We went for my birthday. Every year I pick an upscale restaurant to eat at and this year I decided this was the place since we had never eaten here. What a bad choice. A couple of things - I walk with a cane due to a bad back, hips and mobility issues. We arrived at opening at 5. They went to seat us at a picnic bench. Non-workable since I need something with back support and I can't crawl into a fixed bench. So we got them to find us a table with chairs for six. They were accommodating. The place was dingy, dim and look like it had not been updated in 30 years. I am all for nostalgia and rustic but honestly this was not it. The furniture was cheap and uncomfortable. For the price point I expected a hell of a lot more than what they provided. Pinnacle Peak is 100% more enjoyable than this place with a cheaper price point and the same quality food. Service was prompt enough. They brought out water and our drinks within 15 minutes which was fantastic. Ordered a coke, diet coke and a kilt lifter beer and they arrived in about 15 minutes. They took our order within about 20. Our salads arrive within the first 30 minutes. A boneless ribeye was ordered, half rack of beef ribs, 2 lb. porter house steak, 2 sirloin steaks and the salmon dinner. All the steaks were ordered medium rare. A plate of potato wedges were ordered as well. Meals also came with the dinner salad, bread and beans. It took them almost 40 minutes to get our entrees to us. The ribeye was about a quarter inch thick and cooked to medium. Both sirloins were about an inch thick and medium rare as ordered and the porterhouse was about two inches and rare. Salmon was medium. Potato wedges looked like they took a potato and cut it into quarters, seasoned it and cooked it. Beans were so over salted they were inedible. Total cost for all six of us before tip - $278.67 What a waste of money. Should have gone to Flemings or Sullivan's instead. At least I know there I would have had quality, atmosphere and comfort. My wife and dog were in Tucson for several days. We always travel with our miniature poodle (Molly). So we're always looking for "petty friendly" meal options. We saw this restaurant in a YouTube review by ncmemorymakers and thought we'd take the 30 or so minutes to drive over. We arrived just after opening (5pm) on Sunday afternoon. We were met and seated immediately. Our server was fast and courteous. We ordered a filet and ribeye. Both steaks were cooked precisely as ordered. The food was at our table about the time we finished our salads. It worked perfectly for us. I can honestly say our meal and service was probably in the top 10 we've experienced in over 40 years of marriage! I enjoyed the "rustic" appearance and seeing the steaks prepared on an open, outside grill. If you want "pricey", fancy things, it probably won't work for you. If you enjoy great food and a "layed back" atmosphere you'll enjoy it. I'd sure go back again! read more

Can't believe I never ate here! I lived in Tucson while I attended school and two siblings still live in the Old Pueblo. We spent the day at the rodeo and my brother suggested Lil Abner's. License plates from across the country strung up on the ceiling. A casual and regulars heavy type of vibe. A gravel parking lot. An outdoor grill. Indoor and outdoor seating with live music offered in both settings. Delicious food, that's priced on the slightly higher end, in my opinion, but worth it. The first time I came here, we had a terrible experience. After ordering our food, the server came back and said they were all out of sirloins, which is what everyone in our party ordered. We left without eating anything and didn't return for about 5 or 6 years. We recently moved really close and decided to give it another shot as it always seems crowded. We've been a few times now and they've definitely made up for our initial bad impression. I typically go with the sirloin and it's been seasoned and cooked perfectly. We've been going to lil' Abners over 50 years and love the place. However, after Covid we have noticed the food is hit or miss. The steaks are paper thin (Cowgirl) and the prices have increased considerably, however the food is still tasty. Tonight the steaks were again paper thin and this time gristly. We did mention it to our server and she apologized and said management didn't listen to the wait staff when it came to their suggestions. Will we go back? Solid steak dinner made here! This restaurant was a hidden gem from me! Friends brought us here and I'm so glad they did. There's plenty of seating outdoors if you're wanting to sit under the stars and listen to live music while watching them cook your dinner on the open pit! We sat inside and the waitress who has been there for many, many years was wonderful! She was attentive and a great storyteller. We learned the table next to us was said to be "haunted" with a friendly ghost. She shared some stories that were both interesting and cool! I would describe this restaurant as rustic and "cowboy." The steaks come with a small salad per person and a bowl of beans, garlic toast, and salsa to share. The "salsa" is stewed tomatoes and green chiles from a can, as are the beans. Have been going to this Steakhouse, since the '70's, when nothing was around but Saguaro's and Cholla. Last time I was there, was in 2020 before the Pandemic hit. Hoped and prayed they would still be around, so I got my chance on Thursday night, last week. Ordered the 2 pound Porter House, which as always, did not disappoint. Connie, my server, was very attentive and wondered why I did not want bread, salad or beans. Explained that I'm on a high fat, high protein, no carb diet, and she was intrigued. Great service, and the Ambiance is right on point, for the great western feel. This place has an extremely rich history, and is a gem of Tucson. My daughter and I enjoyed an epic dinner at Lil Abners steakhouse. The waitress and staff were friendly and fast. My tender beef bbq ribs were a very large serving at a reasonable price. The meal came with a nice salad, outstanding fresh beans with salsa. I've never had beans that way before. The salsa was mild so I dumped it all in the beans. It tasted great. I ordered a very good old fashioned bourbon drink. My daughter had a Top sirloin steak and had nothing to take home! The outdoor patio area looked like a wonderful hangout but we elected to eat inside as it was a windy evening. The inside is rustic but comfortable. Went with my wife last Sunday- thinking that the prices promise equal or higher value in return (the secret of successful business). The beans were served in a big bowl 15 minutes before the steak- with one spoon. Don't know if they were supposed to be consumed with the steak? or before? So, we shared the spoon and the beans before the steaks arrived. I had T-Bone priced 48.00! Supposed to be 1 pound according to the menu. On arrival, it was paper thin! - for sure about half of a pound- if that. I have to say "hats up to the cook"! I could never cook a piece that thin to medium rare, but he did! About the ambience that looks attractive at first glance: 10 little kids running around screaming the whole time while we were trying to enjoy a fairly high priced dinner that did not meet our expectation of price = value (at least) at all. The place is very well staffed- they just have to figure out how to spread more evenly to serve their guests more sufficiently. Three people showing up at the table within 3 minutes for the same purpose- and then 20 minutes of no service. All of that after a "family business" has been there for generations? We went Saturday night to celebrate a graduation, and they accomodated us very well. The food was good my steak was cooked just fine my husband had the salmon which was fine, salad, beans, bread were all good. However over the years they have become very pricey which is understandable with rising costs. Service was slow, but we did have a large party all odering at separate times. I was however disturbed that we arrived early and I ordered a glass of wine at the bar and it was $11, when I ordered the same wine at the table it was now $14. I did not notice till after we got home and even if the earlier wine was based on a happy hour price a $3 difference was a little much. If we go back I might ask why the big difference, but that is if we bo back. read more

The staff seemed rushed and that it was an inconvenience that we were there. They open at five and close at nine so that's four hours of work so I'm really not sure why they were so pushy. Man, I hate to do this because Abner's is somewhere we go every time we're in Tuscon. It was so bad. One market ribeye was well (ordered medium well). One was medium well, ordered medium rare. The beef ribs were scraggly and dry (normally so full and stacked). The beans were certainty right out of the can (normally you're asking for yourself "lawd what's the recipe for this?). The garlic bread was flimsy, had zero crunch. I never leave poor reviews but this dinner was $360. Staff was fine. That said, all very young. As someone who has worked at 6 restaurants you need experience when you're cooking market ranch meats, the best of the best (and that requires experience). Visiting a friend in Tucson and wanted a good steak dinner. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by a hostess who told us it was a 45min wait for a table. We didn't mind as we found seats at the bar which gave us more time together to catch up. After waiting the 45min we were seated at our table with menus, and this is where it starts to decline, so hold onto your seat. We waited over 15 min before we asked someone for waters and some bread for the table. So one of the food runners brought us beans and bread with our waters. 15min go by and we had to ask a food runner for our waitress because she had not been to our table yet and that we were ready to order our food. 10 min later our server Becky shows up to take our orders. We each ordered sirloins cooked different ways and all had salad with blue cheese dressing. I had asked for no onions on my salad. Becky finally showed up and our order was put in with the hopes that we were on our way to full belly's. Well, so we thought. 30 minutes go by no food or server has checked up on us. So my friend inquired about our food or at least the salads. Becky brought our salads out 15 min later with onion in all of them. When I saw that all salads had onion, I made Becky aware of this. So, Becky proceeds to dip her fingers in my salad and remove the onion. Our whole table was befuddled as to why she would even think this was okay, and it was at this moment we realized Becky appeared to be on some sort of drugs. She was not completely coherent and when you speak to her, it's like lights are on and nobody is home. Immediately, we were appalled and spoke to what we assumed was the manager. He apologized and it appeared we he was going to fix our situation. However, we were wrong again. People were seated behind us after we sat down who got their food before us. So once I saw this is when I went to speak to the manager myself. The guy bartender who's the "manager" thinks his smiles and apologies work, well they didn't. He is the boyfriend to the owner, and they both know how this Becky operates, yet, they allow her to still work there. Also, We've been at your restaurant for over 2 hours to include waiting for the table and the only thing we got was water, beans and bread. Basically prison food from a place where they pride themselves of their customer service and food. Our steaks were finally brought to us and they weren't cooked right and were burnt on the outside due to the rush cooking of our order. He did pay for our meal and offer us dessert, however at this point we were done with this place. Literally done. Wait staff did tell us Becky has been working there for 2 years and this is her standard of service, which is none at all. My friend had to get up multiple times to try and fix this situation. All three of us agreed we have never been subjected to this type of service before. Takeaway: do not have Becky as your server, and if you like sub par food and burnt steak, this your place. read more

The band was awesome singing country hits and people were dancing. You also see the huge grill in the back and you get all excited that these folks know how to grill until you bite into your meal. It was quite a disappointment. Service was good, however. If you just want to be outside drinking under the lights with live country music... this is the place for you. Don't come here for the BBQ. We ordered the following: Half chicken: $19- huge chicken, comes w/bbq sauce on the side and it tastes just like Worchester sauce. Comes with Texas toast, baked beans and side salad.
