Bernoulli at reception was loud, almost obnoxious and he is just not the right fit for someone in that position. He was trying to get information from a man (who I overhead has cancer). His manner of questioning this older man about the man's Doctor's address was pathetic and sad. Martha is nice, can be curt (past experiences). She always has a really sour look on her face. They don't want to be there. Guess what? The clients who come in to have labwork done don't want to be there either. A lot are going through some pretty serious health stuff, and they are terrified / scared. They should be treated with some level of dignity and compassion, and basic human respect. ALL the clients who go there should be treated with respect. If the staff are stressed because they are so busy, perhaps this giant company should be hiring more people (?) to staff the lab. I notice the labs are often closed for training. At this location, MUCH MORE training is required regarding human interaction.

Two back-to-back, appointment-arranged, recent morning visits to this lab for my lady -- I helped…read moreand accompanied her into the lab for each. - first morning - an extended time visit (about an hour), to conduct several procedures. - second morning - a short time in / out to conclude everything. She was well taken care of ... from initial checking in each day, to and through the various tests, and procedures done. And in good spirits when she came back out to the lobby, waved to me, and said "I'm done". .. update -- no, not done quite yet -- her family doctor called and advised that lab tests had revealed an infection present in one of the tests. The lab wanted to run the test again, to confirm ... and it did. A req had been sent by family doctor to pharmacy for an antibiotic to be put on hold, upon receiving the first news -- it was now activated, and I was there to pick it up. All this was done within our Thanksgiving weekend!! A big thanks extended to LifeLabs, family doctor, and pharmacy for their coordinated efforts!!!!

I had to drop off my sample this morning and the person in the middle desk was the most rudest…read moreperson ever. I waited until she was done speaking with another person and I approached and asked where I could leave the sample bag. She practically screamed at me and claimed that she was busy dealing with something else and she yelled to go and stand "back there", she waved her hand and said, "that blue line". I waited patiently and then another aide came and sat at the first desk. She saw that I had a sample bag and asked if she could help me. I asked if I could drop off my sample and she said that she could take it. I felt like saying that her co-worker was very rude, but I refrained. I would suggest that this location should have some kind of drop off box or another system where people can quickly drop off their samples and be on their merry way and not have to get their heads bitten off for asking a legit question. I think that aide #2 in the middle desk needs to have better manners and should get better training dealing with the public cordially and effectively. She simply could have just taken the sample, but instead wanted me to wait in line. Yes, I get you are busy but in these times, a little human compassion/understanding would have gone a long way.

Observations from a recent visit to the lab --…read more - lab is located on the ground floor, within 'Burke Mountain Medical Dental Centre'. - large no fee parking lot at rear of building (it is busy). - lab entrance inside is just a few feet straight ahead from parking lot entrance to the building. - three service counters + small reception/waiting area with chairs. Service was prompt, friendly, and very professional. At the time we arrived and registered (about 9:05 am), we were advised our wait time for the procedures to be initiated would be approximately 30 minutes. It turned out to be a touch shorter than that. Our thanks to all for the friendly and fine service provided.

I looked at her name tag so I know the name but I'll save that for a formal complaint to Lifelabs. She calls the patient name twice and what shocked most of us was when she yells the name of the test the patient was there for. Most of us looked at each other with eyebrows raised. Isn't this considered private information? And you yell it out in front of about 20 people? How unprofessional. Additionally, she told me off for not being able to find my veins. I told her they were shy and I've always had problems when getting blood work done because it takes a while to find them. She scolded me when she found out I didn't drink water. I told her the requisition specifically stated fasting and no food or water for 8 hours prior. She went on and on about how Doctor should have told me to drink water blah blah blah. It was such an uncomfortable encounter and I didn't like it. Not a great way to start the morning!

I've been to so many LifeLabs, I've lost count. But BY FAR, this is the absolute best site, hands…read moredown. Here are the reasons: -efficiency. They are appointment-based only. No walk-ins. So you are assured a spot and a time, with minimal waiting. -large and bright office, and impeccably clean. -FREE WI-FI. (This is a real rarity at other lab sites). -more services are offered here than at many other LifeLab sites. Examples: EKG's, cardiac holder monitors, etc. -Professionalism of staff. A female checked me in (I didn't get her name) and although she was somewhat aloof, she was thorough and organized and I had zero wait time. My tech was Ian and he was phenomenal. I have had to get cardiac monitors and EKG's frequently and he was the most thorough when it came to instructions and, wow, they even provide you with a mesh "vest" over the monitor (I never got that before, and it made a huge difference in comfort level and stability). And even upon returning the following day, the staff here remembered me and the whole "disconnect and drop-off" experience was, dare I say, pleasant. My experiences at this site were unlike any I've had at other LifeLabs, and this will be the only site I go to from here on in, for sure.

(Little did I know they kinda have the monopoly on blood draw sites in the city. I recently moved here). So when my doctor prescribed more bloodwork for me, I asked around, and a friend told me that she would ONLY go to this site as it is rarely busy. She also advised me to make an appointment in advance, if possible. I am SO grateful to my friend for these tips! I did make an appointment and was glad I did. This is a small draw site and there are usually only two phlebotomists who work here. At times, one might be on a break or at lunch, leaving only one to work the lab. Therefore, if you see only one person working here, it's because his/her colleague is on break. And it really behooves you to make an appointment. (I see another reviewer complained that she had to wait ten minutes to check in. The patient ahead of her might have had an appointment. Had the reviewer made an appointment, there would be minimal to no wait - as was my experience. I had no wait at all). Whereas my phlebotomist at the Fairview site was harried and poked me twice, causing bruising, and hurt me when drawing my blood (and I only had one tube drawn and I have great veins!), my phlebotomist here at Laurel was great. I had a lot of tubes drawn here and I felt nothing. Plus, bonus! She was friendly and super personable. The icing on the cake? I was able to find a free 2-hour parking spot on a side street nearby. Yeah!

After my last jaunt to the lab on 41st, I was feeling pretty confident in my being less of a woman-child when it comes to needles ability. This lab offers online appointments so for this round, I decided to play it a little closer to home. And have since decided, if I need to be poked again, i'll venture back to the lovely peeps at Oakridge Centre. The online booking is pretty darn awesome. Very straight-forward. They have parking on-site which is an added plus, though the signage for said parking is atrocious so I only realized this fact AFTER plugging the meter. Le sigh. And I will say, the nurse that did my blood work was lovely. She was a little blunt right off the get-go but as soon as I mentioned that I wasn't great with needles and because I had been fasting, she allowed me to lie down and handled me with kid gloves from there on out. I know, I know. It's a strong adult moment for me. Shush. But the over-all experience compared with the 41st branch was definitely lacking. For starters, booking an online appointment doesn't seem to do much for your waiting period. I arrived 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment and waited about 35 minutes before seeing anyone. Including an awkward 10 minutes where I hopped around in front of the reception area trying to get someone's attention. There seem to be only a few people working at any one time and the reception is more then a little confusing as the space is shared with the x-ray clinic. But after walking in, with no appointment, and being in and out within 20 minutes at the last place, I was pretty underwhelmed at the wait. As well, the 41st lab is obviously the newer of the two. This lab isn't nearly as private, in fact, if you aren't a woman-child who gets to lie down, chances are you're going to watch the person next to you get blood drawn. Which makes me squirmish just thinking about it. And there are no fancy, puffy chairs waiting for you at this place... nope. You're sticking your arm on a slab of wood to get that blood pumped out of you. And it will NOT be at the comfortable angle. When I did lie down, the space was super cluttered with wires and various other things - it was kind of like being in a spare bedroom... but one with scary things including a waste basket that was full of bloody cotton balls. Continuing the experience of squirm. So if (and let's hope I don't have to continue this guru status) but if I have to go get blood work done again, i'll be heading back to 41st and their sassy nurses/puffy chairs/no wait times. Thank you to the nurse who was so lovely with her kid glove handling but no thank you to this facility.
