This rating should be more of a 4.5/5. Took the 0.5 off for the con listed below. All in all, I was very happy with the work and the turnaround time and would recommend them to friends/family. Pros: -Harry, the project manager, is VERY responsive, answering texts and suggesting materials whenever you have questions. He really does put you at ease. -Timelines: one of the biggest fears with renovations is how long it takes to get done and when problems cause delays. Harry and crew were very honest about the timeline for completion, who was doing what when, etc. They finished at exactly their quoted 3 week target date. -If there were any issues as mentioned in the cons section, they were immediately rectified and without argument. -They're cost effective and will do add-on projects for a reasonable price. Cons: -Some of the crew working on the project were a little less experienced than others. In my instance, the grout for one bathroom was inconsistent in color, so they had to spend a half day to redo it. You can tell they have other projects planned throughout the week, so they don't spend all their time focused on your house. I love my 100 year-old Colonial Spanish home in North Park but it came with one major flaw - it was constructed with one of the smallest and darkest kitchens that I have ever seen. Tacky tiles, weird walls and strange dimensions made this remodel feel unsurmountable and impossible to fix. Freedom Renovation is the company for you. The kitchen is the heart of the home and from day one, Allen made me feel like this project was just as important to him, as it was for me. Allen gently guides you through the entire process in a stress-free way. His company does it all. They have a beautiful selection of affordable countertops, cabinets and flooring and an amazing designer that will give you three dimensional renderings of all the unthinkable possibilities that await you. Attention to detail is extremely important to me so I am forever grateful for the hard-working team that Allen sent to my house. Unlike other companies that send a revolving door of different workers, Freedom Renovation has a dedicated crew just for you. Juan was simply the perfect blend of craftsman, problem-solver and artist. Despite the huge list of impossible quirks and challenges that this old house presented, he was able to conquer them all. And at every step, there was Allen checking in with multiple home visits and regular texts. Freedom Renovation kept all their promises and delivered a top to bottom renovation that truly exceed what I had thought was even possible. They made the space look twice its size with new lighting, contemporary white cabinets and a gorgeous countertop that is ready for creating new memories. My husband and I did a 1.5-bathroom renovation with Freedom Renovation and we couldn't be happier with the results. Out of the 3 contracting companies that I received a quote from, not only was FR the lowest but they had stellar reviews on Yelp. It was also important for me that the company was a trustworthy one as I have heard too many horror stories of contractors bailing out on their clients after the full payment has been made or how contractors would not return after a job was done to fix any mistakes that were found. After meeting with Harry and Allen, they came off very knowledgeable and professional so we felt confident moving forward with them. They gave us a clear outline of what materials to buy and what materials they would provide. We received an estimated project duration of 1 month, but to our surprise, they actually finished 2 weeks in! I was shocked. Apparently it was bc we were such "good clients" that prepared everything we needed in advance and correctly? Haha, go figure. Although we were not physically present in the house for most of the renovation process, Harry would frequently text me updates on the project. I had very little to worry about bc the team worked so efficiently and cleaned up pretty nicely afterwards. When we noticed a few things that needed correcting (just a few minor paint touch-up's, installing a couple missing door stoppers, etc), Harry was responsive and attentive to my needs, even though the full payment had been made and our project was technically completed. I really appreciated that they didn't leave us in the dust just bc they got their money. No, they actually care about their clients and making sure they are happy with the results. As you will notice from the attached "before and after" photos, the difference is night and day. I really didn't think that a (successful) bathroom upgrade could affect my mood like this, but I am in awe every time I use the shower or flush the toilet, LOL. My biggest regret is that I didn't do this renovation sooner bc it has been quite a game-changer in my everyday life. After speaking with several potential contractors, I ended up choosing Freedom Renovation for full bathroom remodel (shower, vanity, flooring, etc). Their schedule seemed to work best with my schedule, and of all the different construction managers we spoke to, Allen was the best at offering design/construction advice, though to be fair please don't expect him to be a full-on interior designer. Allen's team started and finished the project on time, within 2 weeks, and the end product looks really good. In my experience, nothing goes perfectly in a home remodel project, so the question is how receptive the manager is to your concerns and I found Allen to be very responsive. When we brought up any quality concerns to Allen, he took action to see how he could address them. When there were minor miscommunication issues, things were always resolved fairly. I waited a bit to write my review, in order to make sure everything is still working several weeks later, and I can say that everything in my remodeled bathroom is working out great. read more

Update: 2/18/2022 We ended up having a couple of issues with our blue cabinet panels on the back side of our island, where they were dented and damaged during the installation process. One of the installers has used a drill and crushed the cabinet edge when installing the under cabinet outlet strip. Allen the PM had ordered new panels which would replace the damaged panels. The team returned to replace the damaged panels with new ones and unfortunately in the process split the seams on the left side of our island countertop and waterfall. I honestly wish they didn't come back. We've had 3 return visits since the initial work was completed and the quality of work has diminished significantly with each visit, creating more damage and need for additional repairs in the process. It's clear the team has checked out now that this job is finished in their book and they have moved onto the next thing, but it's really disappointing, especially considering the effort and quality of work that was initially put into this job. We have paid in excess of $50,000 to have our kitchen remodeled, so understandably expect better. I've reached out to Allen numerous times in recent weeks to share my concerns about the remaining issues, but have received little in the way of empathy and have basically been told its part of the job and these things happen, nothing is perfect etc. At the end of the day, when you pay as much money as we did for a kitchen renovation, you expect quality, perhaps not perfection, as few things are perfect, but these are obvious issues that could've been avoided with some patience and care from the team. It's disappointing that we are left to deal with the consequences and are left with so many issues as a result of someone else's errors. After our initial interactions with Allen and the Freedom team, we really had high hopes of working with them again for future remodeling projects e.g. bathrooms etc. but this has left a sour taste in our mouths and we'll be looking at alternative contractors for any future projects. read more

We had Freedom Renovation remodel our kids bathroom. Unfortunately, the workmanship was average at best. Their tile setter used so much thinset on the subfloor that when we put new flooring down, the contractor had to have a custom transition piece made because the transition was so high. I even asked the tile setter why he used so much thinset but he couldn't understand me because he didn't speak English. Other items were the faucet handles were installed backwards, the groutlines on the tile floor and the shower walls had missing grout all over. Lastly, the paint job wasn't good either. We had our master bathroom done by another contractor and the idea was to give another contractor a try before our major kitchen remodel. Needless to say, I will not be calling Freedom Renovation for our kitchen remodel. We will stick with Lumina Builders. read more

They did a fantastic job again this time around, maybe even more impressive than the bathroom project we did with them a couple years ago! This time, we did some updates to our master bathroom, as well as adding recessed lighting to our kitchen ceiling, and converting a living room sliding glass door to a window. Allen and his team were incredibly organized and professional from beginning to end. Any concerns that I had along the way were addressed and clarified, I received frequent updates on the progress, and the team struck a nice balance of moving quickly without sacrificing quality. Allen and his team worked tirelessly to get our kitchen done in less than 2 weeks! This is something you won't find with every company. He made me feel like a VIP. We are do-it-yourselfers who had done a lot of demo prior to the project. In doing some work ourselves, we created a few messes for Allen's team. As we were looking for General Contractors to remodel our kitchen we interviewed maybe 6 different companies. 5 out of the 6 did not listen to our goal of maximizing the result with a limited budget. 5 out of the 6 said we had to completely tear down all the cabinets, islands, etc. to accomplish our goal and spend greater than $100K. The only one that said they could work with us without thinking of their bottom line was Allen. What was more impressive was he was able to give me a pretty accurate quote within the first visit whereas I had to wait a week or more to get quotes from the others. I love the "No Games" approach by Allen. Top notch Project Manager and he listens, straight forward, transparent communication, great suggestions/recommendations, very reliable and responds fast! I can be a pain to deal with as I ask a lot of questions, etc. but he never flinched. As for Allen's team....Juan was the main PM lead and he was amazing. Great attitude, hard worker and great personality. His team was phenomenal and these guys work fast yet at a very high quality! They probably got really tired of all my questions and requests, but they always listened but weren't afraid to push back. Love it! We also had the painter team come in and do a TREMENDOUS job refinishing and painting our existing cabinets in our kitchen and master bath. A LOT of work. These guys are true pros and they made sure everything was protected and cleaned up after the job was done. Great team, great attitude, worked until 8pm one night because they wanted to get the work done for us. Amazing. The texture guy to fix some patch work from the electrical team was excellent. I do have to say that he had to come fix the job of the painting company as they did a horrendous job. Fantastic work, great guy. I am probably leaving someone on his team out but thank you to everyone. The showroom is impressive and made us feel like this is a great company. We spent a lot of money on this and never once did I feel like we were getting ripped off. This is my longest Yelp review ever because I truly can say that if you are considering doing ANY renovation project that you would be hard pressed to find a better team and company than Freedom Renovation. I repeat, in three weeks! Our expected time of completion was two months, but they managed to cut that time in half, even during labor and supply shortages in the US. When we spoke to Allen's crew during construction, everyone including the electrician, floor installers, etc. were all gracious, respectful, and professional. On the final day of construction, Allen visited our condo and assisted his crew to inspect and clean all of the finishes of the project. Coincidentally, we noticed that two outlets did not work and the outlet box for our microwave wasn't installed into the wall. We called him and he had his crew come back and fix everything. After meeting with several contractor companies, the decision to work with Allen and his team at Freedom Renovation couldn't have been more easily made. It was clear from the in-home estimate that Allen had the experience and "know-how" to confidently transform our limited condo kitchen into a gorgeously modern and functional space without any pricey or complicated suggestions. His estimate was fairly priced with a more than reasonable timeline (of 3 weeks), and his design practical and efficient. I felt like other contractors "talked the talk" and were really great at wooing us with their charm, but Allen's no-nonsense approach, telling us what was possible and helping us to understand why was the way to go and actually "walking to the walk". Even prior to the start of the project, he was quick to obtain and supply information we needed to have our HOA approve the flooring changes. He also was available to consult on the correct items, measurements, etc. of items we needed to order from our end for the project. Allen is an awesome project manager who follows up on the progress. The tile team was always on time, polite, and took meticulous detail to ensure a perfect installation. What can I add that hasn't been written already? They did a good job of planning of our complete top to bottom kitchen remodel. They don't start work until all the parts are ready to install. IOW, they would never start a job and then have to delay it because they couldn't get a hold of something. They even checked that the stuff I was to buy would be received on time. This review is a bit long, so let me give you the bottom line first: Allen and his team at Freedom Renovation provided great service at remarkable speed. Definitely a 5 star effort and I recommend Freedom Renovation with 100% confidence. Project: My wife and I moved to a new home that needed updating throughout. We were looking to renovate the kitchen, master bath, and laundry room. Additionally, we wanted to replace all of the flooring in the 2500 sq ft home. Background: I interviewed and received proposals from six contractors. I rated them on: Ease to work with Yelp reviews Google reviews Buildzone score Stated lead time Design recommendations Website Proposed cabinet quality Craftsmanship Initial ROM pricing 3D modeling of the project I did this first through the interviews and walking each of them through of our home. After narrowing down to two contractors, I called six of their provided references and evaluated the cabinets each proposed. Decision: I had a couple of significant doubts with Allen's proposal, 1) the price was significantly lower than the other proposals, and 2) the project completion time (4 weeks) was nearly 50% less than the next best proposal, a feat I was quite skeptical about. With that said, Allen is direct and transparent in his communication. It was apparent Allen knew what he was talking about as he is not just a sales person or project manager, but is actually engaged in the work on a daily basis. Project prep: Allen insisted, that for him to make his time commitments, we would need to have everything we were responsible for (selection of cabinets, counter tops, flooring and paint colors, as well as the purchase of any new appliances, faucets, and cabinet hardware) before the start date of the project. Project start: Everything was in place and the project started with an estimated completion date 30 days later (yeah, right!) From day one to the end there was not a day when there were fewer than two people working the whole day. Most days, there were 5-8 people on the job. Within two days, all the flooring (50% tile and 50% laminate flooring) was removed and preparation for new flooring (leveling) completed. By day 5, the kitchen, two baths (including a shower and a built in tub), and the laundry room were gutted, kitchen soffits removed, gas and electrical lines rerouted. Project flexibility: It is when things do not go smooth that one can test the real character and service of a contractor. We had a couple of bumps in the road, as every project does. There were a couple of miscommuications in the project in which we were not happy with how something turned out. Although we both acknowledged our parts in the misunderstandings, Allen always took responsibility to fix it. I cannot say enough about Allen, and his team's, dedication to making sure we were 100% happy with the work and the finished product. This is not easily accomplished with my wife and I. My wife has very keen eye for detail and no shyness about sharing her exceptionally high expectations of quality. And while I pale in light of her perfectionism, I am a Quality Manager and have relatively high expectations myself. Project completion: In an attempt to throw Allen off of his game and miss his completion date :), I asked him to add to the project crown molding in most of the house. I also added window trim in the dining, family, and living rooms. In a last ditch effort I asked Allen to replace door trim on several doors that had been beat up over the years. Even at that, Allen's team wrapped up their work in 3 1/2 weeks! I cannot speak more highly of Allen and his team. This should probably be Two 5 star reviews as we've used Freedom (Allen) for two different jobs now - so the fact that I went back says a lot immediately. I've also referred them to others who have home improvement needs. The first job was a complete rebuild of our downstairs following a flood. The work was superb, on time, and within budget. No surprises. In fact, he finished a week earlier than the original plan. Cabinets, quartz counters, fireplace, bathroom, kitchen, and flooring - amazing work. We did a guest bathroom renovation with Freedom Renovation and we are very happy with the results. Harry did a great job communicating and organizing the project. He made sure that we had all the information we need, including material requirements, pricing, and timeline. He answered all of our questions very patiently, which I found very valuable and reliable. Their price was reasonable and the quality was great. They would fix issues we brought up during the process. One example: At first we were not happy with the custom support of our vanity, which was a patch fix as they found out the wall had no stud for weight support. We showed the patch fix to Harry and he immediately agreed this was not acceptable. The next day they redid the custom support which now blends well into the whole vanity design.
