We hired CalHomeCo as the general contractor for our 11-unit ADU development in Ocean Beach, and they did an amazing job from start to finish. One of the things that impressed me most was their ability to complete the project on budget. In fact, throughout the project they actively helped us save money by finding more cost-effective products and solutions without sacrificing the quality or overall look of the project. That's something I really appreciated as an owner and developer. Communication was also excellent. We had bi-weekly meetings throughout construction to review the project timeline, discuss progress, and work through any issues or questions that came up. Their entire team was responsive, respectful, and always willing to take the time to answer my questions. Most importantly, the craftsmanship and quality of the finished project were outstanding. Building an 11-unit project has plenty of moving parts and challenges, and CalHomeCo did a great job managing the process and delivering a finished product that we're extremely happy with. I would highly recommend CalHomeCo to anyone looking for a contractor for an ADU project. Great guys, a great team, and an excellent experience overall. read more

A+ experience with CalHomeCo. I did a full gut job renovation and a two story addition at my house in Mission Hills. Steve Poole was the lead on my project and he was amazing. His crew was there everyday and the job came in on schedule. They use an easy to understand app so billing and progress are easily tracked. My house was built in 1930 so we encountered all sorts of problems- they did not use this an excuse to hit me with change orders. Certainly worth sitting down with Brian and the team if you are looking for a builder who can handle any type of project. read more

CalHome is the real deal. Over the course of 8 years i used them 3 times. The quality of work has always been top notch. Every project is completed on time and exactly what i wanted. A special shout out, one of the projects was years ago and i had a small issue come up. Within a week they came out and fixed it. I dont know many companies that would go that extra mile to keep a customer happy. I highly recommend them. read more

CalHomeCo Construction - Kitchen remodel, just one of the many projects - General Contractors Near Me - San Diego, California

Steve Poole and the CalHome team just finished up our 13-month 2nd story add-on and brought our dream home into reality. Throughout the project, Steve was communicative, thorough, and ensured that things were done right. CalHome came in on budget and were the most flexible when it came to negotiating the details of our contract due to us wanting to do a lot of the detail work ourselves. This was a huge project for us and CalHome worked around our schedule, worked with us to resolve problems, and never pushed back on quality issues that we raised. They left us with a beautiful home without a lot of headache. 5 stars! read more

Big Kitchen Remodel I've had the best experience with these guys!!! For the last 6 years my wife and I have tried to renew our 1978 style kitchen. We could never find the time nor the money to do it. We were finally ready for the project, so we took money out of our savings and I got in contact with this company. I'd heard great things about CalHomeCo Construction through a good friend of mine who worked with them in the past. He put me in contact with them and they assured me that they could do the job well, on budget and in a timely manner. Remodeling your kitchen is a very emotional thing. You spend good amount of money and you want and need results. This company is very PROFESSIONAL!!! They have always been on time, they have cleaned up after themselves every day, polite, hard working, etc... Not enough good words to say about everyone who works there. TJ, Grant, Connor, etc... They finished the Kitchen in 4 Weeks, one week ahead of schedule!! They finished yesterday and they want us to move back into our new kitchen and check for little things we might see that need to be adjusted or changed to our liking. The will come back on Monday to install the appliances (they get delivered on Monday) and to work on the finishing touches. I don't mind spending the money in a big project like that when the company you are dealing with treats you like a family member! Really, that is the feeling that we all got from them!! For sure, I will recommend them to all my friends and family. Thank you all for a very smooth and detail oriented project!! Keep up the good work, guys!! From all us us!! THANK YOU!!! read more

Chris, Blake and the CalHomeCo Construction team remain to be our go-to builder for our Residential Remodels, Additions and ADU projects. As an architecture firm, we've been through a saga of unreliable and nightmare builders. They answer their phones, are reliable and communicative as well as incredibly prompt and professional on-site. We HIGHLY recommend using CalHomeCo Construction for your next project as their quality and attention to detail is what's needed to get the job done right, the first time! read more

We were interested in looking for a home in the heart of San Diego but we weren't really sure how competitive we would be with a VA loan. We meet Henish Pulickal through a friend and he was awesome! He was patient with us and very responsive. His team was very friendly and helpful as well. On weekends, when we wanted to just browse through all the open houses available, his team provide all with all the possible listings! After a few bumps in the road, in a very competitive market, we finally found the one! A beautiful remodeled home (see pictures) that is just a few minutes from Mission Valley and Fashion Valley mall with quick access to the 805/163/15. The house was actually remodeled by Blake, who is one of the contractors at CalHome. After some negotiations, Henish came through and we got the house! The beginning of our search to us receiving the keys to our new place all happened in just a little over a month! I would definitely recommend Henish Pulickal and his team at the California Home Company if you want experience, reliability, and quality service! read more

It's been about a year since we passed our final inspection for the Granny Flat that CalHomeCo built for us so I thought it was a good time to give this review. TL;DR: CalHome is an excellent company with very competent and professional people and offers great value for the money. I recommend them for a granny flat/ADU project without reservation. We had our own architect and were close to getting our permit when we started looking around for contractors. We got 3 bids (a process that is rife with its own pitfalls), and ultimately wound up selecting CalHome. Our project was a new build of a 500 sq ft ADU. It included site work, raised foundation, James Hardie siding, metal roof, trenching for utilities, etc. Maybe more complex than some ADUs. I was impressed at the outset by their follow-through, attention to detail, presentation, and price. There was never any pressure. They use an online project tool that has a view for the homeowner that make the process of reviewing the quote and all subsequent project phases much easier. As it turned out, our project got underway right around the same time COVID hit. This was challenging on multiple fronts, especially staffing and supply chain (shortages of insulation, primer, long delays in getting windows manufactured, etc) . Despite all of it, Blake and the team did everything possible to minimize the impact. More than anything else, their responsiveness and communication throughout the process made a tough situation MUCH easier. In the parlance of projects, they do a great job of managing risk. CalHome also has a nice showroom where you can look at wide variety of contractor-provided options for flooring, cabinets, etc. Great value and quality. Of course, you can decide to go with your own selections and pay the difference between those and the allowances in the bid. I think used their options for flooring, cabinets, and countertops. Blake also pointed us great online stores for things like pendant lamps, plumbing fixtures, shower doors, etc. The project turned out GREAT. There were of course bumps along the way, as there are with any complex project, but the difference between good and great, is having a contractor that communicates throughout, helps problem solve, and works to keep the project moving forward. The pandemic caused some schedule slippage, but not as much as it could have. All things considered, our project was on time, within budget, with a superb outcome. A year later, we have had zero issues that require follow-up. I highly recommend CalHomeCo for your granny flat project! read more

Where do I begin!? These guys are the best in the business and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a high-quality contractor. Blake, TJ and the rest of the crew are a pleasure to work with and they made us feel comfortable through the entire process. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and I was very pleased to see that they have the same eye for detail and quality as myself. I would give 6 stars if I could and will recommend The California home company to my friends and family any time. read more

My husband and I decided it was finally time to renovate our kitchen/ living room combo. We interviewed 3 contractors for our project and ended up choosing California Home Company. We chose them for a few reasons: 1. All of their contractors are in house. Other contractors we interviewed were going to have to outsource quite a bit of work and were at the mercy of their subcontractors. 2. Blake served in the military which we feel creates leaders so we were happy to work with him. 3. They were timely with their budget delivery. I didn't have to beg them to receive it on time. Their prices were competitive as well. We didn't quite know what to expect but it was a great experience. We were informed what item we needed to make decisions on and when they needed to be completed by. The communication in a project like this is key and we felt well informed of what was happening as well as timelines. We were warned from friends that we should double whatever they quoted us for completion. I'm happy to report that this was NOT the case. The work was called completed on time as promised. We are so happy we are bidding another project with them and will continue to use them. Thanks Fernando and the crew for being so respectful and doing a great job! read more

Blake and team did a full kitchen and bathroom remodel on my 1943 ranch style house. The final costs came in below estimate, and the whole project took 3.5 weeks. This 5 STAR review is long overdue. Henish and his team at CalHomeCo are true professionals that go above and beyond in everyway. Communication and timeliness was always on point. He has very good energy and has a way of bringing down any stress or anxiety one may have during the selling process. So in about May of 2018 we placed our La Mesa home on the market with another realtor that had no business selling homes. After two weeks and only 3-4 tours I got rid of him and contacted Henish. The next day, Henish was onsite with a staging consultant (at his cost) to help us in making several adjustments such as decluttering, furniture arrangement, as well as some minor painting to lighten up a few of the rooms. Upon completion of these alterations a few days later the house was on the market with tours everyday. After just 2 weeks and 30+ visits we had an offer with Henish quickly closing the deal. Then just last month my sister-in-law asked if I knew of a good relator so I told her to give Henish a call. Once again potential buyers flooded the house over the next week or two with all of Henish's savvy ways to get buyers onsite to tour the home. After multiple offers the home was sold for over-asking price. My sister and brother-in-law had so many good things to say about Henish and were extremely satisfied with the end result. I promise that you will not be disappointed if you decide to use Henish as your realtor. On top of being an excellent realtor he also has a construction company that can help with anything from a simple remodel to a large scale rebuild. read more

My Sotheby's agent recommended The California Home Company to do a renovation on my outdated and tired rental condo before sale. Their representative, Blake Hedrick (no relation) was outstanding in making recommendations on what needed to be done, selection of materials and overall management of the project. They stayed on budget and any change orders were reviewed (there are always surprises in a renovation) before implemented. Could not be more pleased with the entire process and the final outcome. Highly, highly recommend!!!! read more

We had been looking for a move-in ready property for some time but finally settled on a home in a fantastic location but that was badly in need of updating. During our house-hunting we had come across another home that had been renovated by the California Home Company which we loved, so we decided to approach them for our project. We met with CalHomeCo's team to walk them through our vision for the renovation a week prior to the close of our home and within a few days they'd provided us a quote, that was both within our budget and very competitive against the other quotes we received. We had an extremely short timeline for our work, requiring the complete renovation of our five bedroom, three bathroom home, to be completed in six weeks. CalHomeCo was confident they could deliver the project on time. Fast forward six weeks later, including two of which we were out of the country, and Blake, Fernando and the team at CalHomeCo were putting the finishing touches on our property, having completed the project on time and on-budget. Throughout the entire project, Blake and his team were professional, collaborative and communicative. They made the whole process as easy as any project of this size could hope to be and we are extremely happy with the results. Thank you Blake, Fernando and team. I would highly recommend the California Home Company to anyone in San Diego looking for a reliable and professional contractor to take on their renovation project. read more

My husband and I live in Las Vegas, but wanted to buy a place in San Diego, Pacific Beach to be exact. Henish Pulickal was recommended to us from our realtor here in Vegas. We contacted him, and for several days went over our needs and our budget. By the time I drove to San Diego, he had made arrangements for me to see several different places he had found to meet our needs. Henish is extremely knowledgeable about all that is San Diego. I highly recommend him and enjoyed getting to know him. He found us the perfect place. Thank you. read more

So this will be an interesting review of CalHomeCo... My home ended up headed for foreclosure. Long story short, I was in a big, deep mess. I was contacted by Matt from CalHomeCo because he was interested in buying my home, which was being auctioned off in a month or so... When I told him I was trying to keep my home, he politely backed off and wished me well. Fast forward a month. My phone goes off, it's Matt. He tells me my house is still on the auction list and it goes in two days! Mind you, I had paid back my lender the 45K I owed them! Matt found out the lender had not notified the attorney handling the sale!! At the very last moment, Matt talked me through what I needed to do to save my home!! He could have let the sale go through and bought the house at auction, but, instead, he worked to help me SAVE my home!! Now THAT is one good guy!!!! I'm not even a customer of CalHomeCo and yet he helped me. Matt, I cannot thank you enough!!! You're the best person I've ever come in contact with.... Incredible!! I'll be remodeling my precious little house soon and YOU will have my business!!! Thank you again!!! Bottom line - if you want to work with someone honest, hardworking, and truly amazing, call Matt at CalHomeCo!! read more

Everyone at CalHome Co was fantastic - from the first inquiry through the last day of remodel/repair construction. When Blake came out to my home to learn about my project he made a point of offering money-saving suggestions and guided us through the process. After getting several bids (some lower and many higher), I chose CalHome Co based on the strength of their references/reviews and their earnest attempt to have me use my budget to its best effect. The work in remodeling my small bathroom was run efficiently, on-time, and on-budget. These are statements that you rarely hear about home construction and I make them sincerely. I have a kitchen remodel in my future and Blake & the team at Cal Home Co will be my first call. read more

CHC did an excellent job completely remodeling our bathroom and installing a living room skylight. They had many color schemes to select and were great in assisting with what works best. Based on all of the other reviews, I am super disappointed that we did not have a five star experience with this company. I reached out based on a recommendation from another homeowner that had a beautiful remodel done. We are in escrow on 1965 home that needs almost complete updating. We were in a rush to at least get a quote for how much the work would cost so that we could use this info in our negotiation. During the walk through, we got the impression that they were not interested in taking on our project. At the end, we were told it might take a week to get the quote due to other projects. Not ideal when you are in a time sensitive situation, but alright. A week passes and I am the one to reach out again asking for the quote. The next day I get a lame response about how they are unable to meet our timeline due to other contacts that have come in. First of all, I do not believe this to be true or it would have been communicated earlier. They did not even provide a quote in the event that we are willing to work with their time frame - which is totally possible since we are not selling our current home; we are not in a time crunch to get the renovation completed. I am not sure why they did not want to take on our project, why they didn't even try to get us a quote, and why they were super unprofessional with communicating this to us. Buying a house is stressful enough. 0 out of 10. Do not recommend. read more
