    Playful Wine Pairings - Cheeto
    Beth A.

I host a women's bar hop every other Friday, and this was our first night exploring Cleveland Park. I picked three spots for the group: Nanny O'Brien's, Atomic, and Little Blackbird. I had no idea Little Blackbird would completely steal the show. I used to have a little wine bar in my neighborhood before I moved to D.C., one of those cozy spots with big chairs and no reservations needed. I assumed Little Blackbird would be that kind of place. It is not. It is so much more. When we arrived, the place was packed and they were fully booked. I figured we would just move on, but the manager, who was absolutely phenomenal, took my name and number anyway. About thirty minutes later, she called to say they had a table for us on the other side of the restaurant. It was technically a different concept, but they still served the full Little Blackbird menu. That gesture alone said everything about their service. Once we sat down, it only got better. Their playful wine pairings are such a fun twist. I went with the Cheeto pairing, which was phenomenal, and a few others tried the Reese's and Smarties ones. We learned they even do a Girl Scout Cookie pairing in March, and I already know I will be back for that. The staff are passionate about wine and happy to let you sample even the delicate, higher end pours. It feels like they want you to have a genuine experience, not just a glass of wine. Even though it was a bar hop night and food was not really on the plan, I ended up ordering the gnocchi, which changes seasonally. The fall version was incredible, served in a pumpkin squash sauce with pumpkin seeds and a parmesan cream that sounded odd but worked perfectly. Every bite was rich and balanced. If I could give six stars, I would. The food, the wine, and the service were all phenomenal, but what really stood out was how much fun they make it. It felt playful, elevated, and just special. Little Blackbird made our night and will definitely be part of future bar hops.

Note: I'm a bit stingy with my "5 star" places, reserving that rating for when my proverbial socks are knocked off, but Little BlackBird is definitely up there. One of the best to be in that space and on its stretch in Cleveland Park. Have been coming to the space since it was a couple other different places. Food: The family we were with really liked her Traditional, house "Tart Flambee" -- it's a thin, flatbread pizza and her Scallops (not pictured. Our wonderful server also noted you can double the Sea Scallops (getting 4 for $18 instead of 2) to make it a main course (do this, it's the better deal) I really liked the warm freshness of my hearth roasted garden veggies appetizer and my wife loved her hummus platter, which we all nibbled on. The croutons were so addictive! I also liked my Gnocchi main quite a bit, but I also think it would've popped more with a pass of fresh ground pepper. So, ask for that. I know I will next time. My wife loved her Scallops main, and honestly they were done to perfection. We got the suggested wine pairing for our mains--the family we were with isn't drinking, which Little BlackBird was very accomodating of--and both of the suggested wines were excellent. A nice date night spot, or just a "nice meal out."

This wine bar is a 10 out of 10! They offer wine pairings with everything on the menu. The service was impeccable and so was the food. We went on NYE and the ambiance was so festive! The waiter was a sommelier and suggested some phenomenal wines! The food was also very delicious. Hot and fresh! I can't wait to go back.

Little Blackbird is one of my new favorite DC staples! The food is so delicious-- a friend and I split a bunch of the menu items including the hamachi, halloumi, and scallops. The scallops were SO good we ordered seconds. Little Blackbird sources a variety of different wines and they sell wines by the bottle or glass with various ounce pours and we tried a white Burgundy, an orange wine, and another red wine. Our server Yousef was not only knowledgeable but an excellent "host" and treated us like family. Highly recommend for all but especially wine enthusiasts!

I am so sad we haven't been here before (in four years you would think we'd have tried it!). But now that we have, I can confidently say we will be back. First off, I want to say that our server, Eva, was fantastic. She was attentive (despite being so busy!) and had so much charisma. She helped us figure out what wine to get and was just all around amazing. But let's talk about food... to start off, my boyfriend and I ordered the traditional tarte flambé which had bacon lardons, onion, and Gruyère cheese. It was so simple but flavorful! And he ordered the rose while I ordered orange wine. He loved the rose and I wish we had taken a picture of it because he was obsessed (next time!). For entrees, I ordered the pork chop which had a bourbon caramel, roasted potatoes, and charred apples. It was savory yet sweet and had the perfect amount of umami. Plus the pork was cooked perfectly. He had the coq au vin. That sauce is heavenly. Eva was very sweet and grabbed him pita (side note, the pita was awesome) so that he could soak up that sauce. It had olives and mushrooms as well. For dessert, we got the butterscotch pudding and the chocolate brioche cake. The cake was probably the best thing I've ever had. The chocolate ganache underneath was so decadent! The Chantilly cream was a nice light touch especially because it is otherwise very rich. The ambiance is so wonderful and very European-esque. The mood lighting was so romantic and the wall decor was also really fun too! I genuinely can't wait to come back.

Really enjoyed my experience here the other day. The decor is nice and they have outdoor seating. Our waiter was very friendly and explained the menu and wine pairing options since it was my first time. I had the scallops and hummus plater and a glass of white wine. Everything was really tasty but you do not get a ton of food for the price, so just know that going in depending on what you get. I would definitely go back for a date night.

This restaurant offers a truly unique and charming concept: a single entrance that splits into two distinct dining experiences--Mediterranean and Global (Little Blackbird). The ambiance is absolutely adorable; the decor and setting are very cute and create a lovely atmosphere for an evening out. I dined on the Global Cuisine side, Little Blackbird, and while the setting was wonderful, the food was disappointing, unfortunately leading to a less-than-stellar dining experience. I tried two different main courses, neither of which were enjoyable: Hearty Bronzino: This dish was overwhelmingly dominated by the taste of wine. The wine flavor completely masked the delicate flavor of the fish, making it unenjoyable and difficult to eat. Autumn Gnocchi: This dish suffered from an extreme imbalance of herbs. It was heavily seasoned with either thyme or rosemary--or both--to the point where the herbal flavor was completely overwhelming and made the gnocchi practically inedible. I would recommend coming here for the unique, cute ambiance and perhaps just stick to enjoying a glass of their wine selection or possibly trying a dessert. However, based on my experience, I would completely avoid the main courses until the kitchen refines the balance of flavors in their savory dishes. I hope to return in the future to see if the food improves because the location and setting are truly special!

Had a nice dinner here. The wine list is very extensive as you would expect with some unique and interesting options. The menu for entrees is a bit limited and pricy but we did enjoy the chicken Milanese. Also tried the chocolate bread pudding for dessert, which was very rich. Cute atmosphere with friendly service.

Reviewing after our second visit, and let me say, it was just as we remembered. Phenomenal!! We recommend Little Blackbird to everyone. Outstanding service, Youseff was very helpful and friendly. But so were the rest of the staff. I really felt spoiled on my birthday! The wine is fun, you can get a half glass and try a few. My pork chop was excellent, as was the daily sausage with Persian spices. And don't skip the butterscotch pudding, unless you've had it here--you haven't tasted anything like this.

We've been coming to this location since it was a few different previous restaurants. Good thing it remained a restaurant through all the changes, unlike some of the other storefronts in that block. Anyway finally made it here for a birthday dinner (we usually keep it quiet so can't say how the restaurant would handle special occasions). Menu's not extensive but there are beef (petit fillet) and fish (bronzino) dishes which are basically all we needed. Also got the roasted veggies as the entrees don't come with sides as well as butterscotch pudding. Good food, well prepared. None of the desserts are to my liking however (definitely not a pudding fan) so that was a bit disappointing. Overall, a charming neighborhood restaurant with a nice intimate interior and somewhat different atmosphere from its sister restaurant - Sababa - next door even though the two are connected on the inside.

Little Blackbird was on my radar, so I was excited to finally try it. It's so cute and cozy, with a lively atmosphere. It was packed, so service was slow, though our server was friendly. Recommendations are definitely needed and it was busy until right up until we left, which was just before 10. We shared the halloumi, warm olives, some charcuterie, the socca, and the branzino. We loved everything, but the halloumi and branzino were the standouts. Both were incredibly flavorful and I'd order again in a heartbeat. Our wines paired well with our meals. I did not order dessert, but my friend enjoyed her order of single malt butterscotch pudding. I'm always on the lookout for a charming wine bar with delicious food and Little Blackbird is definitely on the top of that list.

Have been eyeing Little Blackbird for a few months now and decided to check it out last night. I arrived at the bar around 5:15 on a Friday night - there was one seat towards the other end of the bar taken, and within 20-30 minutes, the bar was full (it has 8 seats). I had a reservation, but prefer bar dining often so I was glad to be able to grab a bar seat. They were kind enough, when I told them my husband was joining me, to lay a menu on the bar area next to me to "hold" the seat for my husband. The bartender, Kyle, took excellent care of us all night. He started me off with a complimentary glass of sparkling and two swee-Tarts - I think one of their "playful pairings" they tout. It was an interesting texture experiment, for sure, although I don't know how often I'll pair my sparkling with candy in the future. :) Wine list - it's a wine bar, and overall, a pretty good list. I would love to see at least one more sparkling that isn't a prosecco, but that's a personal preference. Good overall selection of both reds and whites, otherwise, including some grape varietals I've never heard of, and the ability to order a 3.5 or 6 oz glass - now, that's how a wine bar should do it. Kyle was also great at recommendations and allowing us to try things before committing - another good hallmark of a wine bar. On to the food. It was the end of (extended) Restaurant Week, so I ended up getting the restaurant week menu and my husband ordered two additional dishes for himself (we split my dessert) - which ended up being the perfect amount of food. I enjoyed my burrata, and he really enjoyed his flambe tart. But we both agree that the star of the show was my bronzino. So succulent, and so well-balanced with the white wine sauce, herbs, and tomatoes and olives (the latter of which I gave to my husband). He had the hanger steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium and really enjoyed. We both split the butterscotch pudding for dessert. Overall, a great experience. Now, this is a small restaurant, and many tables don't have a whole lot of space in between them. By the time we left around 7:30pm, it was packed, so definitely ensure you have a reservation or plan ahead and get there early to snag a seat at the bar (first come, first serve, and many patrons were turned away since the bar was pretty much full the entire night). We will definitely return to explore more of the wine list and other items on the menu.

The service, atmosphere and food is delicious! My friend and I have eaten here 3x within a two month time period. This little Cleveland Park jewel is connected to Sababa and offers bar seating or table seating throughout. In the back corner is the open hearth where you can see some of the dishes being cooked. We first attended during Restaurant Week and took advantage of their prefix menu and the suggest wine pairings. The servers and bartenders know their wine and are generous with letting you taste the wine. They do offer cocktails and they have specials on rotation. The dessert menu only has 3 selections and the best currently is a trio of ice cream scoops with flavors inspired by Elvis and topped with candied bacon. It's all so good that this has become a nice haven for us in Cleveland Park.

History of Present Indulgence 32 yo M presents with spouse…read moreand friend for pre-comedy show dinner at Italian establishment on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. No reservation and sat comfortably at the bar. Physical Examination Food - This place was absolutely delicious. We started with Arancini and Prosciutto e Polenta. The arancini was fried perfectly - crispy outside, warm risotto inside, and sitting in this savory-sweet tomato sauce that I could've honestly just eaten with a spoon (and basically did using the focaccia they give with your meal - which itself was delicious too). The arancini also has ground beef in the center, which adds to the flavor and depth of what is usually just fried risotto. The polenta fries with paprika aioli were fantastic too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the fries because there were only 3 to go along with the large plate of sliced prosciutto. The prosciutto itself was fine. Just standard quality prosciutto. For mains, we went family-style and shared three entrees: the pork ossobuco from the secondi menu, the tagliarini with shredded duck, and the cavatelli with rabbit and fava beans. The ossobuco was cooked well, though I wish the braise flavor went deeper into the pork. The truffle mushroom risotto underneath was incredible. Rich, creamy, and the fresh lemon and parsley gremolata on top cut through all that richness perfectly. The tagliarini was delicious, but my wife and I agreed that the duck flavor was a little lost in the rich marinara sauce. It didn't feel like I was eating duck, to be honest. You could've told me that was shredded short rib, and I might've believed you. The cavatelli was probably my favorite dish - those shell-shaped pasta pieces with rabbit and fava beans in a white wine sauce that had this unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere else. There's a mild gaminess from the rabbit, but it was very subtle. Each time I had a fava bean, it was a fun change of pace in texture and taste as I was spooning this plate down my throat. It was so so good. Portions were generous too, which made the prices feel totally worth it. We left full and satisfied. My wife had a lambrusco spritz that was deliciously refreshing, and we shared some good wine throughout the meal. No complaints. Service - The bartender was really kind and attentive. Even though we weren't at a table, we didn't feel like we were getting second-tier service or anything. They checked on us regularly, made good recommendations, and kept everything moving smoothly. I also love a service that offers more table bread without needing to be asked. And their table bread was this fragrant focaccia, so I could've eaten all of whatever they brought. Ambiance - haven't been to a ton of Italian restaurants in DC, but I loved the vibe here. Intimate, cozy, dim lighting. The wine selection was great too - enough variety to be interesting without being one of those overwhelming 50-page wine lists. I think this would be a perfect date night spot. Assessment A high-quality Italian restaurant with creative takes on traditional dishes, generous portions, and an intimate atmosphere. A strong contender for the Adams Morgan dining scene, where restaurants are lined up right next to each other, and making a choice can be a bit difficult. Plan - Add to recommended restaurant list for DC visitors - Consider for future date nights or a solo wine and appetizer moment - Return to try more pasta dishes or enjoy a happy hour

We told one of the servers and he said noted, then never came back and it was never addressed. The ossobucco with the risotto rice was extremely undercooked, where we could see the white middles of each grain of rice. The ossobucco itself was delicious though! I reached out on their website to share that we were a bit disappointed as we were there with friends who claim this is one of their favorite Italian restaurants in the DMV, and having multiple bones in a dish is not acceptable. Not coming back and saying something is also unacceptable. No one reaching back out after I emailed them, is equally very unacceptable.

We celebrated our 15th anniversary here and left completely floored, by the food, yes, but even…read moremore by how genuinely cared for we felt the entire night. Our server Yannik was exceptional. Warm, attentive, knowledgeable, the kind of server who makes a special occasion actually feel special. The moment you walk in, the space wraps around you. Warm wood, soft lighting, an atmosphere that feels intimate without being cramped, the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay a while. The team went above and beyond when they learned I don't drink: they gifted us a non-alcoholic wine, a complimentary appetizer, and dessert. That kind of hospitality isn't scripted... it's felt. Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried. This is a restaurant that treats every table like it matters. We will absolutely be back.
