I had purchased some glasses from them in September, for some reason I could not see out the glasses, took them back for adjustment, but still couldn't see out of them, on my third visit to them for the same problem, I was seen by Brady who checked my glasses and found that my Rx was not right. Just got my glasses back on Tuesday and still the frame was not right, so back I go to see Brady again. He was so patient and kind and considerate of my problem with my glasses. I was able to get another frame that was more suitable, thanks to Brady's kindness and understanding. If you ever go to this office make sure that you see Brady. He is all about the patients satisfaction with their glasses and he definitely went the extra mile for me. read more

Poor Customer Service, Go Elsewhere Filled out a form online for an appointment a week ago. The website response said I would get a call back to schedule the appointment. Never received a call. My spouse uses Levin, and had an appointment this morning. While he was there in person I asked them to see what was up with my appointment. He came back saying the website goes to corporate, and they said corporate gets back to you when they feel like it. However, they had a slot or two availble if I called this specific number. I called the number, and was told there was nothing available. I stated my spouse had just been there and they said if I called this number they could get me in. Nope, there is nothing. I stated again that my spouse had just been there and they said they had an opening or not. Nope, there is nothing sir. No attempt to check with who held the conversation with my spouse, or whatever. Just Nope, nothing available. I guess they must have a great business that they can treat new customers so dismissively. There are other places to have an eye exam and I guess I will be going to that one. You would think since one member of our family has been a regular customer that they might put some effort into it, but no. I guess someone was in a hurry for a coffee break. The focus of my review is on infection control measures. Of the three employees I saw, only one was wearing a mask properly. When I entered the exam room, I was asked to sit in a chair to the side so I could "see" that they disinfect between patients. However, neither the seat nor the equipment (that goes on your face) were disinfected properly. Neither were thoroughly wiped with large sections being missed entirely and what was wiped, was not wiped long enough to effectively disinfect. When I stated I that I was uncomfortable, he dismissed my attempt to explain why and noted he used a Lysol wipe. At that point, I decided to not proceed with the exam. He was very nice about it; he did not charge me and stated they will notify my insurance that the exam was not completed so I am still able to get my exam elsewhere. Aside from infection control, the practice and shop seem fine. One employee was very helpful with another customer when picking out glasses. There were a variety of brands with a wide range of prices. Parking is easy which is always a plus for me. read more

Nice doctors, but poor customer service and support staff. The support staff does not seem to care, no matter if you call the scheduling center or if are you talking in person to the front staff. I had a new onset of floaters in one of my eyes, and since this has never happened before, I was rather concerned. The person at the appointment call center did not care, and a timely urgent appointment was not available, they gave me an appointment two weeks later. Once I finally go to that appointment at the Belvedere Square office, where are usually go, I was told that my appointment is actually in Pikesville, and they could not accommodate me today in the Belvedere Square even though I have been waiting for two weeks for this rather urgent appointment in my opinion [still with very notable floaters in my right eye]. The registration lady looked at me with a completely uninterested face. When I immediately called the Pikesville office, to inform them that I was running late and if I could still be seen, I was first sent to the voicemail that told me the office is closed. When I called again someone picked up but I was put on a long hold, during which I decided that this is not the ophthalmologist I will go to anymore. I called Roland Park eye care on Coldspring Lane, we a friendly person picked up, very willing to accommodate me and acknowledging my eye concern, and I had an appointment for two days later on a Saturday. Working in corporate medicine myself, I'm getting so tired of so nonchalant and non-caring support staff who are entirely non-suited for medical offices [but apparently cheap to hire]. They are very damaging to any medical office's image. I will stay with smaller offices. Lesson learned. read more

I took three kids in for routine eye exams at the Belvedere Square location. Optometrist Dr. Howard Levin was excellent and very good-natured with all three boys (ages 11, 15 and 16). He did not attempt to persuade us to get any unneeded eyeglasses. With the youngest boy, he spotted a serious reading problem that had not been diagnosed or suspected, before, and is correctable with proper eyeglasses. The cost of the eyeglasses will be 100% covered by insurance. The exams were conducted with admirable efficiency. The whole experience was very pleasant. read more

I had a mixed experience with Levin Eyecare. The staff at the office during my appointment were great, very friendly. I saw Dr. Seyboth for an eye exam and contact lens fitting, and he was great - had an excellent bedside manner and took his time explaining things to me. The appointment ran on time and the office was professional, neat, and clean. The downside came afterwards, for three reasons: 1) I was charged $35 for my contact lens fitting when I expected to be charged $10. My insurance requires me to cover any amount over $40 for a contact lens fitting. Over the phone, I was told that the total cost of the contact lens fitting was $50 (and therefore told explicitly that I would be responsible for $10 for the fitting). I was actually charged $35, and when I called back later to ask why, they told me that the contact lens fitting was $75 (making my responsibility $35). When I inquired about the discrepancy, they told me that I was probably told the $50 amount "before they pulled my vision benefits" because the insurance dictates what they charge which sounded... suspicious, especially because the person I spoke to before the exam was in fact looking at my vision benefits. I do not think it is accept to charge customers differently based on what the business feels they can extract from the customer's insurance, and in general felt that there was a bait and switch on the cost of the exam. 2) Sketchy practices regarding providing me my prescription. Maryland law requires eye doctors to automatically provide patients with a copy of their contacts/glasses prescription, regardless of whether the patient requests it. I initially walked out without mine, had to go back in and request that it be printed, and it wasn't clear they would have given it to me unless I had explicitly asked for it. (The reason for the explicit regulation of this is that if a doctor doesn't give you a paper copy of your prescription, they can trap you into having to order glasses/contacts from them instead of from another business.) 3) Sketchy practices regarding prescription expiration dates. Maryland law also requires glasses and contact lens prescriptions to be valid for 2 years from the date of the script, unless there is a clinical reason as to why the expiration period should be shorter. Both of my prescriptions were dated to expire in one year. I have no issues with my eyes (other than the need for vision correction), and they are not getting worse each year, so there is no clinical reason why my script shouldn't have been for the full two years. They only corrected this for me after I made two phone calls and spoke to three separate people, each of whom initially told me that "glasses prescriptions are for two years, contact lens prescriptions are for one year" despite the fact that 1) both prescriptions I received were for one year only and 2) both kinds of scripts are supposed to be for two years in Maryland. They eventually relented and told me I was right, but it definitely seemed like it was their practice to operate outside of Maryland law in this respect. I also think most people wouldn't know this and would end up back at Levin Eyecare in a year, sooner than clinically and legally required, thus bringing more business back to their practice. So, while the doctor himself was great, the business operates in some sketchy ways that make me concerned about their compliance with other laws and regulations that protect consumers. I would not return and would not recommend to others, which is unfortunate, because Dr. Seyboth really was great. read more

I love Levin eye care. The doctors I've experienced are very thorough, kind, and explain things well. They're always making sure you understand everything discussed. The staff in the front are also extremely helpful. The girl at the front desk is super sweet and friendly, and a fashionista that will help you pick a style that looks amazing for your face! And Brady, who also helps with the glasses process is fantastic. He understands glasses and insurance very well and is always friendly and smiling and knows how to make you laugh! Mr.Levin is absolutely wonderful and such a cool guy. I would highly recommend going to this location vs the katzen eye group location on York rd. They had me waiting for an hour! This place has more of a homey feel and you get taken care of right away. I had not found a comfortable brand of lens for years and today mr.levin fitted me with a comfortable brand. They seem to be working out the kinks at this location. Levin has been around for a while in their other locations and I'd heard good things, so I was happy to hear they were opening a new location just up the street from where I live. The eye dr. I've seen seems disorganized. I saw him twice (once for the initial appt. and once for the contact lens fitting). Both times, he didn't seem to know what was going on. The first time I saw him, he was making remarks about how the previous doctor who'd been there before him didn't have the machines properly aligned, etc. The second time I saw him, he arrived 15 minutes late. I'd made my appt. for 9 am on the previous Sat. for a Monday morning appt. He said he checked at end of day Saturday, but did not see a 9 am appt. listed; only a 9:40 appt. Miscommunication on their part, considering I rushed to get there by 9 am. I wear gas permeable contacts, which are a little more unusual than regular contacts. They are a little harder to get sized for and apparently this location did not have the one machine needed for that. They could take the initial measurements but not the other. So, I had to go to their Harford Rd. (Parkville) location to take care of that. Really inconvenient, but I did it. I wanted to avoid going to that location in the first place, because it's on the other side of town from where I live and I am never over that way. My contacts were ordered on 4/25 but didn't come in until 5/7 (about a 9 day wait). When I called to ask about the status, they weren't sure if the order had even been placed? Thanfully, another call from them proved otherwise. It sounded like the notes hadn't been updated in their computer. Overall, they are nice enough there, but it wasn't as positive of an experience as I would have liked. I'd been to Katzen Eye Group for several years and they were OK, but it was just so incredibly busy there and you never really saw the same doctor twice. I was hoping by going to a smaller place that I'd have a better experience than I did. read more

They have an old fashioned customer service system. If you cannot get in touch with your store representative, you can't get anyone to help. The phone receptionists won't help and they won't escalate the issue to address the problem. I had a good sales rep but the procedures were out of date. read more

Extremely pleased with the attention and care I received at Levin Eye Care. I had been struggling for years to read legal documents and small print with my old glasses. Do not get your glasses from Levin's Eye Care at any cost. The optometrist I'd visited for my eye exam was disorderly and careless with her recommendations, forcing me to find a new optometrist for my routine check-ups at Katzen Eye Group which was a significant improvement. Picking out a pair of glasses was simple before, but has become a nightmare - when my glasses broke in August and I needed an urgent fix, I reached out to Levin's Eye Care with my prescription from an optometrist at another site, and it took them four weeks to have my new pair in, with me calling after the second week only for them to tell me they never got my prescription and to send it to over them again. The front desk lady was rude and unresponsive and her inflexibility forced me to call back again and again. The frames are also cheap and poorly made, and there is a very limited selection of lens coatings. I recommend you save yourself the hassle altogether and get yourself a pair of glasses online after your eye exam - I just bought a photochromic, water-resistant pair off a site called EyeBuyDirect and I am incredibly happy with my purchase. read more

My wife called to make an appointment for me to get a second opinion on a potential case of conjunctivitis. The receptionist told her they could see me that afternoon. When I arrived I was immediately told by the receptionist not to touch anything. I understand that conjunctivitis is contagious, but I wasn't about to start trying on frames. I was then told by the receptionist that the cost for the visit would be $65 because it was an "emergency". When I questioned her about this she said that it was because it would not be covered under my vision insurance as a routine visit. I have health insurance, but was told that they would not process it. I hesitated to spend $65 out of pocket because I have both health and vision insurance. The receptionist asked me to wait while she went to speak with the doctor. She came back and suggested that I visit another branch of Levin Eyecare. She called their Parkville location and was told that they didn't have any doctors on staff that day. I thanked her for her time and left. It seemed obvious from the moment I walked in the door that they had no interest in examining my eye. If that was the case, they could have given that information over the phone rather than wasting my time. Additionally, if they only want to do routine eye exams and sell glasses at this location then they should make that clear to potential patients that have other issues they would like an optometrist to look at. read more

This place was amazing! I was able to make my appointment online which was really convenient. I was seen on time (which never happens anymore) and the doctor was wonderful. She took her time to explain everything before she did it then explained why she was doing it. I have never been so informed. They have so many designer frames its hard to pick out just one. The person who does the glasses was so patient helping me. I never felt rushed or like I was being taken advantage of. You won't regret coming here! They treat you like family which is why I love smaller businesses. read more

I went to Levin Eyecare in Belvedere Square Market today. It was my first appointment with this practice and I will not be returning. There were a number of odd things the doctor did and said that seemed very different from my other doctor experiences. For example, she did not introduce herself to me so I never got her name, she criticized the advice of my previous doctors, and she said I needed to come back next week for a follow-up appointment (this was an annual exam and I did not understand the need for a second appointment). None of these issues were too concerning until, towards the end of my appointment, she asked me to leave the exam room to sit in the waiting room so she could see her next appointment and then would finish with me after that. Confused, I asked for clarification and she explained that I had taken so much time at the beginning of the appointment and she did not have time to finish with me until after the next patient was seen. To be clear, at the beginning of the appointment I spoke for fewer than 5 minutes about my history with contacts and my hopes that she could help solve a problem I had been having. I left the exam room and this is when the second issue arose. The person at the front desk said I owed $75. I made sure she remembered that I had insurance because I have never paid for an exam before with my eye insurance policy. She explained that while my exam was was covered the "contact fitting" was not. To ensure I felt like they had done their due diligence we called the insurance company on speaker phone. The agent explained that a contact fitting was not covered under my insurance. She went on to explain that I had likely not seen this charge before because most eye doctors do not submit a separate bill code to fit contacts. I was disappointment by this experience today and will not be able to recommend Levin Eyecare to anyone. read more
