninja Roll and the Spicy Tuna Roll. The rolls were heavy on the rice, which overwhelmed the other flavors. Additionally, there was an off-putting funky taste that made the sushi comparable to what you'd find in a grocery store. On a positive note, the waiter was extremely nice and friendly, providing great service throughout the meal. While the ambiance and service were pleasant, the sushi itself did not live up to expectations. It gets one star for bad food and the extra star for the great service. read more

My go to spot for quick hibachi! I always get the steak and shrimp combo that comes with a salad and miso soup. The miso soup is my fave everrrrr, it's clear with no tofu (THANK GOD) and very flavorful. The salad is simple lettuce and carrots but still good. When ordering your main dish you can choose to have the meat cooked hibachi, teriyaki or spicy teriyaki. I always do hibachi style with noodles instead of rice. Everything is cooked well and you get tons of vegetables with it too! The carrots are my favorite, sweet and tender. Also a nice plus is you can ask for extra white sauce and they don't charge you extra! Service is always pretty quick but it can get really busy on the weekends, so if you're short on time I'd recommend ordering to go. read more

We got four different sushi rolls: Winston-Salem Roll (smoked salmon, crab, cucumber and cream cheese), Shrimp Tempura Roll (deep-fried shrimp, avocado, asparagus with special sauce), Kimono Roll (deep fried tilapia, avocado, cucumber and spicy mayo), and a California Roll (for my children). We loved all of our rolls and devoured them all, and wished we had ordered more. We chose Kimono because it was located near our hotel. It was a short walk, and it was very easy to order takeout when we got there. It was about a 10 minute wait for our food. The dining room was nice. If we had dined in, I'm sure our experience would have been even better, as it usually is anywhere when you dine in. But even so, our takeout was packaged nicely, and they even included two chopstick helpers in our order, which my children used. How did they know we had children? Dined in with my granddaughter. We were greeted and seated right away; no wait. The atmosphere was relaxed and chill. Once seated, our waitress quirky came over, greeted us with a smile, and got our drink orders. I ordered the mixed veggies with fried rice and shrimp teriyaki and an order of fried rice for my granddaughter. It didn't take long for our food to be served and our waitress made sure we had everything we needed and even accommodated my granddaughter's special request for a spoon instead of a fork. Let me tell you how this experience went. To begin with we got our drink order but then it took at least 10 minutes to take our order. The waitress was very short with us. She wasn't helpful and wanted us to order quickly. We ordered and several people came in after we ordered and they got their food before us. We tried to be patient but after 30 to 45 minutes of waiting for our food, we had lost our patience. We were just ready to leave and I said to another waitress, which seemed to be very efficient that we needed to see our waitress because we had not got our food yet. We actually get up to leave and that waitress brought our food, not our waitress but the one we inquired with about our food. The food was not hot but not totally cold either. At this point we just ate what we could and left the rest. The food was just ok not great. The real problem was that waitress that was so neglectful and rude. read more

What an amazing surprise! Fabulous FRESH food (so many options!) and STELLAR service here! Agadashi fried tofu is DIVINE, like clouds of tofu with a tempura crispy thin crust - YUM YUM YUM!! Me and my boyfriend stopped by here while on this side of town for dinner. We did come on a Saturday evening and had to wait a little bit to be seated because they were very busy. The staff were really nice and got us the first available table. We ordered the crab wontons and they were really good. They were hot and crunchy on the outside with a warm cheesy crab center. I ordered the chicken and shrimp teriyaki combo with mixed vegetables. The chicken and shrimp were cooked well in a yummy teriyaki sauce. When I mentioned the rolls being burnt to my daughter, the server became offensive immediately telling me the weren't burnt they are always darker on 1 side. The miso was just a sodium based broth with 4 little cubed tofu tidbits. Well I could carry on oh and am. So as I continued to stack full plates to the left of the table we were never asked how our meals were. I let the server know how and why we felt as we did about the dishes that weren't pleasant. I decided to go with the boys for dinner as we had not been in a while. We have been here quite a few times & have always enjoyed it. We usually gets appetizers, however we were not to hungry today & we decided all to just get our meals. Apparently that was all for the best. We had a guest with us tonight & it was his 1st time there. It was sad that it was a bad 1st impression as all of us that had the meals with the rice had major issues with the temperature of our food. It was the weirdest thing, it was like some of our vegetables & even some of the protein was super cold & others like warm while others nice & hot like it should be. It was quite unpleasant. While boys will be boys, my oldest made the best out of it as he could after we told our waitress & her only offer was "would you like me to microwave it?" Ummmm no thank you! I mean that was truly an unacceptable fix. The other just ate his protein & left the cold veggies & most off the semi lukewarm rice. While I ate what I could & decided to bring the rest home & figured I guess I will bring it home & put it in a pan myself to get it to the correct temp. I gotta say it was disappointing to see that the waitress did go tell someone & no one came to the table to apologize or anything. That's all good! I don't go anywhere for a free meal. I have my favorite Asian restaurants in town, & I was trying to switch it up a bit tonight. Now I know better than to not try & fix what isn't broken!! Ordered take out here today. Ordered the spicy teriyaki chicken with noodles and a hibachi chicken with rice. Got home and opened the boxes of food and we were both shocked at how little was there. Even made a joke that they should at least make the boxes smaller to make it appear like more. From eating at similar establishments, it appeared to be HALF the amount of food usually given for $10 a box. The vegetables were under cooked. Raw onion and raw zucchini. There was about a cup of noodles in my box, 1/4 cup vegetables, 1/4 cup carrots and I counted 9 small flavorless chicken bits total. Shrimp sauce is watered down and just collects in the bottom of box instead of sticking to food. Will not be back. read more

I used the Groupon for $60 worth of food for takeout. We called in the order and they had it ready within 20 mins which is pretty impressive for how much we ordered. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and pick-up was smooth. The rolls they had were pretty typical of any sushi place, nothing crazy interesting to try but that was fine with us. My boyfriend and I ordered the spicy trio and some special rolls. It was a ton of food, we had leftovers for the next day. The rolls had pretty good amounts of fish (my pet peeve is when it's all rice) with good flavor. The spicy rolls were actually moderately spicy to my surprise and left a slow burn in your mouth afterwards. Overall, a dependable choice for when you're craving your go-to rolls. I ordered 2 sushi rolls, seaweed salad, and steak and shrimp hibatchi from door dash. We were very disappointed. We could have gotten better sushi at the grocery store. Having eaten here pre-covid, I expected the food to be what I had enjoyed in the past. I don't know what has changed, but we were sorely disappointed. The seaweed salad was the best part of the meal. The sushi was bland (if you can even imagine bland sushi, I couldn't but trust me now I know it's a thing). In the hibatchi, There was hardly any steak and it was cut into the tiniest pieces and overcooked. Miniature shrimp that was rubbery. Spaghetti noodles with soy sauce and a sweet white sauce. I'm not exaggerating. This was some of THE worst Japanese I've ever had. Please save your money and go to Mizu. read more

Solid neighborhood Japanese place. I was recently in Winston-Salem for about 2 1/2 weeks to be with family, and we had lunch here at least four times! It's in a cute strip mall and has a surprisingly cozy atmosphere with big Japanese rice-paper panels everywhere. We always ordered sashimi, which was generous and fresh, and we would then get a hibachi entree with fried rice, vegetables, and a protein. The entrees are less interesting than the sashimi or sushi, but they hit the spot bc they're simple, filling, and generous. I'd give those entrees 3-stars and the sashimi 5-stars. I'd probably focus more on sushi in the future, as the fish is super fresh, and the prices are very fair. Service is casual but not noteworthy, except for one lady who remembered our family and asked about one family member who was absent. That sort of personal touch is really nice, as it shows they really care about their customers. This won't be the standout Japanese place you'll want to drive 20 minutes for, but it's the one you'll wish was in your neighborhood. read more

I mean idk what more a person could ask for. I love japanese food and this is my go to place. Honey if you hungry this is it. They ain't super fancy but their food is consistently delish and the workers are always nice. This ain't no hit or miss kinda place. They're dependable. Calling in orders just got easier bc they have fluent English speakers take orders...and there's no headache involved. I feel like no matter how many plates I order it's always 10-15 mins.
