Marie (owner and primary trainer) is amazing with her students. Her number one concern is safety and she works carefully with each child to teach them at their pace and ability. She has several horses in her lesson program and they are all reliable and skilled. She will match the student with the horse she thinks is the best fit. We do not own a horse but if we did we would board it there. The horses are not kept in a stable (unless they are injured or ill), instead they are able to roam over her large property. She has several arenas for both Western and English riding. Marie is like family to us and we can't imagine ever going anywhere else!

You see, she has been crazy about horses since we took her for her first lesson when she was 5. We thought it was just a phase. Not so much. So she has hopped around the local horse stables looking for the perfect fit. Now we have finally found it. It is called Charlie Horse Equestrian Center. It is just outside Hutto, in Taylor, Texas. What we like about this stable is #1, the people. All summer I called around to different places only to be talked to rudely, not get called back, etc. Well, Marie and Jeff are different. They aim to please. They are extra friendly, great with kids and adults alike. The kids absolutely love them. Second, is, well, the cleanliness aspect. Now I know it is a "stable", which usually indicates "unclean.:" But the staff does their best to keep it as clean as possible. No barn cats jumping all over you. Few bugs. You get the picture. Third, it is a beautiful location. Well kept pasture. Green grass. Big shade trees for relaxing under while watching a lesson. I look forward to coming out to Charlie Horse Equestrian Center every Wednesday. It is the perfect location for your horse crazy kid.

Deirdre and her husband combine their strengths to make the dream team. They are constantly educating themselves and working with other subject matter experts in the equine facility to ensure the horses get the very best care. Nutrition, vet care, farrier work, body care, etc. Keeping the facility organized and providing clear communication to boarders and clients. Even holding barn meetings prior to implementing changes or upcoming seasonal changes. Deirdre is amazing with the horses. And while her focus is Dressage, she works to bring in jumping, western, & even equine vaulting trainers. Her clients range from casual owners up to those who show. But do not let that fool you, they do not tolerate drama. They do an amazing job of nipping it in the bud very early. From my going on 5 years of experience with them, they do an amazing job keeping it a "farmily" environment and caring for my horse.

My horse Rusty and I came to Guarded Heart in 2018 and we stayed until I needed to move for a new job. I love this place! Quiet, safe, great personalized care from people who really, truly love horses. They have both English and Western boarders. A nice arena with sand footing and lights, a perimeter-of-the-property riding trail that is fenced and safe for younger riders to use to build confidence, and an obstacle course in the making to allow you to work your horse from the ground or the saddle. Have a small round pen, too. In the spring, the grass is amazing. The barn has a large breezeway for tacking up, etc... Lockers, too. Clint, Heather, Lexi, and Michael took such great care of my horse that I left him with them for over 6 months while I got my new place ready for him to occupy in another city. They have been more than I could ask for when it came to loving and caring for Rusty in my absence, even taking him to the vet for me when necessary!! My horse required special care for a medical problem and they came to my rescue. No group of people could be better! We are happy in our new place, but we miss our barn family more than I can say. Rusty and I had a lot of fun and made amazing friends during our time at GHF. My endorsement is wholehearted. Best Barn Ever!!!

My youngest has attended many summer camps at Switch Willo Stables two Summers in a row now. She…read morereally enjoyed her time at the camps and always came home excited to share what she did with the horses. If she could change one thing about the camp, I am pretty sure she would have the campers spend more time actually riding the horses. Even though she felt she didn't get enough time riding horses ( I can't recall the amount of time the campers spent riding horses, but it did seem rather short at the time), however, she is always talking about returning to camp. My one complaint about the camp is that the "counselors" are older kids(12,13 and up) who have been riding at Switch Willo for a while. While I did find some of the "counselors" completely competent, others left me wondering if my 7 years old was more mature than her "counselors", which was obviously disconcerting. Fortunately, I never heard of any dangerous situations ( and I know I would have heard about any if they occurred because my daughter takes her "reporting" very seriously.). All in all, my daughter always left camp happy and exhausted, just the way we want her. ;)

There were multiple issues that I shared with the owner, Amy, such as the lack of detail and communication, unorganized scheduling, and an overall poor experience as an adult rider at this barn. When they pushed me to pay for a new month of lessons before I had even finished my previous months lessons I went ahead and paid ($480). After multiple issues scheduling with my trainer, including me arriving at the barn at 7am on a Sunday for no one to be there because they were out on a race and messed up scheduling, I decided that this barn wasn't the right fit for me. I asked for a refund of the $480 I paid only a couple day prior (which I had not used yet for any lessons) and their response was that they had already spent the money on horse feed and could not return me the money even though I hadn't taken any lessons for that month yet. Rather than fighting back and forth, I decided to just let them keep the money as it seems they were not in the position to return it and must've really needed it. However, I walked away feeling taken advantage of especially after all the money I had already invested at this barn. I even volunteered a day and came in bright and early to help with morning barn chores. Sad that it happened this way but I would suggest that if you are an adult rider or even a parent who wants to ensure your kids are getting lessons worth your money, that you explore your options first before riding here.
