When I arrived to pick my son up at the end of camp today, he was filling a horse trough and helping with the grooming of Skittles; the newest horse at the stable. This camp/ stable provides lessons without the "fluff". Sydney (the owner) is very direct, open and honest about what it takes to learn to ride and care for a horse. Within the first day, my son learned how to care for a horse as well as was able to trot on a horse without an equestrian saddle. *COVID protocols are followed during the pandemic

I believe in giving horses lots of room and here there's a great multi acre pasture below a great shaded hillside. There's a nice round pen and really nice level arena with great footing. It's also one of the most affordable hunter/jumper facilities in Austin for boarding and lessons, and relatively convenient to town (especially with the new tollway to Manor). I'm an experienced rider who took lessons here for many years. I only boarded a young prospect for a short period of time, and so relied on other owners and Stacie to provide me with horses to jump in lessons and take to shows. There was always an interesting and challenging horse available to me, and even a couple that I connected with and will remember forever. As for facilities, there are two outdoor arenas. One is grass footing, and the other is a large sand arena where the lessons are usually conducted. The barns are airy and clean, and there are plenty of acre sized paddocks for turnout. I believe there are even some trails through the woods, but I never used them.

There were multiple issues that I shared with the owner, Amy, such as the lack of detail and communication, unorganized scheduling, and an overall poor experience as an adult rider at this barn. When they pushed me to pay for a new month of lessons before I had even finished my previous months lessons I went ahead and paid ($480). After multiple issues scheduling with my trainer, including me arriving at the barn at 7am on a Sunday for no one to be there because they were out on a race and messed up scheduling, I decided that this barn wasn't the right fit for me. I asked for a refund of the $480 I paid only a couple day prior (which I had not used yet for any lessons) and their response was that they had already spent the money on horse feed and could not return me the money even though I hadn't taken any lessons for that month yet. Rather than fighting back and forth, I decided to just let them keep the money as it seems they were not in the position to return it and must've really needed it. However, I walked away feeling taken advantage of especially after all the money I had already invested at this barn. I even volunteered a day and came in bright and early to help with morning barn chores. Sad that it happened this way but I would suggest that if you are an adult rider or even a parent who wants to ensure your kids are getting lessons worth your money, that you explore your options first before riding here.

Bonus: every staff member, boarder, and rider I've met has been warm and welcoming. No one is pretentious or snobby and everyone seems to be there for the joy of riding and the pursuit of horsemanship, not ribbons. Drama Free facility with amazing leadership who truly puts the horse first…read more I have boarded my horse with Deirdre for going on 5 years now and in training for going on 6 months now and can think of no where better to be. Deirdre and her husband combine their strengths to make the dream team. They are constantly educating themselves and working with other subject matter experts in the equine facility to ensure the horses get the very best care. Nutrition, vet care, farrier work, body care, etc. Keeping the facility organized and providing clear communication to boarders and clients. Even holding barn meetings prior to implementing changes or upcoming seasonal changes. Deirdre is amazing with the horses. And while her focus is Dressage, she works to bring in jumping, western, & even equine vaulting trainers. Her clients range from casual owners up to those who show. But do not let that fool you, they do not tolerate drama. They do an amazing job of nipping it in the bud very early. From my going on 5 years of experience with them, they do an amazing job keeping it a "farmily" environment and caring for my horse.
