Chunks of time went by and we wouldn't see him, drinks and food took a long time, we ended up refilling our own waters. The food! A few of us 'ordered well' - the sushi was fantastic. Really nice fresh fish, the best I've had in Winston. One of our dishes came out cold and the manager/owner took care of it, no problem. Apps were amazing: standouts were the crispy sushi, crazy jalapeno, crab and shrimp roll, lomo saldato, tuna bowl. The ceviche was delicious, needed a vessel. Such a hit and miss place! We were in for a celebration (5 folks) and there was a large party charge (fair warning, it's ok, we saw the menu (not the policy) but expected it to be pricey. Sushi Rose is a restaurant that combines Japanese and Peruvian cuisines. It is a very creative concept, but I didn't find that it hit the spot as much as I wanted it to. The restaurant itself was dark and modern. It felt like I was at a club, which I didn't feel like fit the vibe of a restaurant in downtown W-S (Bailey Park). The service was okay. Our waitress felt like she was running all around the restaurant, and she was not the most friendly. Our interactions felt rushed. The food and drinks were pretty good! I will say if you're going to Sushi Rose, you have to get a drink and the Crispy Sushi! I got a fall seasonal drink (the whiskey sour), and it was very tasty. The Crispy Sushi is also amazing - I could've just ordered like 3 of them as my meal. So good! As for the rolls, there was just something that didn't taste right with them. I was getting a celery aftertaste, which didn't sit right with me. The plantain mash on the Brûlée signature roll was rather underwhelming and unflavored. It felt like an unnecessary mushy addition. This place is truly a gem. We arrived in the area late Friday, looking for a place to eat. After Googling a few options, we decided to give this place a try. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately impressed by the ambiance--from the chic décor to the low, intimate lighting and beautiful wallpaper. Since we wanted to try the unique Nikkei cuisine, our bartender, Marcus, made some excellent recommendations. We started with the Achvicado Roll, grilled pulpo tacos, and fish tacos. The presentation was phenomenal, and the food was exceptionally impressive. As we were about to order a second round of food, we had the pleasure of meeting the restaurant owners, Kat and Jay. Hearing their story about bringing Sushi Rose to life truly made the dining experience unforgettable. You could feel their joy and passion for creating such a lovely place. Kat's final recommendation--and my personal favorite--was the Lomo Saltado Roll. Ate here while I was in Winston Salem and I absolutely would not return. The food was overpriced and bland. Sushi was falling apart yet sticky at the same time. The Peruvian fusion just seems so unnecessary, master one cuisine before you try to combine two. Our server was nice but she was also clueless when it came to the menu and could not answer most of our questions. The atmosphere overall is just...weird. Wallpaper on half the wall, couches, cheap luxe looking furniture. It was SO DARK, like a night club, and unbearably cold inside. I dined at Sushi rose for the first time for lunch today! At lunch time, they are currently offering a buy one sushi roll and get one half off so that is what I did. I got the achiviedo (spelling may be off) and katana rolls. Both were nice, both had unique sauces from other sushi places. I would say the quality was on par with any of the better sushi establishments in town. I didn't try their Peruvian cuisine so I will hold my judgment on if the place truly offers something unique but it was a nice, if not pricey lunch. Even with the BOGO half off, it was still a $33 lunch after tip which is pretty steep in my world. The service was exceedingly friendly but the restaurant was also nearly empty, only me and another couple. The food took an extremely long time to come out as well. Located in downtown Winston-Salem, Sushi Rose is a new innovative twist on sushi. We ordered take out and asked for it to be ready at 12:30. The host was standing outside upon my arrival and couldn't have been nicer. As he opened the door for me, he noticed my out of town plates before going to check on the order. While waiting for the kitchen to finish preparing we chatted and he shared the history of Peruvian food and about the restaurant. I shared some information on catfish in Mississippi as he stated he liked catfish and had only been through Mississippi headed somewhere else. I noticed he showed the same attention to other guests as they arrived. The restaurant is beautiful inside. Very nice decor that I can only imagine the experience of dining inside. We will definitely eat in the next time. We ordered the Tuna luna rice bowl, the acevichado rice bowl (salmon), an acevichado sushi roll and the Peruvian maki roll. Presentation of the food was nice. The salmon rice bowl and acevichado sushi roll (fancy shrimp tempura roll) were my favorites. Both rice bowls contained plenty of fish and could easily make two or more meals, even when sharing. The fish tastes fresh and the flavors in the salmon bowl worked really well together. Maybe if the tuna bowl contained the same sauce on top as the salmon, it would have ranked higher for me. We believe the other sushi roll was not the correct one. The receipt showed we did indeed order the Peruvian maki roll but it lacked chimichurri sauce. It also lacked a lot of flavor and was the only food item we did not like. We also ordered the mango cheesecake. I'm not a cheesecake fan but the spoonful I tasted was light and fresh and the mango on top did not taste like the frozen topping I expected. It was good. I visited Sushi Rose on a Wednesday afternoon it was not too busy. I started of with the Crudo which is a seasonal fish and also the Angry Jalapeño. The Angry Jalapeño lives up to its name it is sooooooooo spicy I was literally crying lol my friend loves spicy and can tolerate it more than me and she liked it but also thought it was really spicy. I also ordered the Acevichado and Peruvian Maki omg those were so good . I loved them. Their portions are pretty generous. The food was really good. Excellent aesthetic, but beyond that a string of 0/10s. Sat at 10 to 7, got warm water in a dirty carafe at 10 past. Put in for appetizers and drinks, waiting just shy of 20 minutes for first appetizer, second appetizer came ten after that, 2/3s of our drinks followed another ten minutes later, ice half melted in both. Finally got to put in entrees, server looked incredibly annoyed we were doing so. Took almost 40 minutes for those plates to arrive. Server only ever returned for water swap. Never got the chance to put in for any more drinks. Sushi is about 90% rice, I ordered the sesame and cucumber roll and the tofu roll, less than a teaspoon of sesame paste across the entire roll on the first, tofu well past its peak service age on the second, crumbly and mealy. Friend ordered the mushroom rice bowl, comes with edamame as part of the dish. Wasn't present, asked if the menu was wrong, got a bowl of unprepared edamame to add to his bowl. Maybe 5 pieces of the pickled elements in it. Was basically a heap of rice and cold mushrooms. Service seemed disappointed throughout the evening, like they'd rather be anywhere but work. Food was just average, if not a little below average. That would have been fine if the entire experience hadn't been 40 minutes to first bite (and not even the entire course) and well over 2 hours to finish. We didn't order anything complicated or anything with more than 6-9 minutes of line time. We should have been an easy sit-and-send four top. Kitchen staff and FoH clearly crumbled under the pressure of a standard Saturday night. 0/10, you've been in business for 16 months, this is a first month kind of problem. read more

We had heard great things about this hidden gem but it always seemed to be busy when we would be out here. Today we were leaving Bailey Park after attending the Latin Festival and as we were walking by we decided to see if we could get in. Luckily for us it was not that busy(was already 8pm). As soon as you walk in the bar is what stands out, it is beautiful and elegant. They have tables as well as lounge sofas that make the place cozy and elegant. The lights are dimmed low so it feels romantic and perfect for a date night. A very relaxing laid back environment. We started with the Grilled Pulpo(Octupus) with chimichurri. The presentation was beautiful but most importantly was the perfectly cooked octupus, it was perfect not under or over, placed on top of a delicate black olive sauce, daps of marinated sweet potato puréed and sautéed cherry tomatoes for garnish. We also had the Crispy Sushi which was filled with spicy tuna tartare and spicy mayo with jalapeños on top. For main course we got the Sushi Rose Ceviche. I'm use to the way it's made in El Salvador. I must say the Peruvian way is different and all the elements work well together. Amberjack fish, marinated red onion, chocolate corn and diced sweet potatoes. You got all those flavors in every spoon full. I had not had this awesome style ceviche since NY and it did not disappoint. I also got the Kinoko Roll, was worried I would not like it but boy was I wrong. It has shiitake mushroom, cucumber, avocado, with an ahi cilantro sauce. Surprisingly well put together and a great combination of ingredients. Had never seen this offered in any sushi restaurant and I have been to well over 60! Prices are a bit high but it's worth it. The staff is very attentive and stay on top of everything. Wish I had the money to come here more often but I definitely will be coming every chance I get! read more

Going on a Sunday when nothing is super busy was a good idea, as we walked right in and got seated straight away. The hostess was quite lovely and sweet. We started off with the ponzu scallops, on the small plates menu. These were delicious. Fresh, subtle ponzu, layered under were cucumbers that worked really well . Then we had the shrimp tacos and the sashimi hamachi, the tacos are loaded with mango, red onion, their sauces, and lots of tempura shrimp, you get three and it's a lot of food! Great combo of flavors and textures, I'd love to try the octopus ones next time! The hamachi was so good too, their wasabi is amazing. Fresh fish, melts in your mouth. We wanted to try one more item off the sushi menu but were too full, and went with the dessert as I had my heart set on that when he mentioned it earlier! The key lime cheesecake, but with a cake layer instead of graham cracker crust. Drizzled with raspberry and caramel. This was limey and so light and I loved the cake part. Great presentation on this , perfect end to a great dinner. The restaurant is nicely put together and very stylish in decor and the bar is awesome, great chairs, and you can eat there too. They have couches also instead of tables if you'd rather. They've spent a lot of money in this place and prices are high but we did enjoy our first time here. My husband and I visited Sushi Rosè on Saturday evening with an 8:30 pm reservation. I purposely waited on dining here because I had a feeling this place would be consistently busy since it's new and popular. As far as the experience went, we arrived a bit early since we got a notification that our bar top seating was available earlier. Unfortunately, the service was slower than expected. After ordering a beer, we finished our drinks and waited for about 25 minutes with empty glasses before anyone asked if we wanted to order more. We had to take the initiative to request another drink while ordering our entree/appetizer together. The ambiance was interesting but felt a little underwhelming for the price point. While I liked the overall vibe, the décor and feel of the space didn't quite match what I expected for a higher-end sushi restaurant. It seemed a bit on the cheaper side for the cost of the meal. Despite the wait, we weren't automatically provided with the basics like chopsticks, wasabi, ginger, or soy sauce until someone overhead us talking about it and a little later brought out our utensils/napkins. On the positive side, the owners were incredibly kind and went out of their way to explain the menu. Their hospitality was appreciated, and they offered us a complimentary lemon yuzu jello shot and dessert, which helped smooth over the experience. As for the food, it was good but didn't blow me away. We ordered the ponzu scallops, katana roll, and king salmon roll. Of the three, I'd say the king salmon roll was the standout, but still, it didn't quite reach the level I had hoped for. It was tasty but not particularly memorable. Next time, I plan to explore more Nikkei dishes, like their ceviche, since I don't feel a full assessment of the menu is fair based on just sushi rolls. One highlight was the plum sake, which was sweet and reasonably priced, and the bottle itself was adorable. Overall, I'm willing to give Sushi Rosè another chance. I don't like to give a bad review, only a fair one and as a former server I understand bad nights happen. They may have just had an off/long night. The bartender said they are going to extend the hours and make it more of a lounge situation after dinner time. We went here the other night for the first time, and we had mixed feelings! It is a Peruvian Japanese mix so the flavors are definitely different! I think we prefer the more classic sushi better but it was fun to try! The service was quick and the ambiance is very moody, kind of club like! read more
