I wish I could give three and a half stars instead. I ordered 3 empandas and the only one I really loved was the ground beef. The other two were a bit above average, nothing more, nothing less. They REALLY REALLY need to offer some salsa or something. The poster below me says that Carlos is going to add a sauce. This is what the empandas really need to make me come back. Also, $2.09 sounds like a great price, but if you want dinner, you are talking $6.75 for three empandas after tax is set in. Almost every other place on the block (Luigi's, Angela's, Oodles, even France's and Lincoln Park Market) can match or beat that price. Angela's can smash that price to bits and their burritos are more filling. I have to give them props for the freshness though. I'll be back for that and hope that I see new additions. I could see this place turning into a five. It's a work in progress. read more

Chicagos best kept secrect. Wow these are good.

Delicious. Cheap. Unhealthy. The perfect hangover food. Try it after a long night of drinking and you won't be disappointed. You're welcome.

Amazing empanadas and great customer service!!! The beef with rice and chicken with rice empanadas were made with love, they tasted so good! Ordered them for a work event and they maybe lasted 5 minutes! Lito's is our official go to place! read more

Based on these reviews, I apparently need to go back and get the Choco Banana! The spinach and cheese was my favorite one -- I also got the chicken one and the beef and rice one. I am not a fan of onions, however, and you can't order those without them. Would love it if they offered an option without those stinky things. The place is small and screams take out -- they have seating, but its too bright and sterile in there to want to sit down. Would think that an empanada place would be fun, colorful and inviting. Overall, it was pretty good and its close to home, so I'll be going back. read more

Yummy! I don't know if I'd ever had an empanada until last night, but after reading your reviews I had to walk the block and a half and try one. I stuck with the beef and it was delightful. I got their home made hot sauce, which is a MUST. If only they had some sort of cheese dip! I'm going to have to come back and try other types. read more

Went here this past weekend for a quick bite. I ordered the chicken with rice, beef, and banana/chocolate empanadas. They were really delicious! I thought that I was not going to like the beef because it had olives in it, but it was very good. They came to me hot and not greasy at all. I was also surprised by the banana and chocolate empanada....not your typical empanada, but it was great! When I come back, I"ll definitely try the rest. read more

Uh. Mazing. Empanadas! I've seen this place numerous times and just hadn't made it in, but fixed that last night. I got the Beef #1 and BBQ chicken. With the dipping sauces/salsas they were both quite delicious! Such inexpensive prices too! I'll definitely be coming back here on a regular basis in the future. read more

I thought this place was very good. For a quick bite to eat while out in the neighborhood, I can't think of anything better. I had the special of the day (bbq chicken), the Hawaiian, the beef and rice, and a couple bites of the spinach and cheese. I enjoyed the traditional beef and rice the most. This isn't a place I would come if I was starving, but like I said it's good on the go. I will be coming back plenty of times for an excellent, fast, cheap snack or meal. I have to go back to try out the banana choco one everyone is talking about. I didn't see it on the menu when I went in. read more

Still delish! in fact, it's gotten better. A few pointers: they fry the empanadas fresh when you order, so you'll have to wait at least five minutes before you get your tasty treat. Not a problem for me, but if you're in a rush, be warned, it takes even longer if there's a line. And the "hot sauce" is not hot, like someone mentioned, it's almost a chimichurri. BONUS: i got to watch them actually make empanadas today; they use a nifty rolling/forming machine thing to make them one by one. Looks tedious, tastes DELICIOUS! read more

I love a good empanada and lucky these guys have several. Went with the champiñon chicken empanada and chori-cheese (chorizo and cheese) empanada and both were bursting with flavors and ooey gooey cheese. The crust is heavenly flakey and the green chimi churri sauce on the side adds the perfect kick. You may have to ask for extra, that good. Highly recommend for anyone in the mood for empanadas or trying something new read more

These guys are good. The delivery was within 30 minutes and quality of food was good. I had cinnamon flavor, Vegetarian, Potato Cheese and Chicken. Chicken I will rate 50-50 but others were really good and fresh. read more

this place is genius. who doesn't love thick HUGE warm fried dough stuffed with meat and cheese? the oil doesn't overwhelm these empanadas because the flavors are so POW!* in your mouth! loved it! read more

Stopped by for lunch yesterday with a friend from work; she is trying to hit every spot on this part of Clark and even though it's a treasure trove of good eats, Lito's might be the best for the money. I tried three empanadas--the al pastor, beef and rice and chori-cheese--and all were incredible. The actual empanada shells were incredible, perfectly-cooked dough, chewy and not crunchy. Sauces served on the side were also tasty; I thought the chimichurri was even better than the stuff served at 5411, which is my normal go-to for this category. The fillings here were out of this world...the chorizo and cheese empanada was a blowout, the al pastor special was very tasty as well. I thought that the beef and rice note worked better than expected and all of the empanadas kept everything real moist-like. Very excited to come back here; three of these plus a can of soda cost me $11.50-ish (that was with tax), so for $12 I left full and happy! read more

there was a time when i was going to this place like 2-3 times a week. then my jeans ceased to fit so i had to cut back. Empanadas are great, esp the chocobanana! the owners are super friendly and I can't think of a better way to spend $2 read more

I can't walk by without getting an empanada. They go great with a Korean taco from next door. Street food vendors cluster like car dealerships. This place is ruining my life. read more

Came here for dessert after a meal across the street. The nutella/banana and apple/cinnamon empanadas were delicious! The crust is perfectly flaky (although deep-fried, which I'm not a fan of), and the fillings are warm and melt from the heat. Pricing isn't too bad either ($2.49 per empanada). Service was a little spotty, and the workers seemed uninterested and unwelcoming. Will definitely return to try their savory ones, however! read more

Unlike another empanada place nearby, these are fried and thus more delicious. The chori-cheeze is excellent, I would have ordered a half-dozen. The place itself is 2x2 with a small counter to eat, but it's a good place to swing into for a quick empanada (or three). read more

The chorizo empanada is a filling and warm quick bite, and the nutella banana empanda finishes you off for dessert. They taste great but usually seem a tad over cooked read more

After going to Tango Sur many years ago, I have been on an eternal quest to find empanadas. I have found great ones at a couple of places in Miami, but none to match Tango Sur. At Lito's I ordered BBQ Chicken, Spinach and Apple. I liked all three, but none had the wow factor or sang to me. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood, but wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Update for a shot out to the chorizo and cheese empanadas. Yummy in my tummy! This place rocks!

Having been to several empanadas places, particularly in South Florida, Lito's is serviceable due to the fact that there are not many empanada places in Chicago. They are priced fairly, but are quite small. If you have an appetite, I recommend elsewhere. If you are looking for a snack, go here definitely. There just simply isn't a meal made here. On the other hand, lots of different flavors and choices. read more

It's safe to say that I am addicted to this place! Their empanadas are to die for (especially Chicken #4). I just love how fresh and flavorful they are! read more

Simple good food for a great price. The filling in the empanadas are delicious and they don't skimp on it because its only $2. I would love to see more variation on the menu, but i've tried 5 of theirs already. We got beef, beef and rice, chicken, bbq chicken, and the choco banana. I liked them all! Who said they weren't greasy? They are, but they aren't so greasy you feel like going on a run afterwards. The store is small and has limited seating (wall seating for 5 I think), so definitely expect to do takeout. Thanks for another great recommendation Yelp. read more

If you're a girl, 2 empanadas are PLENTY! Next time I go I will get just the ham, pinapple and cheese and the chocolate banana. Believe the hype- the chocolate banana ones are YUMM-O! Also, who can resist cheap eats? read more

I went back to try the vegetarian and didn't love that as much as the spinach. I'm still gung-ho over that spinach. In fact, I'm going to go get it after work tonight. Yum! read more

Really cheap, satisfying empanadas. I got the spinach and vegetarian empanadas with the homemade hot sauce. It's a place worth going to if you're in the area, but it's nothing spectacular that warrants making a trip of it. Although, with Molly's cupcakes right next door, why not? :) read more

Yummy! I was really impressed. For something fried I usually do not use the word light, but at Lito's this is the case. My husband and I had the BBQ Chicken, Beef, and Banana and Nutella empanadas. The homeade hot sauce was really, really good and was delicious with the beef empanada. I was a little skeptical because I don't like raisins or olives, two of the ingredients in the beef empanada but everything worked really well together. The BBQ chicken and banana/nutella empanadas were really delicious too. Great and cheap, I will definitely be back. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wasn't really full when I left (you can only eat so much fried food, well at least I can :) ). read more

I live near this place but have never been. Decided to try the chicken with mushroom $2.29 (i think) and BBQ chicken $2.49. Both were great and tasted delicious. The staff were friendly and family owned. The young lady in the front was very friendly. I just wish the hot sauce came free with purchase of empanada..Or with purchase of 2... A small sauce cup was 25cents but I tend to like my food with a lot of sauce... read more

Great spot for a capital QUICK eat-in or take out, as the space is capital SMALL. I had the hawaiian empanada. I really can't say how "authentic" these would be but it hands down hit the spot. All the ingredients caressed the palate in perfect harmony, punctuated by an unexpectedly amazing crust! I dont know what they put in there... it's definitely not wack, but it may rhyme with it. And for less than 3 dollars it was actually bigger than I thought it would be! Excellent! read more

My Do-division-street-fest-induced-hangover left me with an odd craving for Empanadas. I drove all the way from Wicker Park for some Lito's, and was NOT disappointed. Empanadas were incredible, Coke was ice cold, and the staff was super friendly. Will definitely come back. read more

Argentinan-style empanadas (fried vs baked), really good quality, made from scratch. If you want a quick lunch/dinner and are in Lincoln Park, this place is perfect! read more

I went there the other day for some eatins and I was underwhelmed. The place was very stark and seemed eerily sterile. Nothing warm about it. Clean, yes, boring, yes, bad energy, yes. And the empanadas were just okay. They could have been so much better. The beef one was probably the best. The veggie was sourish. The chicken was just weird. The chocolate banana one was good though, enjoyable city! It seemed like they were trying to be healthy with the fillings. They needed to be more fatty and have more flavor. I have been to Buenos Aires, and they have a lot of these type of places. And of course they were way better than Lito's. But that does not mean that this place could be as good. And they need one that is cheesy. Not spinach and cheese, but cheesy. There was one in BA that was corn and cheese, that was yummers. I don't think that I would be lining up to go back unless they start injecting them with fat. But the LP trixies would be horrified!!! read more

So I just went here for lunch for empanadas (spinich/cheese, vegetraian and a chocobanana) and I was impressed! They were excellent! Girls, scope this place out if you're raggin' 'cause the foods just about perfect. I gave it 4 stars 'cause I wish they were baked instead of fried. Alas, they are not greasy, but baked might rock. Very nice people run the place, too. read more

In a word: very good. Ok, that was two words but I'm sure you'll let it slide once visit and try the different empanadas. Beef and Spinach and cheese are my two favorites. I usually (and by usually I mean always) follow them up with a chocobana. Mmmm. The price is also nice. Two bucks a pop is a small sum for a few minutes in heaven. Speaking of small, this place is basically a walk-in empanada stand, with maybe 4 stools. However, when it is nice out they also have outdoor seating. read more

The lady at the counter was very courteous and had a good attitude. I love feeling welcomed into a business, not feeling like I am inconveniencing them. Unfortunately, the empanadas didn't shine through. I had the apple empanada and I have to say the the one at Taco Bell was better. read more

Yummy, freshly made empanadas! I was a bit disappointed with the vegetarian empanada, though. It really should be called a potato empanada because that was the dominant veggie by far. read more

Great place for an empanada lover. Tried pretty much all the empanadas and all were delish! LOVE THE CHOCO BANANA.. but then again.. who can hate on some warm gooey nutella?! 2-3 empanadas is good enough to make a stummy happy! read more

This is a place you can really appreciate, a limited menu but they do it right. Had 2 empanadas here, first off the Chori-Cheese is probably the best empanada i've ever had. There is something I can't explain about how appetizing and satisfying it is when you mix some greezy sausage, cheese, and potato, slap it into a pocket of dough, then fry it. Utter genius! Could've eaten at least 6 of these. Also had the BBQ chicken. Obviously and american twist in a latin favorite. But the chicken is shredded to perfection and lets face it, you can't go wrong mixing meat and potatoes. I will be back here when I wanna gorge in the fried, artery clogging awesomeness. And based on fellow yelper reviews, a Nutella empanada will be in order as well. read more
