Had some kung pao chicken for lunch. It was so good! Glad we got a Chinese take out this side of Hero Way.

Hidden gem, food was delicious. We tried cheese puffs, sweet & sour chicken, Mongolian beef and noodles.

Visited this local grocery store around the corner from my hotel, and noticed that there was a…read moreMalaysian food pop-up there called Wee's Cozy Kitchen. It piqued my attention enough that I decided to come by several hours later to get my dinner there. Bit of a unique setup as it's literally just a desk at the front with a menu you can order off. You put your order in on Square and wait. And then someone comes to bring your food out all nicely wrapped up! This is probably because the person who would take your order is actually also making the food in the bank/ Ordered the Beef Rendang, since I wanted to try something that was uniquely Malaysian. The beef was very tender and paired well with the sauce. It also had an unexpected spicy kick to it, but it wasn't overwhelming. Did not expect to find Malaysian food in a downtown Austin grocery store, but here we are!

I'm no stranger to restaurants inside of other businesses, but this one took some getting used to…read more While there are a few tables inside of Royal Blue, Wee's is definitely better equipped for takeout. There's a separate register toward the front of the store for you to place your order. However, there's a very good chance the proprietor will be in the back making food, so it's really a spot for you to browse the menu and order online. Once you get past the set-up, however, Wee's is very, very good. The menu offers Malaysian curries, noodles, satays, snacks, and drinks. I opted for a beef rendang and a Thai green tea. After about 15-20 minutes, Wee emerged to hand me my order. She gave me a warm greeting and seemed invested in me enjoying my meal. And enjoy it I did! The meat was tender, the sauce rich and creamy, and the coconut flavors paired well with the pickled vegetables. There was also a lot of it: for $18, I felt like I got my money's worth. Wee's Cozy Kitchen is easy to miss unless you're looking for it, but if you stop by, you're in for a treat.

Came to Don Don Express again, but this time for takeout!…read more I already knew I wanted the Chicken Katsu again after a really great experience last time. I also checked out the appetizer menu and decided to try the curry pancake. The boxed Chicken Katsu came out piping hot. It was still a generous portion of chicken layered over rice. When I saw the side compartment, I paused for a second and thought, is that soup? Then I realized it was actually the onion, egg, and soy mixture that goes with donburi. I did not know it would be packed separately, so I was not especially careful with the container and a little of it spilled into the bag. That said, I really applaud this place for separating it. It kept the chicken katsu crispy and the rice dry and fluffy until I was ready to eat. The curry pancake was different from what I expected, but in a pleasant way. It was not filled with curry or mixed into the dough. Instead, it was a hot, crispy, flaky Asian-style pancake with a texture similar to a scallion pancake, served with a curry dipping sauce. The curry had a bold and flavorful profile. It was not thick but nor sweet as the usual Japanese curry block sauces, as I was expeecting since it is a japnese themeed place. Te curry to me tatded more indian curry stlye, a bit spicy and a strong but it had a strong savory depth. Because of the texure closer to a desn flavor croth it did not cling to the pancake as much, not like how naan would scoopt up the curry, but it still paired very well, and works nice with the katsu, too! Very happy with this meal and definitely excited to return again.

I was really looking forward to trying Don Don, but unfortunately our order was a disappointment…read more We got two beef teriyaki bento boxes. The California roll was good, and honestly the best part of the meal was the miso soup. The beef, though, was tough, dry, and completely lacking in flavor--neither of us could eat it. Such a bummer.

Small's knows how to make a damn good pizza. Thin, perfectly crispy, and slightly chewy. The pad kra pow pizza was just alright to me. It's a bit dry and too salty for my taste, maybe the rice soaks up the saltiness better than pizza dough. It's a more one dimensional flavor with a hint of fish sauce. The osso bucco was what I was looking more forward to. It didn't disappoint. The beef was fork tender and barely required any chewing at all. The curry was coconuty and lemongrass forward which is my favorite! The roti that came with this dish is the best roti I've ever had in my entire life. In a world full of various flat breads, I've usually thought roti doesn't compare to some of the other options, but I kid you not, my jaw dropped ripping into this roti. So flaky and buttery!! Must get for every table The che bap honey butter toast is a novel fusion dish compared to what's typically done. I was thoroughly impressed. They captured the essence of Che bap perfectly. The toasted coconut added a perfect crunch to each bite. It took a while to come out as a heads up. It was about $90 with tip and tax for 2, so a tad expensive, but overall done well.

I really liked it but I do wish the rice cake was crispier--we did pre order and I'm not sure if that impacted the texture. My husband got the broken rice dish which I thought was good but he prefers a traditional, non-rib style. This place is a big hidden in Springdale General and occupies a small corner. I hadn't been in this area for a hot minute but it's developed into quite a bustling food court with other small businesses to check out around the area. It's located in a strip mall with a pretty unassuming entrance. Service was great, we were warmly greeted, and they have a moderate amount of seating, though it wasn't crowded during our visit. Mostly Vietnamese food on the menu, but they also offer a lot of variety: Tom Kha Pho, iced coffee, Korean shaved ice (bingsoo), banh mi, and rice dishes. Feels like they're mostly Vietnamese focused with some fun extras mixed in. It's a pretty chill setup, you pay first at the counter, then they bring your food along with a water bottle. Pho ($17, 7/10) - Pretty standard, good flavor, large portions in a large bowl - Standard sides with mint, lime, jalapenos, and bean sprouts - No option to choose your meat, it just comes with brisket and meatballs (though I didn't ask, so maybe substitutions are possible) - Generous with the meat portions though, which was a nice bonus - Broth was rich and flavorful, plenty of noodles, left me satisfied. Definitely can compete with specialized pho spots in town Someone else at the table got the Tom Kha Pho, and it looked really good and creamy, definitely want to try that next time. Overall, this spot feels very family oriented and homestyle. Really enjoyed this meal.
