Stopped by here after landing in ATX, from the inside and out the place had major bayou vibes, including a TV screen spitting out Cajun lifestyle memes. Grabbed an Oyster Po Boy for take-out, fried oysters hit the spot inside a soft roll adorned with lettuce, tomato, and pickles- which really gave the sandwich an certain kick. The crinkle-cut fries on the side were fantastic, I'm not sure if they double fried them or just had them well-done but they certain stood out. Stopped in for lunch with a coworker today. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. There was plenty of patio seating outside, but we opted to sit inside since it was a little bit chilly. Scanned the QR code for the menu. I ultimately decided on the Shrimp Po Boy and a bowl of gumbo (chicken and sausage, I believe). Both were excellent. They did not skimp on the shrimp. They are a great combo of crispy, chewy, and packed with flavor. Also, don't miss the rum cake! I was visiting a friend who lives nearby and decided to try the newest addition to the neighborhood. I'm typically wary of trying a brand-new spot since Austin is all about hype, but we were pleasantly surprised by this visit. We arrived around 6:30 pm on a Sunday, and it was pretty packed, so we parked on the street and walked up. Otherwise, the wait for the two of us wasn't any longer than 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and ready to take our drink order once we settled in. The menus are all via QR code, so keep that in mind, as my friend's phone had a little trouble pulling it up. I had the French 75 and the frozen Saturn (10oz comes in a glass and then 16oz in the cute plastic cup). As for food, we loved the variety here compared to other spots in Austin. I can't say I've seen a Cajun meat pie elsewhere, so I had to try it. It was similar to a Jamaican patty in shape and crust type, but the flavors differed. My friend got the oyster po'boy as she was just fresh off a New Orleans trip and said you don't see that one on Austin menus either. They're still working out some kinks, as we got some cheese fries by mistake, but overall, the food is good, and the drinks are even better. Even though they've only been open a month and some change, it's worth your time. It'll hit the spot if you love NOLA as much as I do. read more

I'm a huge fan of De Nada, so I wanted to check out Lil' Easy to see if it was as good. Lil' Easy is a cajun food spot, and you can definitely feel the mardi gras vibes as soon as you arrive. Three of us got there at 5:30 on a Saturday, and we were told there would be a 30 minute wait. Similar to De Nada, they have an area called the Daiquiri Alley where you can order drinks and hang out while you wait for a table. It's also shaded so you're not waiting in the sun! There are some really good drink specials during happy hour (every day 4-6pm). All frozens are half priced, there are cheap beers, and they even have a shot called the Voodoo Daiquiri shot reminiscent of the purple drank for $3. If you like sweet drinks, I recommend the French Tickler which is like a frozen Saturn. The bartenders were super friendly and made sure we got a couple drinks before happy hour ended. We were seated after about 20 minutes. About half of the tables on the patio are shaded, and some of them have misters pointed at them. There's also a bar area on the inside. For food, we decided to just get some appetizers since we weren't super hungry. We ordered: - Hushpuppies (3.5/5): These hushpuppies were a bit dry, but not bad! They are more savory than sweet since they have tiny chopped up jalapenos inside. There are 5 in an order and they are served with butter packets. - Cracklins by T-Roy (3/5): I was expecting super crispy pork skins, but this was more like fried pork belly. I generally love pork belly, but for some reason this was super greasy to the point that it was leaving filmy residue on our teeth. The seasoning on the outside was tasty though! We also ordered boudin balls, but I honestly don't remember what they tasted like. Overall, we agreed that we liked the food but probably wouldn't come back for it. We all loved the drinks though and would definitely return for happy hour again! I also noticed a lot of people ordering crawfish which looked really good. I dropped into Lil Easy for happy hour and tried out a few things. Being creole, I can have a bit of "side eye" when it comes to Louisiana style restaurants/ bars. I enjoyed the cracklins and frozen hurricane. The gumbo had a bit too much hot sauce in it for my taste but, not a bad underlying flavor overall. I love Cajun food. It's easily my favorite cuisine. Lil Easy was close but really missed the bar with a few items that unfortunately ruined our evening. First the Bloody Mary. It was so spicy that not a single person in our table of 4 could drink it. Wasted purchase of a drink. Next the crawfish. Again, so spicy that we were chugging water and our beers to handle the spice. I love spicy crawfish, but this was next level. Usually crawfish isn't spicy enough for me, but you shouldn't have crawfish so spicy that it ruins evenings. We ordered two lbs of crawfish. Most places will weigh out crawfish and then add potatoes and corn. They weigh it all out together. So if you order two lbs of crawfish, you aren't getting two lbs of crawfish. You're getting two lbs of crawfish, potatoes and corn. Potatoes and corn are obviously heavy so the tray of crawfish is underwhelming when it's $12 per lb of crawfish. This place had a great vibe and our waitress was solid, but you can't make your items so spicy that it ruins date nights for both couples at the table. read more

The crawfish was amazing, the ambiance was chill big patio wasn't hot at all the have umbrellas to keep everyone comfortable . The 1st day we had po boy's & crawfish , day 2 we had red beans & crawfish, day 3 we only had crawfish and they gave us hush puppies on the house which were nice and light not heavy at all. I love this place it's got such a cool nostalgic NOLA vibe! My favorite thing here are the DRINKS - order the Vietnamese coffee it's exactly what you'd expect (better than Loro's imo) and cowboy coffee is worth the jump if you want to add some flair. They've got small portions, perfect if you're just wanting a quick taste of Cajun food, and ik it says daily specials but I learned you can infact order any of the entrees all days of the week. Inside there were about 3 tablespoons of gumbo and about 1/2 cup of white rice plopped on top. It was shocking how stingy they were! I walked into Lil Easy and was seated after about 2-3 minutes. I ordered a beer while waiting for my order to be taken, which took around 5 minutes. When my food finally came out, it arrived extremely fast -- maybe 2 minutes after I ordered -- which immediately made me question its freshness. At the first bite, I realized my suspicion was correct. The rice in my crawfish étouffée, gumbo, and red beans and rice was not fresh and tasted like it had been sitting for a while. The sausage was tough, the crawfish mushy, and the hushpuppies were far from fresh -- dry, stale, and tough, which is the complete opposite of how a proper hushpuppy should be. Honestly, the food I was served felt disrespectful to our culture and the traditions that dishes like these represent. To make matters worse, while I was waiting for my server to check in or bring the check, I noticed him eating at the very front of the restaurant -- in plain view of customers. That's just poor customer service and shows a lack of professionalism. The rest of the staff didn't seem to care either; they were laughing, lounging around, and generally acting like they weren't even at work. I expect people in the service industry to take pride in what they do and show at least some care for their customers. Unfortunately, no one I interacted with during my visit seemed to care at all -- not about the food, not about the service, and certainly not about making guests feel welcome. Especially disappointing considering I told them it was my first time there. Overall, my experience at Lil Easy was very disrespectful to both the food and the culture it represents -- and completely ignorant of what good customer service should be read more

So so excited to have this new spot in Austin! Everything here has been a win all 4 times I've been so far. I've struggled to find a good Po' Boy in Austin that doesn't skimp on shrimp & Lil' East is the winner!! All the food here has been consistently good, the meat pie is an easy favorite with the ranch-like sauce as well. Gumbo here is unique, and more of a smoky style gumbo than what I've had before but I enjoy it for what it is. (Yes, it does have okra). Only low point was the hush puppies which were on the drier side but great when dipped in the sauce from the meat pie, or even used to soak up the gumbo. Our first time and most certainly not our last! We are southwest Louisiana born and raised and the food, drinks, and service reminded us of home. We decided to sit at the bar where we were attended to immediately and even greeted by one of the owners. We tried the boudin, deviled eggs, meat pie, gumbo, potato salad, shrimp po boy, sazerac, Bloody Mary, and daiquiri. The boudin and sausage are from Poche's and are perfection. The Bloody Mary was one of the best I've had and the daiquiri requires you to call an Uber. The inside and patio felt like we were transported back home. I like my food a little more spicier but everything was flavored so well. I only took a picture of the Bloody Mary because I was so excited to eat :,) We will definitely be back.
