This isn't just riding--it's a respectful, enriching partnership with incredible animals and land. Highly recommend for anyone serious about horses. Joan Marie and her team deliver excellence every time.

We had a really great time riding horses. My family came here during a trip to Austin, TX. We signed up for a 1 hour 15 minute total session with 45-50 minutes mounted on the horse. They do a really great job of ensuring the horses are ready and the equipment is secure. The kids were sent into the "dog park" to ensure they could handle their horse. Then we headed out for a ride around a pond and through the ranch. The horses were amazing and we all had a great time. It was a highlight of our trip. The scenery was beautiful, the ride was peaceful, the experience was unforgettable. My only issue was that my wife and I were asked to walk the horses around with the kids in the "dog park". After that, my wife was able to go in to get used to her horse. But by the time I got mounted, we were off. The owner asked me how long I thought I'd been on the horse so far, I said, "5 minutes." She replied that it has most definitely been longer than 5 minutes. She claimed 20 minutes. Those were part of our mounted ride. So, my 45 minutes in the saddle was taken down to about 30. Still a highlight of the trip. I was glad the owner was with a different group. Our guides were awesome!

This is not ordinary, horses can't wait to get back to the barn riding! This is a teaching ranch and all the staff are passionate riding teachers. Ann Marie's staff, particularly Lynn, were excellent, completely engaged and so attentive to our particular ride, horse's, etc. Tireless in their instruction and passion for what they do. Even my well ridden friend learned a lot! Very enjoyable experience. Can recommend the Horsemanship Trail Ride. Well worth the small additional cost. Pick this ranch now and never regret it Gratefully, Kevin

My experiences with Mavericks have been nothing short of exceptional. Having ridden with them twice now, I can confidently say they offer an unparalleled adventure for horse enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. I rode a lot as a kid, and have recently gotten back into it. Joan Marie, Eryn, and Deb have created an environment for me that is so welcoming, informative, and fun while keeping everyone safe. The property in Lockhart is a hidden gem, and I highly recommend reaching out about taking an adventure ride off of the property. They are always down for an adventure, and the horses are too! Their level of training and the amount of love that has been invested in them is clearly evident. I am a huge fan of Charlotte and Coca! The memories created during these rides will last a lifetime. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a beginner, Maverick's provides an experience that caters to all levels, leaving you with a deeper appreciation for horsemanship. This is not your typical trail ride - they adjust for your skill and comfort level to provide a once in a lifetime adventure. I wholeheartedly recommend Maverick's to anyone seeking an unforgettable trail riding experience. Their dedication to excellence and their love for horses and nature, makes every ride an absolute delight. I eagerly anticipate my next ride at Maverick's and encourage everyone to book theirs today!

What an amazing morning! We started off by enjoying an amazing sunrise at the 100+ acre ranch. Then, we were taught about the importance of grooming the horses before putting them to work, and how to properly brush them. Since the purpose of the morning was to learn how to properly lead a horse, we practiced on the ranches course. Then, our leader (Joan-Marie) lead us from the ranch to downtown Lockhart! We practiced how to safely lead the horses across the streets, how to keep a safe distance from other horses while keeping the group together without large gaps. All in all, I learned a lot today! I do not consider myself a "horse person," but today was so incredibly fun! I highly recommend experiencing Maverick!

Absolutely wonderful. Joanne and her son Sammy are AMAZING and passionate instructors. Id trust them with my life. They made this experience one I'll never forget. They were very attentive and informal when guiding and giving instructions. Their horses are not robots who just follow a trail, you have to build a relationship with the horse and I found that so enjoyable. Beautiful views on their ranch as well. Such a therapeutic ride. I'll be recommending this place to everyone I know and I can't wait to plan a trip to come back and do this again.

It's so nice to have an indoor hands on interactive learning place for the young ones! It's fun and pretty clean. We were so generously gifted a family membership for Christmas by our family friends and it was perfect! The STEAM hands on learning and activities really engages children of all ages. My 7 year old and 4 year old enjoy it here. My 6 month old will get into it soon enough. No food or drinks inside the museum. The water zone is nice that it has smocks and crocs for kids to wear and change into to avoid getting wet and slipping. There is also an outdoor playscape and water tables to get into. And while the indoor reptile area is small, my kids always have fun finding where everything is hiding nonetheless. The indoor welcome center has so much for them to learn and touch, and they love bringing things to turn in to the front desk to collect points and coins to use in the "shop". I highly recommend! Great for a homeschool field trip too :)

My daughter recently received a betta fish for her birthday, and I wanted to upgrade her tank with driftwood and plants. Since I'm new to this, I was looking forward to asking the "experts" a few questions. Unfortunately, that excitement disappeared the moment I walked in. As soon as I entered, the older gentleman behind the counter looked directly at me and then immediately turned away without saying a word. He wasn't helping anyone at the time. I walked around the store for a while and noticed a young woman cleaning items nearby. Not once did she greet me or ask if I needed help. When I was looking at the driftwood display, she walked by, so I asked a question. She gave me what felt like a dirty look, gave a very quick answer, and walked away. I initially thought maybe she was busy helping other customers, but that didn't seem to be the case. What made the experience worse was what happened next. While I was still browsing near the entrance, several other customers walked in. Every single one of them was greeted by the gentleman behind the counter. I hate to even bring this up, but it left me wondering why my experience was so different. I'm a Hispanic male with tattoos, and every other customer who was greeted appeared to be white with no visible tattoos. I truly hope that wasn't the reason, but I honestly can't think of another explanation for the difference in treatment. Either way, it was disappointing. I had specifically chosen to visit a local specialty shop because I wanted the advice and expertise that comes with it. Instead, I left feeling unwelcome and will likely just go to a big box store instead--something I was hoping to avoid. I hope this isn't the normal experience for customers, but it was certainly mine today.

The owner has been crying about my review to Yelp over and over, begging for it to be deleted over…read moreand over. Because he has no real defense about my critique, he's been straw manning that my review is "mean" and "hateful" -- haha this is what softies in America do these days. My family and I visited this place in early Sept 2025. Like many other negative reviews state, the animals are in a sad state. They have something called the Giraffe Experience there, where you gotta pay $5 per person, they give you lettuce, and you go up on a platform to feed the giraffes. There was an employee -- I requested the Giraffe Experience from her. She condescendingly explained to us that they were out of lettuce to feed the giraffe, so we couldn't do it. I asked, "Well, can we at least go up on the platform to see the giraffe from up there?" She rudely replied "You can, but you'd still have to pay the full price of $5/person." I started to say something, but she rudely said "Think about it and let me know", turned her back to me, and walked away. How rude! I walked over to her at the front desk and asked "Well, since y'all ran out of the food, and we'd just go up to the platform to see the giraffe, could we at least get a discount?" Now here, the defensive Owner will say "It was after Labor Day weekend and we ran out of lettuce!" This is such a lame excuse. Labor Day weekend and resultant high volume demand from it is completely predictable, and the correct action by them would have been to anticipate that and stockpile lettuce accordingly. This is basic inventory mgmt that any decent business owner should know. But this guy just makes excuses. But that's fine, I get it, rinky dink business owner is an amateur and made an inventory mistake by running out of lettuce. Fine. Then take ownership of that mistake and make up for it to your customers by letting them at least go up on the platform for free. Why on earth should they still have to pay the $5 bc YOU ran out of lettuce? It is illogical. The point wasn't the money, it's the principle... despite them screwing up by not having lettuce, this employee, instead of being apologetic and trying to make it up to us somehow, was rude and dismissive. I then asked to speak to the Manager. As is unfortunately often the case, rather than let me speak to him, she went into his office (which was right there, adjacent to the front desk), and biased him to her version. The Manager told her no, and she came and smugly told me the same thing. I was of course right in the doorway, the Manager could've easily talked to me directly, but he did not. So I asked him directly this time "I understand y'all ran out of the lettuce, and that's ok, but if we only go up to the platform to see the giraffe, sans lettuce, shouldn't there be a discount on the fee?" He started giving me the standard bureaucrat-flexing-his-muscles excuses of why they couldn't do that. Again, condescending and dismissive. I told him "Ok, this is unfortunate bc until now we've had a good experience here. But now I'll have to leave a negative review." He said he was fine with that. I asked him for his name. He refused to give it to me, instead stating "You can look it up on our website." And he was lying about this btw -- his name is not on the website. If they guy is gonna take a stand, why not share his name? And this from a "Manager" who is in the customer service business, unbelievable. Again, don't expect any ownership or apology from this Owner. He's gonna leave defensive comments, and then go cry to Yelp to have it taken down, again. Look at all the other negative reviews of this place -- that tells you what you need to know. There was barely anyone here when we went -- it will likely be out of business anytime. And with this kind of ownership, management, and employees, it's no surprise why.

The event post noted one price and when we got to the event, we were told it would cost extra to glaze the bowl which was a necessary step make the clay piece food-safe. We were making dog bowls so of course we wanted them to be food-safe but it was a bummer that we would have to pay an additional fee on top of what we had already paid. I was charged more than others in my group! We were instructed to make our bowls outside on the picnic tables which weren't flat surfaces. The event poster also stated that we could shape our clay by hand or use the spinning wheel. The spinning wheels weren't even offered to us. Overall, I attended this event to make new friends and create something nice for my dog. I accomplished both so that was a win! While I most likely won't come back, this business is a fun concept that is great for groups of young children and I even saw a mother bring in her young daughter with her to glaze pottery together which was so sweet but the pricing and timing to pick up your artwork could be clearer. Also parking is very limited so park next door at the gymnasium.

I said they said that the children cannot ride this any longer because the saddle is broken and then after that, they let someone Ride the horse with knowing that the saddle is broken. I did not have a good feeling about that, so I took my child far away from the horse just in case something was going to happen the bunnies, the ducks, the little chickens. The goats were very cute. Children tried to pick them up. Man said no do not pick up the animals, but the way he said it it was in the little rude way the child started to run and come to its parent at that point I came up and I said please don't speak to the child this way because mine also is playing with the animals. I spoke to one of the coworkers and said how long have you worked here and is it a good company because I have others who want to use the company for a birthday party for the children and they said yes but it's my first day so therefore I have a lot of questions because I came to this job thinking I was trained and there is no training and now I am having to tell children not to pick up the animals and they're unhappy because the parents said that they can't ride the horse so the children became very unhappy because the party was cut short. Sounds like the people who are working need more training and need to be able to know that if the saddle is broken, you need to fix it before bringing it to the party and please don't vape or smoke any other electronic cigarettes at the party because that was very concerning as adults have seen you And you are working for one of the families. You should know that there is no smoking at a child's party so your boss should've trained you better and you should know better as adult. I was very concerned when I seen the man smoking electronics at the birthday party and I have spoken to one of the parents about it and that was not allowed that was not in the contract that was signed and verbally spoken about also Safety. Concern of a child is very important. That is something that's going to be spoken about to others.
