Thank you for the completely destroyed pizza, I really appreciate it. First and last order at this location.

Best little Cesar's I've had in my life! Super cheesy and delicious! They could use a little more sauce, but wow it was Delish!

I had a coupon that said no purchase necessary for some bread sticks. They wouldn't accept it because I bought a pizza? WTF????

The best pizza ever...and I've eaten a lot of pizza in a lot of places. The pizza itself would be a…read more5. By-the-slice can be limited at the street level window due to its popularity, but I've never had a bad slice even when I ordered something I wasn't sure I'd like. When dining upstairs the service is just okay at best. The servers can be pleasantish enough, but not super-efficient in how they manage serving customers. I say that as a former wait person of 10+ years. I've been there when it's been packed and when it's pretty mellow. In the summer, upstairs can be as hot as what you think the front porch into Hell might feel like. In winter, don't sit by the windows even though they're closed. One dude making pizza and serving downstairs at the slice/pick-up window can get kind of grumpy. He reminds me of Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi." Kill him with kindness, and it'll work out in the end. In spite of that, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather get pizza. There IS a place off a highway near Nyack, New York, but it's a MUCH longer trip. Pizza here is a solid 5, service upstairs is a 3, service downstairs is a 1-5 depending on the direction of the wind, ambience is a 3+ because even though it's really probably a 2 in most people's eyes, the building is old, funky, has history, and I like that.

The service is friendly, knowledgeable and excellent and the food is creative and interesting. Whidbey tends to do classic dishes well but is a bit light on the innovative creative dishes - this place makes up for that gap. We had the asparagus special on a potato puree which we loved as well as the "Curd" pizza which was super interesting. Bonus is the Roost has a water view!

I mean, wood-fired oven, eclectic ingredients, and local sourcing. What's not to like, right? Well... We ordered the sausage and added their garlic mushroom special topping. While the crust had just the right amount of char, it was really chewy. It may be grown and milled locally, but it lacked the crispness and airiness of a good Napolitano pizza crust. Also, we paid an additional $8 for the mushrooms. There were minuscule amounts on our pizza. There wasn't that much of sausage, either. We ordered a glass of Sangiovese and another of Tempranillo. They were imported and fairly acidic. Why not take advantage of the great WA wines? The guy handling the orders (dark hair and a good amount of ink) was great. He apologized that they had just run out of the Walla Walla onions we wanted to add to our pizza. He gave us a reasonably good estimate of the wait time. When we finished our wines and decided to change our dine-in to to-go, he made it happen with no issues, despite dealing with a long line of people placing orders.

They have menus by the window, and you order at the counter, we found ample seating near the windows to look upon the passerbyers. We ordered cold items so they wouldn't take too long up prep; a side of macaroni salad, a Keegan-the-Vegan sandwich and a Honey Lavender Latte to share. Everything was lovely and a perfect portion for us, splitting the sandwich and the creamy mac salad. The sandwich had curried chickpea salad and it was delicious! The Lavender Latte was perfection, not to sweet but a yes in the lavender world. We overheard others come in specifically for their cookies, so we grabbed a coco loco to go. It was filled with coconut and macadamia nuts, was so perfectly moist in the center. Thank you Krista for looking after us!

There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.
