Great for kids and those who haven't ridden before (they tailor the ride to experience level). Through streams and hills very scenic

Great experience with friends for a bachelorette. Booking was personalized. I was able to ask about different options to customize the event. We ended up selecting skeet shooting. We arrived on time, checked in and signed the waivers. There are lots of farm cats and a dog just FYI. Once ready, you get a hay ride to the skeet shooting spot from your instructor. Once you arrive, your instructors take it from there - safety instructions, demos etc. We had a ton of fun! Many of us had never even shot a gun before so this was fun and competitive. Once that was done, we got to pet some of the horses and the team had helped us receive our lunch order (via DoorDash). We ended up taking our lunch back to our Airbnb because it was just so hot in the honkey tonk barn. Overall, I would go this again and even try the horse trail ride! read more

Phenomenal Experience -- We'll Be Back! My sister and I booked the last two available spots for a completely spur-of-the-moment horseback ride with @texastrailrides at @lonestarranchtexas, and wow... it was absolutely phenomenal. What a perfect way to start our first adventure of the year, especially in the Year of the Horse This year, we've decided to create moments instead of buying things, and this experience was everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, everything felt easy and welcoming. The instructions were clear and simple, making the ride comfortable even if you haven't been on a horse in a while. Our instructor, Annabelle, was AMAZING -- knowledgeable, calm, kind, and truly attentive the entire time. I had the honor of riding Poncho, a strong, steady, and beautiful horse. There was something incredibly grounding about simply walking the trails, crossing through water, and fully trusting him to guide us safely -- and he absolutely did. That connection, that peace, that trust... unforgettable. We enjoyed this experience so much that we already know we'll be back in March, and we plan to end this year the same way we started it -- on horseback, making memories together. If you're looking for horseback riding in Texas, I highly recommend this trail ride. It's peaceful, empowering, well-guided, and truly soul-filling. Thank you @texastrailrides, @lonestarranchtexas, Annabelle, and Poncho -- we can't wait to ride again read more

I've been twice now, last July and again today. I just can't fathom a better trail riding experience. From the highly knowledgeable, skilled, and friendly guides (today we were with the lovely Ariel), to the gentle and very well trained horses, to the surroundings (550 secluded acres) that you won't believe are actually in Austin-- it's just a wonderful experience. Highly recommend the first in the AM ride to avoid some heat in the summer. I'm certainly a beginner, I think this was my 5th ride in my life but given how well the horses are prepared along with the teaching the guides provide, I felt very safe and was really able to enjoy the ride. Be sure to arrive 30min before the scheduled ride to sign waivers, get helmets, and a mini lesson. We will definitely be returning! Thank you! read more

Texas Trail Rides is located off the beaten path on Lone Star Ranch. From the moment we drove onto the ranch, we felt like we were transported into real "Texas." The horses and the staff made our evening ride such an enjoyable experience. The horses were well trained and were easy to ride even for beginners. The trail we rode on was quite scenic and one of my favorite parts of the ride was the creek that we rode through in the beginning of the ride. Our guide was friendly and informative about the horses and the ranch. I was impressed with the ranch and especially appreciated how all of the horses seemed to be well taken care of and were excited to go on the ride. The day we went was nearly 100 degrees so I was a bit concerned with the heat for the horses but our guide reassured me that the horses were used to this type of heat. I would recommend Texas Trail Rides for anyone interested in horse back riding in the Austin area. read more

The management was disorganized. I arrived well before my ride and wasn't treated very well. I was nearly ignored when I arrived. The new manager could use a class or two in public relations and being kind to promote recurring clients. read more

I scheduled a summer day camp for two of my kids, and a Buckaroo class for my youngest who just turned 4. It took a couple tries to get through on the phones, but once I did, the staff were super friendly and helpful in getting us booked. I had questions about days and scheduling, and the owner Ms. Tina was able to get on the phone and make things happen for me. As the day of camp approached, they sent an email reminder and a while sheet of stuff to bring, to leave behind, and what to expect. The drive to the ranch from Circle C was pretty straightforward, though I did have to make a U-turn when I missed the turn into their driveway (it's was hard for me to see the numbers). Their new Lonestar Ranch is great. They've done a great job landscaping and maintaining it. Ms. Kara led a fabulous Buckaroo class. She went through the basics of brushing and cleaning a horse, and then led him on a 20-30ish min ride. So perfect! I'd highly recommend this for anyone with a toddler/youngster. My kids LOVED the horses, the counselors, and the entire camp. They're begging to return. Thanks Tina! read more

At my ripe, eh, middle-aged, age I had never sat on a horse, and to be honest, them's big animals.... But I had a very enjoyable ride. This place borders on some pretty trails, so you get to follow the trails, ride up/down the banks of a creek and cross the creek. The full western experience. The people at the ranch were all very pleasant, and had no problem masking when they needed to be close to us. Warmly recommended. read more

I did not want to leave this place! I haven't been riding in years and this place, the people, the horses (of course), were TOP notch. Madison was the BEST guide. Definitely coming back for rides, and hopefully lessons! Shoutout to Zorro. :) read more

My long-distance boyfriend from Western New York has never been on a horse before, and I had to make sure we didn't leave Texas one last time before getting him on a solid Texas Hill Country trail ride. Thankfully, Texas Trail Rides set it up for us when we were in a pinch! I called Texas Trail Rides at Lonestar Ranch around 8:30 this morning asking if they had any last minute rides that my long-distance boyfriend and I could jump in on before we flew back to his home in Western New York later this afternoon. Luckily, they had availability and got us on a trail ride at noon. They set you up with your horse based on your height, weight, and experience. Horses have personalities, as well, and some can get pretty stubborn, kind of like when we get hangry when we need to eat! Anyways, they set us up with our horses, taught the newbies how to steer a horse, and how to comfortably hold the reins while sitting in your saddle - and off we went!! We seriously got lucky because the weather was beautiful, the Texas wildflowers were all in bloom, and EVERYTHING was green. I was born and raised in Austin, so I didn't take it in until I noticed that the couple we rode with (they were from Virginia) were really ohhh-ing and ahhhh-ing over the scenery. After we came home and told my family how much fun we had, they all said they were very jealous and want to take my niece out for an outing once she is old enough to climb up on a horse! Hopefully, I can get my WNY boyfriend back out there again so he can feel more comfortable on the back of a horse. Plus, I think it would be awesome to see the rest of Lonestar Ranch and try out their skeet + trap shoot, axe throwing, archery, and definitely do some barrel racing! read more

We were supposed to just have a quick 45 minute trail ride, but since it rained so much the night before, the water in the creek rose and the trail was wet and muddy. Who would have thought instead of canceling on us or having us reschedule, the owner Tina went out of her way to give our bachelorette party the best time ever. She set us up in the arena and with her cowgirls and cowboys, we were given instructions on how to not only ride our horses, but round up some young cows and do some barrel racing (much slower motion on our end. Lol.) We also got to learn to rope a "steer" (a fake one of course). If it were real, I think it would have end up roping us. The girls had THE BEST time. The bachelorette even said this made her want to take up horseback riding if she could one day. She loved it so much. Well, hopefully we will be back. Thank you so much Tina and Co. for all your wonderful hospitality. We will not forget what an amazing time we had there. This was definitely the highlight of our bachelorette weekend. read more

Such a great time!! Highly recommend. I was visiting, but if I lived in Austin, I'd be there as often as I could. Everything was very professional and fun:) read more

So I am visiting Austin by myself for a few days and really wanted to go on a ride. I called them a few days in advance to make reservations. They had plenty of days and times available, so very flexible. I also got a confirmation email with all the do's and don'ts to prepare for the ride (long pants, closed shoes, some water, etc.). Today I went on a 1.5h trail ride at the new Lonestar Ranch location which is only 15 minutes from the center of Austin! It was super easy to find when you plug in the address into your gps and then look for their sign on the main road. All of the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. I showed up in time, signed the waiver, got my helmet and was ready to go. I was the only person on the ride, along with my wonderful guide. The owner, Miss Tina was so nice, giving me her personal cutest cupcake named Batman. I loved him! Since this ranch is new, we went to explore some of the trails. Some spots are out in the sun but most of the time there are enough trees and branches to keep you shaded. The trails are narrow (but wide enough to maneuver around) so you do ride mostly in a single file. You cross the creek a few times, so your horse can grab a sip and you get a minute to breathe. It was a really relaxing nature experience and definitely a good break from all the Downtown Austin buzz. read more

Normally I don't do negative reviews, but this time I will. Starting with the reservation that has a ridiculous policy of charging 25% cancellation fee, even for cancellations made before 72 hours of the booked date and 100% penalty for cancellations made within 72 hours. Incidentally, this policy is only communicated clearly after the reservation is made and the credit card is debited. At the time of booking, it is said that cancellation must be made before 72 hours to receive a refund, but it is not clear that the maximum refund is only 75% of the amount paid. Businesses are entitled to ask customers to pay a fee if they cancel - or to keep some of an upfront deposit - to cover their losses. But the amount they keep must be in proportion to what they are actually losing as a result of a cancellation. It doesn't seem fair and honest to charge a 25% fee for cancellations made 3 days in advance. What is the loss for the business if the cancellation occurs 3 days before the booked date? In fact, it seems to me that the cancellation fee really hurts consumer rights in Texas. The Texas contract laws cancellation rules read: "All deals that are not made at the seller's place of business are subject to the three-day right of termination law." Therefore, a purchase of horseback riding made over the phone seems to me to be covered by this law. Another ridiculous thing refers to the late arrival policy: guests that arrive late and miss ride times are not given refunds. There are several rides per day and it is very possible to accommodate a guest who arrives late. After all, the ride does not start exactly at the scheduled time, but at least 15-30 minutes late due to the extensive instructions given by the guide. Of the 90 minutes that should be a ride, 30 minutes are actually just talking. The ride itself looks more like a funeral procession as the horses are old and walk very slowly. My 12 year old daughters, the only minors in the group, found it extremely boring - they already canter and trot, but this was not asked and I doubt it would change the pace of the tour. My horse refused to walk on the trail, following only the grass (near thorny tree branches or close to fences) even with my command to follow the correct path. Fortunately I didn't have any injuries. At one point, the guide had to hold the reins on my horse towing him through the correct path, which makes me think that the animal was, perhaps, in some injury and pain. Unfortunately I'm not a vet and I can't say for sure, but what would explain his refusal to walk on hard ground and prefer to walk on grass. During the tour, which can in no way be called a Trail Lesson, there is a crossing of a creek with many rocks. While crossing this stream, my horse stumbled a few times, reinforcing my hypothesis that he was in pain or weak. The service offered is definitely not worth $125 per person. Here are examples of similar rides with more decent prices and honest policies: Brazos Bluffs Ranch ($79/hour - free cancellation), Westcreek Trail Rides ($40/hour - $30 for groups of 6 or more riders). Even if the price of $125 was fair, the cancellation fee doesn't really seem like a fair and honest practice to me. read more

Well probably ask for the same horses and Definitely Ariel next time, and they're will be many more next times! Do yourself a favor and give this place your business. Haven't been horseback riding in years but these people have it down to a science. They match people up by their size and skill level with horses and also allow a mini lesson to help riders get acquainted. My teena had never been riding before and the lesson helped then navigate. Planned on going here for my friend's bachelorette weekend... Could not travel there from Kansas due to COVID, and Texas's virus situation is spiraling out of control. We had no choice but to cancel. They only gave us a partial refund- I feel like this was the wrong move considering it's an "act of God". They were not great at being communicative with our group organizer, on top of that. It's just bad business. Also we cancelled over a month before our reservation so if they really aren't taking the virus seriously, like many Texans are not, they should have had no trouble booking somebody else for that day- plenty of time to fill that gap. read more

My family had such a great time on our recent horseback riding adventure. Our wrangler Jessica was the best. She made sure all of us had an appropriate horse for our skill level and that all the horses in our group were well paired also. Off we went for an hour ride in some beautiful terrain including ranch roads, forest and creeks. We had a great time. My 9 year old daughter and I are in Austin for the week while my son was at an athletic camp and we decided to book a trail ride for a half day experience. My daughter rides every week and I have not ridden in years. The woman who booked our trail ride took the time to find out about our experience level and was very professional and friendly. When we arrived, we were a bit late because I am not familiar with the area and Yelp guided us to their previous location. They were welcoming, the facility is clean and the horses were all tacked up and ready. Danielle was our trail guide and she was great about balancing our different experience levels and an ensuring a great experience for both of us. She was professional and friendly. It was fun to get to know her and valuable to have someone willing to share her experience growing up as a rider and competitor with my daughter. The ride itself was challenging and exhilarating for both of us but we always felt completely safe. They went the extra mile for my daughter and I so appreciate it. We hope to be back next year! read more

What a great and fun experience!! My girlfriend and I are from out of town and both of us have experience riding horses. We wanted to ride some horses but didn't want to get stuck with a beginners group. We explained our history with horses over the phone, prior to booking, and the owner was more than happy to help accommodate us with a more advanced ride. Once we arrived Kara, our guide introduced us to our horses while also getting a feel for our experience level. Because we weren't regular customers they just wanted to know a little bit about us and our horseback riding experience before deciding which type of trail to take us down. The ride was a great way to spend the day and our guide was really friendly and made sure we got a bit of a challenge out of the ride!!! The scenery was incredible as wel. We went through several creek crossings, thick forested areas, high grass, cactus filled meadows and some steeper inclines and declines. All in all it was a great experience and when we come visit Austin again we will be sure come back and visit! read more
