I have posted many pictures with captions. Highly suggest reviewing them. All of the below are my opinions based on work performed at my residence. DO. NOT. HIRE. THIS. MAN. OR. COMPANY. He has basically destroyed my confidence in my home. I am currently in the process of gathering estimates to correct 10s of thousands of dollars of poor workmanship that does not follow accepted trade practices. Had a window consultant, a licenced glazing and general building contractor out to look at the windows. Result? All windows need pulled out, framing fixed, and reinstalled correctly. SJB also installed a window in my son's bedroom that violates fire egress code. The window only opens 18". Minimum is 20". So I need a new window there now. I have told Steve about the windows. He is ignoring me. Steve's only response to my concerns was to ask for more money, for me to sign a gag order so that I cannot review him, and to exempt him from any liability. Not. a. chance. I have attached pictures of Steve's attempt to ask me for more money and to relinquish all of my rights. Is this why I have posted the first bad review? Have others signed their rights away to make Steve go away? Not me. Steve claims I am grading "unfinished work". Tile, floors, and windows are straightened out later at the end of project? Right. So he was going to pull baseboards off and pull the planks out of the drywall? Then put the baseboards back on? He was going to magically correct the tile work? He was going to correct the window framing with the windows completely installed and all finishes complete? Makes sense. If you are reading this and had SJB do any work at your home in the past, I HIGHLY recommend inspecting the work. Also - often he said he is doing work for "free" or "part of the project". This isnt my first home, nor the first time I have used many contractors before. But the worst experience before the job even started. I called Steve the second day I had a house leak to patch up drywall and renovate the upstair bathrooms. Steve showed up the about ten days because he was busy with his schedule and water mitigation was just finished. I asked Steve to give me two separate estimates; first for the bathroom with the leak, needed the pave new tiles, dry wall and the downstair ceiling drywall. Second, for the other bathroom I wanted to renovate. I explained that first bathroom will be covered by insurance and secondary will be paid by me. He noted. I waited approximately about a week for the quote, no response. So I called multiple times and texted him for 3 days. He said he was busy and he is working on the estimate. Finally he got the estimate, and it was done incorrectly because all the items and labor costs weren't itemized as I requested. Also, he added the second bathroom into the estimate which i also requested not to add all together. I told Steve that you need to revise this estimate, because insurance co. isnt accepting this form. Another week went by, and i havent received anything. All the sudden, Steve texted me if i have decided to use another contractor, i replied not yet, and I'm waiting on the estimate still. He forwarded me the revised estimate about a day later with second bathroom in the estimate. At the point, I've just given up. Basically, he left me hanging, and I have no master bathroom to use and giant hole in the ceiling. If I would have used another contractor, this would have been completed by today. Obiviously Steve couldnt follow simple instruction. I wouldnt trust my house in his hands either. If you like to wait for one response everyday 4 days, use Steve. Your remodeling will be done in about 6 months. read more

I had work done on my house a few years ago when my house had flooded. My entire flooring/drywall/bathroom. From a recommendation I went with Steve - from my experience and letting their work speak for themselves I will never continue that recommendation to anyone I know looking for house work. If you're searching for someone to pay thousands of dollars to have quality work done on your house, keep looking this is not the company! 2 ft of drywall had to be removed and my entire flooring throughout the house. In some photos attached I've shared some of the crap work they did replacing the drywall and their way of 'replacing' the bottom half of a cabinet that had been cut up. There was always something that prolonged the project and always an excuse as to why something wasn't right or something was too expensive or whatever the case was. Since then I started having issues that I have contacted Steve multiple times about my flooring coming apart and he even stopped by once to check it out and just said it was happening because of how the house was built but others in my neighborhood with the same type of build have this flooring with no issues. His guy who did it just did a half ass job and didn't set it properly - when I had my backyard redone by other workers they took one look at Steve's work and said ya this isn't right. The other workers did the exact same flooring in my laundry room and so far nothing has chipped up like Steve's work. Steve said he would contact me for someone to stop by to patch some of the tile grooves and then never heard from him again. I did let him know that the job he did was totally unacceptable but what else can I do. I paid over $20k for this shit work and will be paying more to another contractor to fix it. I wish I felt great about the new work I paid to have done to my house but it's the complete opposite read more

Steve and his team took our 80-year old home and brought new life to it. The integration from the old into the new is seamless. His knowledge of finished carpentry made all the difference. We had rooms and rooms of molding that couldn't be found anymore. Steve did lots of research for us and we came up with solutions that match so close you wouldn't know they were not built at the same time. We had to stay within the guidelines of the historical society and Steve's knowledge of those guidelines and made our home still look like it was built 80 years ago with upgrades of course. We couldn't have done it without him. Steve did a full house remodel for us and when we've added on porches and awnings he has come back out and made them look they came with the house originally. Steve and his crew did an implacable job in my house. He was first recommended by a very trusted neighbor. And boy, we were pleased. They've added stucco in the entire front of my house after a fast and clean installation of a new customized window that looks just beautiful. The color that Steve recommended for paint over the stucco looks perfect! He also remodeled our laundry room that looks amazing and so much functional. Lastly, we have the most beautiful deck made of Brazilian Ipe and cable rails. I'm so grateful for such careful and clean job. My Grandparents hired SJB to remodel 2 bathrooms in their house at the recommendation of a friend, and they couldn't be happier with the way the bathrooms turned out. Both bathrooms were designed very unique and distinct at the request of my Grandpa and both turned out equally fantastic. When determining who to use for a fully roofed patio addition and re-roof to my house in Santee, I met with 4 different contractors and got bids from all of them. After all the meetings, I definitely like Steve the best. His bid was definitely competative but not the lowest so I asked him if he's match the lowest bid and he happily agreed which made me all the more confident in my decision. All throughout the project he was very communicative, very cognizent of the timeline and very accomidating to all my questions and requests. He was very professional and thorough. We we're looking to remodel our kitchen but we had some concerns about timing and cost. After we went to Home Depot and Lowe's to do our research and got a price range for what we needed, our next step was to find a contractor. We had looked for over 2 months trying to find the right company. The answer was right in front of us (our neighbors house). SJB had remodeled their home a few years back and they quickly recommended them after hearing what we were planning. SJB worked within our budget, understood our vision and stayed on time by giving us feed back daily and working pretty fast. SJB built custom cabinets to fit into our existing space compared to the ready made ones at Lowe's for the same cost if not less. After talking with several other companies we decided to go with Steve because HE was going to do the job not contract it out to other people. He came up with a plan to completely update our 25 year old, outdated kitchen into a beautiful new kitchen.
