But the reviews were good and it had a big menu. Walking in, we were greeted with a table filled with fresh baked bread for sale, and a display case full of cakes. The server welcomed us in - they were quite busy, but there was a large empty table in the middle of the room that we were able to sit at. I think the server's name was Cass - but I can't quite recall. Once she learned that it was our first time there, she gave us the full run down: All the bread is made in house The cakes are all Grammy's recipes, which she taught to her niece All the meat is cooked or smoked in house and - ham, turkey, beef etc The menu is large - almost overwhelming, but in a good way. Almost everything comes in half or full. I can't imagine anyone finishing a full meal here - their slogan is "bigger is better" and they really mean it. None of us were able to finish our meals and were left with the perfect amount for dinner later that evening. I ordered Whole Wheat toast with my breakfast and I'm not kidding when I say that it was the best toast I've ever had. I definitely would have bought a loaf to take home but you have to pre-order that one and it's only available on Thursdays :( Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back!

I love my fruit cake, however, I eat gluten free, therefore, it's hard to find a GF Christmas cake. The cost of these fruit cakes are a very modest and reasonable at $12 for an actual aged rum fruit cake. In addition to gluten free they also have vegan. Just a heads up that these guys will not be here in 2015, therefore, if you happen to get down to the fair this year pick up a pre-order book and it comes with a coupon. Even though it's mid November it officially feels like the holidays with my fruit cake. These cakes are 5 lbs each. I bought 2, therefore, if anyone was planning on attacking me on the way home my fruit cakes were heavy enough to be weapons.

Update re: baking mixes purchased…read more We have now tried and finished all the mixes that were purchased -- as follows: - blueberry chai hot cereal mix -- daughter purchased for Mom -- nice selection of ingredients -- prepared 'as is', without any additions of fruits, berries, or the like -- nice 'delicate' aroma, flavourful, and tasty -- she sure enjoyed it. - buttermilk pancake / waffle mix -- used for pancakes only -- prepared without any additions -- pancakes were light, fluffy, and sure good tasting -- 'the' best prepared product of its kind ever tasted -- much-enjoyed. - milk chocolate fudge brownie mix -- resulting brownies 'sweet & rich' -- very flavourful, and tasty. - plain scone mix -- prepared 'as is', without any additions -- scones light, fluffy, with a 'delicate' flavour -- tasty, and much-enjoyed. We were impressed!! and really enjoyed these 'Mother Hubbard's' prepared baking mixes. I ended up glad that several mixes had been purchased - they provided a very nice selection of products to sample the first time. An over used word, but 'yum', good stuff!!
