I hired Sam for a kitchen remodel project and I am very satisfied about the result. He did all the preparation works including patching the walls, extending the floor tiles (older cabinets were laying on the concrete), moving electrical outlets, installing the supports to hang the cabinets. Then he installed the kitchen cabinets: these are quite expensive cabinets made in Italy and I was obviously very vigilant about the installation process. Sam was very patient and collaborative; he listened to all of my concerns and he also asked a lot of questions about how I wanted certain things done to be sure that his work would meet my expectations. I highly recommend Sam and Leypynov General Construction without reservation. We worked with Sam and his colleagues for the remodeling of our bedroom and en-suite bathroom/laundry room in March 2021. Following our initial onsite visit (observing COVID-restrictions) and discussion of our plans - Sam generated a clear and concise statement of work. The statement of work outlined deliverables, timelines, budget and materials. His transparent approach, attention to detail and flexibility regarding the workplan and budget was a breath of fresh air from other contractors we have solicited in the past. Our project included the following 1. New floor installation, 2. Multiple window installation, 3. Interior wall installation, 4. Full bathroom installation (including plumbing, shower installation, tiling), 5. Insulating the walls and Attic, 6. Painting, 7. Installation of new plumbing and 8. Installation of new electrical items to highlight a few items. I hope this gives you a sense of the breath of work Sam and his team conducted. Sam was agile, detail orientated and an expert troubleshooter - which was necessary as our home is almost 100 years old. Prior to the commencement of work - Sam generated clear diagrams to inform new plumbing requirements and diagrams for interior walls, bathroom vanity locations etc., Sam was particular good at communication, he would text me each morning outlining arrival times, trips to home depot, and other general project updates. His utilization of a shared on-line spreadsheet facilitated a detailed outline of work in progress and/or completed. Sam seemed to be knowledgeable about the work he was doing and everything came out well, but he is so rude and unprofessional, he left the kitchen and living room a mess. There was sawdust on the tv, the new PlayStation, the counters, food, and cooking utensils. I've worked with contractors before and they have put up plastic to keep their work space clean and he didn't. On his last day, I asked him to please clean up after himself and he was so mad and just left without showing me the finished project and left the kitchen a mess. He also wanted to be paid before he completed the project. He should have disclosed that clearly in his contract but he didn't. Sam reconstructed my bathroom after a significant water leak incident. I reached out to Sam and asked if he could quote me on my bathroom reconstruction. It was for an installation for a new bathtub, partial shower tiles, vanity, mirror, light fixtures, toilet, and to install new drywall that wrapped around my bathroom and a bit of my hardwood flooring before entering the bathroom. I kid you not. Sam had a complete, detailed invoice within two hours while other companies that I reached out to took 48 hours or longer to reply with an entire invoice. I should also mention that out of the five companies that I reached out to, and Sam had the best pricing. Easiest five-star review ever. Sam and team completely gutted and renovated our 1920's kitchen into a beautiful, functional space that kept with our home aesthetic. Sam was timely, responsive, reasonably priced, and a true collaborative partner in our vision. Due to global supply chain shortages we had already picked out and procured our appliances, IKEA SEKTION cabinets, and tile. I then found out that many San Diego kitchen remodelers absolutely refused to work with anything but their pricy "custom" cabinetry, which is so lame! Sam had no complaints and actually complemented us on our decision (and IKEA's craftsmanship). Right off the bat i knew this was someone we wanted to work with. In total, Sam and team demo'ed the existing cabinetry, tile, and plumbing (including proper handling of lead-based paints and tile), drywalled, prepped and paint-matched, assembled and installed cabinetry, installed dishwasher and garbage disposal, sink, countertops, and hand-laid tile. It was a big undertaking but Sam was very responsive and accurate with all of his timelines and cost estimates. We especially appreciated Sam's eye for detail. We had a specific vision for the design, but as non-professionals we clearly missed a few things here and there. Sam caught everything and didn't get frustrated with any of our mistakes. He also had a lot of great suggestions where things could be done better, and we really appreciated his feedback and help. We needed our kitchen exhaust fan replaced with a new exhaust hood. Note: I did not have a chance to use Sam for any jobs, but I did want to leave a rating for his customer service. I contacted him exactly one month ago with a list of odd jobs around the house and asked for an estimate. He responded within 1 day letting him know he'll get the estimate to me the following day, but then ended up surprising me with the estimate that same day. Unfortunately, I dragged my feet and didn't respond until a month later when his job flow had increased. Even when I reached back to ask when he was available, he still responded within 1 day to tell me he couldn't take it (in a short response--but I still appreciated the communication back!).
