This was a great place, nothing crazy or fancy just good food. I had a delicious spicy tuna roll, it was perfectly made and held together very well. I also had the shrimp hibachi with veggies and fried rice, it was good nothing to call home about but good. The star of this place is the sushi.

Ok, I live just minutes from this place so, being the sushi lover I am, was thrilled to discover, on yelp, that it was here. It has pretty good reviews and the pictures looked great from what I could see. I walk in and it's small but that's a non issue. The real issue was the sanitation score of 93.5. That's low, even for Archdale/high point but I was willing to look past it because i was starving for sushi. The other isssue was the lack of people that worked there (just a lady and her young child sitting at a booth) but whatever I truck on. I get home and open the box to a surprisingly beautiful display! While the presentation was better than the taste, the sushi (I got the shrimp tempura roll and the super spicy mix roll) wasn't bad! The super spicy was not super spicy at all but I probably am better off for that. The wait begins to see if it hits me later but I am feeling confident that I will be back. If my wife lets me.

The sushi rolls we got were incredible (Mega Power, Westwood and Back Shrimp Killer Roll) Will definitely be back to try more of the rolls and get a full boat next time. Staff was super friendly and I wish we lived closer, would go back all the time.

Took out my trusty Yelp app, and something of an Asian influence sounded good to me. I found this really well rated spot not far from my location, so I decided to head over. Shipp Sushi Casual is a small restaurant located inside a strip mall next to the Wal-Mart in this area. It's non-descript, but inside, is actually decorated nicely. Lots of greenery and small touches. They do have table service, though I would have been fine just to order at the counter. There is a huge TV in there, and unfortunately for me, it was loudly blaring Fox News at the time, though the channel was changed several times while I was there. In either case, a little less volume would have been appreciated. There was a miscommunication on my order, and now that I look at the menu again, it is clear to see why. There are two sections right next to each other, "Soup Udon" and "Spicy Udon" the former is soup, the latter, is a stir-fry. That said, in the soup section there is a dish titled "Spicy Seafood Udon" and in the stir-fry section a dish titled "Spicy Udon Seafood." I ordered the latter (even pointed to it), but was brought out soup. You could see why this would be confusing, the waitress should have asked for clarity, or the menu needs to be changed. I didn't have the time to wait for an entirely new dish to be made, so I accepted the Udon soup. Now having the soup, I will say, I was very happy with the portion. The amount of veggies, noodles, and seafood made it very filling, and the broth was indeed spicy. However, I wish the broth had a more robust flavor, as opposed to just being spicy. Ultimately, I was really wanting the stir fry, and though I do like a good soup, it just didn't scratch my itch. All that said, I'd give it another try, and be very specific with what I want next time. Overall, I think they're making good hot food here, and they care about what is rolling out from the kitchen. I'll be back!

We were not disappointed! Amazing food. Like every single thing we get is just SO good. From the sushi, to the bang bang, to the sauces, to the rice, to the sesame chicken... you get the point. Even the Pepsi is excellent. The only downsides of this place is that it's a mostly serve yourself atmosphere after you get your meal. It would be nice if they included just a little one time check in to see if sauces or anything is needed. The floors are also SUPER slippery which is tough for disability flare ups. The service at the counter is friendly enough, and the options are great. I do wish we could have a little flexibility in the choose 3 meal plan, but I get it. Honestly the food is just so stellar it makes up for the rest and makes us keep coming back.

Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all. If you are more concerned with value, and don't mind some of the things I listed above, this place could work for you.

I happened to have reason to be in the shopping center one fateful day, and was hungry to boot. So I decided, I should stop in, if for nothing else, just to say I put it through it's paces. Inside, well, I kind of found what I expected. A well-worn restaurant, but importantly, very clean. Much of the decor has faded over time, but I don't see much reason to improve it. Looking into the kitchen, and just observing interactions, I would wager the same husband and wife combination have owned it the entire time. Though everything is dated, I do love that you can fully see the entire kitchen and sushi bar. I went for lunch, but was surprised there was not a lunch special menu of any kind. Standard in this area, you would usually find that. Same menu all day here. I ordered chicken yakisoba and a yellowfin scallion maki roll. Service was excellent, attentive but not overly so. You can tell the experience, as the same lady was working the whole place (about 8 tables occupied). My sushi roll came out first, no complaints. Fresh yellowfin tuna, the inclusion of scallions was a nice touch both for taste and texture. Appropriate amount of rice. This was great, maybe next time I will just go for sushi. My chicken yakisoba was a good portion, but I found it a bit bland generally. I asked for some ginger sauce to dip it in, and that helped a lot, but on its own I would have liked more flavor kick. The chicken however was cooked well, not dry at all. Overall, this place is not very close to me, but if in the area I would come again. I was just glad to have finally set foot in there after all this time, and find a family run place sticking to what they do best.
