Not what I expected but my guy took me there for lunch. I was expecting a Japanese Steak House-not Kimonos fault. The food was good, I had spicy teriyaki chicken (I do think the chicken was a little over cooked. The crab Rangoon was fantastic.

I've been here a handful of times over the years. The food is consistent, never had an issue with an order. The service is good, servers are friendly and efficient. The menu has plenty to choose from. Overall, Kimono is a good, local restaurant which I'd recommend to anyone who is looking for good Japanese food!

The restaurant is very casual and smallish with 10 total tables including booths. As I waited for my meal I noticed most of their business here is coming from take out orders; There was only 1 other customer seated. I ordered steak and jumbo shrimps from the Daily Specials menu. It only costed $10.95. It came w steamed rice or fried rice, your choice along w lots of veggies like mushrooms, zucchini, onions and broccoli. The beef and shrimp were hot off the grill. Yum! I asked for extra of the included sauce, I love a good ginger sauce. The green tea ordered was very good. Negatives: Ginger sauce tasted more like soy sauce and if it had ginger in it...it was grated so finely you could hardly notice it by sight or taste. My mound of steamed rice was cold on arrival. The sign for restaurant was needing fresh paint or a total rehaul. This seems to be a mom and pop restaurant. The 2 people seem to work hard, 1 cooking all meals and 1 serving them. Very pleasant and attentive people. The food was good and you get your money's worth.

I came here on my lunch break while running some last-minute Christmas errands in the area. Of…read morecourse, I turned to Yelp and searched for a good local spot, which led me here. After reviewing the menu, I called to place a pickup order. The gentleman on the phone tried to upsell me on adding sushi rolls, but I declined and added the spring rolls instead. He said it would be ready in 10 minutes. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted and remitted $17 for the drunken noodles with tofu and the spring rolls. He offered the sushi rolls again and explained the ins and outs of their bogo specials. He then told me he was still working on my order and asked me again about the spice level. It didn't take much more than 10 minutes total. As the gentleman was bagging my order up, he warned me that he "made the noodles saucy so that they would travel well" and that he "bagged the drunken noodles separately. Which, even at the time, I was concerned was an excuse, because he put too much sauce in the noodles. Even though I took it to go, I did not plan to travel with the food; instead, I planned to eat it close by and enjoy the weather. As he handed me the bag, I noticed he'd spotted some sauce on it, but didn't wipe it off and just handed it to me anyway. This may seem like a minor detail, but I think it's essential to pay attention to these little details, especially if they could cause a mess or inconvenience for the customer, and for general cleanliness. Thankfully, I spotted it as well, and I was very cautious. A few minutes later, I opened up the bags and decided to start with the noodles, which were already leaking quite a bit into the bag after a short walk to the car. The noodles were broken up because they were overcooked, and the dish was literally swimming in sauce. The ratios of every component were off compared to traditional drunken noodles. It did not seem like a cohesive dish at all. There was a lot of garnish, which I think could have added flavor, but didn't help with the disjointed feel. It was beautifully presented, but who cares if it's pretty when it's poorly executed? The taste wasn't bad, but the overcooked noodles and excessive amount of sauce and garnish really ruined it. The sad thing is that the tofu was perfectly cooked (though scant), and the garnish was super fresh. The spring rolls were actually inedible. They tasted like they had been in the freezer or refrigerator for a long time, and they were so salty and mushy on the first bite that I could not finish them. (If you ever made salt clay as a child, this is what it tasted like and had the mouth feel of. I had to pull over to throw it all away for fear it would ruin my car interior with all the sauce if I kept driving, and to grab a Coke to wash down the lingering flavor of the spring rolls. Overall, this restaurant felt really short for me. I don't know if it was just a bad day, but unfortunately, I won't be back, even though I've seen other folks have better experiences. As the adage goes, "You only get one chance to make a first impression.

My…read morebest friend and I were on a road trip from Richmond, VA to Asheville and this was the halfway point. We were heading to AVL for my bachelorette and throughout the weekend we kept going "GOD THAT RAMEN WAS SO GOOD!" We came on a Wednesday evening. It took a little to get seated and service was on the slower side, but it was worth it. There was a lot of indoor seating and we were seated at a booth. They have mens and womens restrooms at this restaurant. And a lot of free parking out front in their parking lot. We started off with an Alaska roll as an appetizer. This was really delicious! We knew we were off to a great start. I got the black garlic ramen and my best friend got the red spicy oil ramen. We were in heaven. This ramen is beyond delicious. The rich garlicy broth of mine was perfection. Each element was so yummy. I would drive the 3.5 hours back just to get this ramen again. I highly recommend going.

He (an African American male) was treated terribly from the moment he went inside. First, the receptionist acted funny toward him and non-friendly, as if he was stealing someone else's order. That was strike number 1. Then, when he got home, we realized our order was absolutely wrong. We were missing the Spider Rolls and the yellow tail. We spent almost $70 so of course, this was irritating. He called the restaurant on his way to get the missing items and once again, the receptionist was rude. She questioned if he knew what yellow tail and spider rolls looked like. Questioning and insulting his intelligence as a grown man. That was strike number 2. He asked to speak to a manager and he said there wasn't one and he would need to come tomorrow to speak to one....yeah ok. He told her that wouldn't be necessary because he was pulling up to the restaurant in about a minute. When he came in she continued to argue with him about his order and told him, he needed to bring it back...why would he bring back the items that were right in the order, when he was there for the MISSING ITEMS?! Not to mention, that's extremely unsanitary! She would not help him but instead argued so badly with him that the chef had to come out of the kitchen. The receptionist spoke to my husband as if he was a child. She talked to him as if he was a thief and a liar. Strike number 3. The chef then told my husband, he would take care of the missing items for him and to not worry. Now, why couldn't the receptions in treat him with the same respect and dignity that the chef did? I'll tell you why. She racially profiled him because of the demographics of the city where the restaurant is located. She treated him as if he was uncultured, ignorant, and a liar. We will never be back and will be sure to write every single person that matters and leave reviews all over the internet exposing this racist establishment. I will be sure that everyone knows exactly what happens when a black person enters the restaurant.

The egg rolls were mushy on the outside and the pork inside wasn't fresh... it hadn't expired... it just wasn't fresh. Maybe cooked this morning or even yesterday. The General Tso Chicken was made with low quality chicken. My wife actually spit it out it had so much chewy gristle. The sauce (which was supposed to be spicy had no bite. The broccoli wasn't lightly blanched... it was raw. The pork fried rice had no pork, didn't look fried, had a few undercooked frozen vegetables, and no egg. The pork lomein was the best single item... but I'd still give it a 2 out of 10. If the food was good I can forgive the esthetic of a mostly takeout restaurant... but given the horrible food the atmosphere was the icing on the cake. It's been years since Covid had us putting plastic barriers between us. Three unrelated items for sell. There is a candy vending machine (maybe to save people from purchasing dessert?). There is no culturally aligned Chinese music. And not surprisingly, there is no smell of food being cooked to order. I'm thankful for the pleasant weather because something tells me the HVAC wouldn't be on. Avoid this restaurant. I'll be driving to Greensboro next time I want some average Chinese food over this disgusting joke. I honestly have no idea how their Yelp average is 3 Stars. I'm recommending to Chef Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares!
