Not a lot of sit down customers at 12:30 in the afternoon but there were quite a few takeout and pickup orders going out the door while I waited. The hostess told me it would be a 10 minute wait for my order and offered me water and a seat at the bar. I chose to sit in the foyer and watch the people while I drafted this review. Wood fired pizza is a valued preference for pizza in my book so, I am excited what my 10" pizza will look like. It's 84 degrees outside with lots of shade so I will sit outside. The pizza came with nicely balanced with green peppers, onion slivers, sausage and pepperoni. The cheese was very good and the spices were a nice surprise. I would get this one again. It appears to be their signature pizza.

When I had ordered previously, I always found that my pie was not ready and I had to wait. Each time, I waited a bit longer, and each time, still not ready. So, this time, ordered my pizza before 9:00 PM and did not depart immediately -- but instead waited a full 20 minutes before even walking there slow. When I arrived, the pizza was..... still not ready. It occurs to me that this shop is situated in a time zone that is somehow TEN MINUTES BEHIND the time your order is due. The guy says "five minutes." In any case, I stand, I wait.... and I.... wait some more. It wasn't five minutes. Lots of workers standing. Nearing the 9:30 mark, someone finally says "have you been helped?" And whadda ya know? Found out the reason I was still waiting - BECAUSE MY PIE WAS SITTING THERE THE WHOLE DAMN TIME! Getting cold. She says "we're just getting that cut up." But they weren't - it was already cut. They took one of their old pies off the rack and slid it right into a box. It wasn't in the oven. I could feel it was cold, but yes, I took it and went home. I can't say you couldn't eat it but.... it wasn't good. We did eat some of it, but only after baking it in my own oven. Good thing I ordered in advance, eh? If you are going to do a take out here, my advice would be to skip ordering altogether, and just go there and get the slices yourself. They won't be too fresh, but at least it will be fast. Better yet, go across the street to Quincy Hall, (or over to Wise Guys) where they will bake the pizza to order and have it hot and ready when you arrive. Keep in mind here they charge $32 for a pizza, full price only. NOT worth it, won't be back, do not recommend.

Why do you even have slices of pizza on display if you don't sell single slices? If you want to be like Rome, just sell it by weight then! Arbitrary rules like this ruin what used to be a reliable spot. So I walked out. I guess this will be the last time I walk over for a quick bite to eat. The Italian Store has so many Italian subs to choose from, but I went with the Milano, their most popular sub. The combination of the sweet and spicy peppers really made this sandwich stand out. There was just the right balance of flavors, and I can definitely see why it's one of their most popular choices. A heads-up when ordering: They typically have several sandwiches pre-made and ready to go, but if you want something made fresh to order, you'll need to order by phone or online. At least at the Lyon Village location, you can't order a made-to-order sandwich directly at the counter. So if you have your heart set on a freshly made sub, plan ahead! Of course, no Italian sub is complete without chips. They carry Route 11, a Virginia-based chip company, and they had several varieties available: lightly salted, dill pickle, Chesapeake Crab, Mama Zuma's Revenge, and salt & pepper. I went with the lightly salted, which was the perfect pairing with my Milano. Unfortunately, the Lyon Village location doesn't have fresh gelato, so I had to settle for the pre-packaged variety. I went with the caramel gelato, and it was delicious! It wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated, although it was a little on the expensive side. The store was pretty busy when I stopped in, with several people inside and a few others enjoying the outdoor tables. They also sell pizza by the slice, or you can order a whole pizza to take home. I saw several people leaving with whole pizzas, so clearly I need to add that to my next visit. Between the Milano, Route 11 chips, and caramel gelato, this was a fantastic first experience. Definitely coming back -- next time, I'm trying the pizza!

Enough about parking lol Went here at around 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Ordered a cheese, Hawaiian, and BBQ Chicken which was literally ready in 15 min. First impression was that the pizza looked kinda "pale." All of them had a significant flop and no crunch. Sauce is light to the point I had to look deeper to see if they actually used tomato sauce. Some slices were also not cut all the way through...which kinda frustrated me, especially when hangry and not wanting to deal with extra mess or breaking out cutting utensils. Cheese was cheese...Hawaiian doesn't look anything like the pictures....more like a puny version of the pic they had. BBQ Chicken tasted good and brought back memories of the same offering at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) All-in-all, I think leaving the pizza in the oven a tad longer to develop that nice undercarriage would've made a load of difference. I had thought that they only provided partially baked pies. That's possibly something from years ago. It turns out they also serve individual slices and even have fully cooked pies for pickup or delivery. We ordered, the food arrived, and we were generally delighted. We ordered three pizzas, one regular crust, one "Grandma Style," and one gluten free. For me, the regular crust provided the best balance between bread and the good stuff, in that case pepperoni. The Grandma Style, with their W&L toppings (each pre-configured pizza is named after a local school) was good but I thought there was a bit too much crust. That said, the crust was very tasty. The gluten free crust was very cracker-like, as is the case with just about all gluten free pizza crusts.
