It is lacking the kataifi (or knafeh) bits and I can barely taste the pistachio cream or tahini. The chocolate is probably overpowering the other flavors. Very pretty in presentation though. The blackforest cake is also lacking in the kirsch taste. I can barely taste it. Maybe I had a such a great tasting blackforest cake before that many places do not match up to it. Bottom line: just get the shortbread cookie. Get the cakes only if you're really craving it and this is the only place nearby for it.

I live in Honolulu and was going to Maple Ridge to see family & looking for 3 cakes to celebrate 3 birthdays, a gluten free cupcake, a delicious, special birthday cake for my sister & a regular cupcake. I spoke with Sara, a friendly, knowledgeable person. We discussed their popular cakes and I selected their black forest cake because Sara told me the cherries were special and delicious. My niece said that her gluten free chocolate cupcake was moist and had a good texture. I "accidently tasted the buttercream frosting and it was very good. The black forest cake was phenomenal, I have never tasted a better cake, and yes, the cherries were scrumptious! The whipped cream frosting was rich, delicious and tasted like 100% whipped cream. Dark chocolate shavings generously adorned the sides of the cake with plenty of loose shaving to have a taste. All 8 adults raved about the cake and agreed that it was the most delicious thing that they have ever tasted. When we arrived to pick-up the cake, we could not resist the yummy, well displayed cakes, muffins, giant cookies & variety of other baked goods. I selected a mini ginger bundt with cream cheese filling & crystalized ginger, pecan orange giant cookie & oatmeal raisin giant cookie. The bundt had a good balance of molasses complimented the cream cheese frosting. When I visit Maple Ridge again, I will be sure to stop by to load up on their goodies & another black forest cake...unfortunately, my niece is celiac and unable to indulge in most of the pastries. I was finally able to snatch a Surprise Bag and I absolutely loved it! I got two slices of their Vegan Matcha Raspberry + Pistachio Cake and their Vegan Vanilla Bean Shortbread. The cake was perfection. Perfectly moist, great matcha flavour, the matcha buttercream filling is heavenly, and the raspberries and pistachio compliments the cake. The shortbread cookie were also great.. finished them pretty quickly! I was really impressed. I am definitely planning on getting the next birthday cake from here cause they all look amazing. To my wonderful surprise, they offered many delicious sweets (yes, my fave!) like cupcakes, cookies, cakes and more! Everything we tried was delicious. My faves from the 12 things I ordered includes the red velvet cupcake, ginger cookie and cake pop. Selection-wise, they also offer some vegan, gluten friendly and dairy free options. If you're looking for custom cakes, you can get that from here too. The store itself is not huge and may be easy to miss while driving around in the complex. You can find them next to Original Joe's at the former Fido location. They have a few tables for seating so you can easily enjoy a sweet treat right away when you visit. BTW, make sure to check out their Instagram to see what other goodies they can make you. Everything is so pretty. On another note, their staff is super friendly too.
